Video of Big Ten football parents protesting outside of conference HQ
Of course, they are shouting "Let us play!" ... they might have some eligibility left.

Technically, to be fair, these old men are yelling at an empty building.
August 21st, 2020 at 4:09 PM ^
Wade tweeted only 5 OSU families and 2 Iowa showed up.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:26 PM ^
Well, that was an underwhelming number of protesters. I particularly loved the vulgarity right before the chant.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:13 PM ^
Vulgarity? Thought he said "start that chant right now"? But my hearing sucks.
August 22nd, 2020 at 8:38 AM ^
You may be right...crappy laptop speakers here.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:28 PM ^
It looks like there’s more reporters than parents there.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:51 PM ^
and a few "tudors". . .

Is Henry the VIII out there axe-ing the commish some tough questions?
August 21st, 2020 at 12:33 PM ^
I heard Randy Wade’s interview on Sirius and he made the point that they weren’t trying to get fall football, but a discussion with Warren because they don’t believe the B1G is being genuine when they say they are still looking at winter or spring.
He also said something that really stood out to me, which was that he never thought recruits would need to look at the conference when making their school decision, but that may now need to be a factor.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:50 PM ^
He just led them in a chant of "let them play." He's full of shit.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:40 PM ^
Imagine being so dumb that you think "let them play" conflicts even a little with "[he doesn't] believe the B1G is being genuine when they say they are still looking at winter or spring."
August 21st, 2020 at 1:46 PM ^
The "let them play" movement is about playing football in the fall. Wade is likely hedging his bets here so that he doesn't seem like someone focused exclusively on his son getting some more game tape for scouts, but if he actually cared about the B1G conference's seriousness about pursuing a winter or spring season he wouldn't need to hold a poorly-attended rally (I assume after rescheduling his flight) in what appears to be a mall parking lot.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:49 PM ^
Imagine being so dumb that you think a conference is purposefully sabotaging itself and its members out of hundreds of millions of dollars because they are too lazy or close-minded to be looking at all possible safe scenarios to pull off a season.
August 21st, 2020 at 3:00 PM ^
100% this. You may disagree with the decision, but what possible reason could it have been done other than the safety of players, coaches, staffers, fans, etc. Nobody at the Big Ten offices is saying "let's throw hundreds of millions of dollars down the tubes to fuck over the Wades."
August 21st, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
There's not a chance in hell that Wade would play in the winter/spring. He's just bitter that S. Wade didn't turn pro after last year and isn't drawing an NFL paycheck right now...all for nothing. Sometimes, life just sucks.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
FWIW.. Shaun Wade played slot corner all of last year, but he is widely projected to be an outside corner in the NFL. Yeah.. he's got a 1-3 round grade right now, but it has been presumed that proving his ability on the outside would have made him a near first round lock.
I'm not going to go look up CB contract comparisons between 1st and 3rd rounders, but it's safe to say the B1G season cancellation has possibly cost him quite a bit of money. His Dad's pissed. Seems like a natural reaction when your kid gets shafted.
August 21st, 2020 at 2:07 PM ^
Or it saved him some money. All the players expected to go in the draft that won't be playing are in the same boat. Could go either way for them.
August 21st, 2020 at 2:34 PM ^
All the players expected to go early in the draft that won't be playing are definitely NOT in the same boat as players in the SEC or ACC or Big 12 who will have a full year of game tape on their Big 10/Pac 10 peers. Spring football is also very unlikely considering the competitive disadvantage the Big 10/Pac 10 programs would be in for the Fall 2021 season.
In this case, for the players and parents of football players, the process matters. Randy Wade deserves, at the very least, more transparency than has been provided. The UM football team deserved at least an appearance from Schlissel. I don't understand the mocking tone of 80% of this blog directed at parents who just want answers for their kids.
August 21st, 2020 at 3:06 PM ^
It's not "parents who just want answers for their kids" as they have been given answers. It is parents who are demanding a different answer than the one they have been given.
August 21st, 2020 at 4:35 PM ^
Does the field hockey team deserve an appearance from Schlissel?
Do the staff deserve an appearance from Schlissel?
Do faculty deserve an appearance from Schlissel?
GSI's? Work study students? Lecturers?
Or is the football team just entitled?
August 21st, 2020 at 4:43 PM ^
Reading comprehension is your friend. "All the players that won't be playing"...
August 21st, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
Plus with no more games for Wade before turning pro, the bags are empty.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:37 PM ^
Those are parents who are getting a $100,000+ benefit for their kids playing a game at college. And now they are getting it for their kids not playing a game.
As a parent whose kid lost their grad assistantship due to COVID budget cuts, imparting a $41,000 burden onto my family, I give the whiners in the video -73 FUCKS of care.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:53 PM ^
Exactly - this whole situation is bad for everyone in education yet the football players are probably in the safest financial position of anyone. They will not lose their scholarships, room, board, stipends (and it looks as though their eligibility) and can continue to take classes and performing physical training and other professional development activities. The NFL bound guys might have to postpone their plans by a year (or leave early), but otherwise life will continue.
Meanwhile, many thousands of people in this field (greater education, not just college athletics) are losing jobs, hours, benefits and more to this economy crisis.
Aside from the cumulative health risks of catching covid (which is a good reason to not play), I am not worried about the players.

