Tom Brady, covidiot

Submitted by mackbru on June 25th, 2020 at 7:24 PM

The GOAT is both profiteering off covid fears (by shilling a crackpot "immunity supplement") and openly flouting basic social distancing standards -- not to mention NFLPA rules --  in a state currently seeing a big surge in a COVID hospitalizations. He's telling his fans that covid is nothing to worry about. Good lord.

I don't know about stupid--you probably have to be clever in some regard to be in the running fofr best QB ever--but he's extremely ignorant. But it can't be surprising that those two things could go together. You don't learn much about the world by spending all your time learning about football. I am always baffled when people expect athletes to have carefully thought-out views. Some of them do, and that speaks very well of them. But spending 40 or more hours a week devoted to a sport just means you have less time than everyone else to learn about the rest of the world.

Haha, I almost never watch pro sports, so I was thinking about college players.

Actually I assume pros work less than 40 hours per week. But given that they spent their entire educations learning to play a sport instead of learning to learn, I imagine many of them don't spend a lot of time educating themselves. (That's part of why Juwan is so impressive!)

Tom Brady is incredibly stupid.

I think he's actually really smart, but he has dedicated all of his attention and intelligence into football and he's ignorant regarding most other things. It's kind of like brilliant engineers. Have you ever met a brilliant engineer who, if you didn't know for a fact that they were a brilliant engineer, you would assume that they're stupid?

When a person over-specializes they can achieve great things in their field, but it's usually detrimental to other facets of life. A person who is at the top of their field yet overall well-balanced is extremely rare.

I don’t look to nfl players for medical advice. If you do, then you probably shouldn’t be upset at the person who may have traumatic brain injury.

With ya bill. Why isn’t anyone except Joe Rogan pointing out that exercise, vitamins c and d, sleep are the best things for the immune system. Hunkering down watching the boober  tuber is the opposite of what we need to do. Also, if you want to break a person psychologically quick, add isolation and fear. We are social creatures.

And I love my mgoblog creatures.

stay positive, get some sun, socialize in smaller groups, and for Gods sake, don’t let your babies grow up to be accountants.