I have seen larger crowds at the Annual North American Man/Boy Love Association Conference...
EDIT: I naturally meant to write "seen PICTURES OF larger crowds"...

As I parent of 3, I can definitely say there is nothing more annoying than a parent.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:10 PM ^
I need to go to a competitive spelling b to find out if its just sports or if it's all forms of competition. Having a daughter who dances I can tell you those parents rival baseball dads.
August 21st, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
Softball parents are like Dance Moms, the ones on the TV show. Don't know what dance parents are like in real life, but I would assume all parents with competitive children are the same. I have a friend who has an actor son and a math genius son who competes in all sorts of state math competitions. She's the same way with both. I'm a baseball mom and former softball mom. I learned to keep it to myself but I admit I said things to my husband like, "Why aren't they putting our son in?" or "Why do they keep putting our son in when the bases are loaded thanks to the pitcher he's replacing?" Guilty as charged, but at least I kept the comments in the family.
August 21st, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
I was coaching Little League and put a kid in right field and his mom* marched out onto the field and took him home. Seems she wanted him to play the infield. Parents, man.
*I don’t think it was Wendy5k.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
This guy doesn't know what's going on. He's actually chanting "Combo Plate," thinking a free meal is in the offing!
August 21st, 2020 at 2:04 PM ^
Funny...but also quite concerning. Obesity is the #1 comorbidity for serious (hospitalization) level complications. Good to see he's wearing a mask. Hope he drove and does a better job social distancing.
August 21st, 2020 at 2:24 PM ^
That’s not a mask. It’s a feedbag...
August 21st, 2020 at 3:01 PM ^
Now that's just being mean and biased by body-type.
Shame on you. We expect more enlightenment and open-mindedness by our sewer-dwelling child-eating clowns in these parts.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
Is there anyone even there?
wouldnt they be working from home?
August 21st, 2020 at 12:44 PM ^
Correct. There is noone actually at the B1G headquarters. They are working from home.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:05 PM ^
I would assume even if they weren’t working from home previously, they would have had them work from home once news of the planned protest came out.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:46 PM ^
Hmm, they were better off not gathering. This is pitiful.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:47 PM ^
i honestly don’t know what the #letthemplay people want...or, rather, i don’t know how they can be so spectacularly dense.
i‘m not saying that they’re wrong to be angry and frustrated - i’m angry and frustrated, too. but literally every single person in this country has been impacted by COVID, be it lost jobs, lost freedom, all the way up to lost loved ones. a postponement (note - not complete and permanent cancellation) of what you want to do with your life? get in fucking line. nope, you don’t get to cut - what you’re missing will still be there once things get back to normal, so fucking deal with it.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:51 PM ^
I posted this about the tOSU plane reservation cancellation. Lightly revised, it seems more pertinent here.
In the movies, the righteous marching to confront someone in authority always works, because movies deal in easy answers.
Perhaps this isn't a movie.
August 21st, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
I respect any parent who travels half way across the country to voice their concerns over decisions made that impact their child's future. Whether I agree with their reasoning is irrelevant.
August 21st, 2020 at 1:20 PM ^
I'd be inclined to agree, but ultimately I don't respect any parent who sends their kid to osu.
August 21st, 2020 at 2:03 PM ^
Haha. Yeah I get where you're coming from. I have half a dozen friends who played for OSU. They're not all that bad and my pizza usually arrives fresh.
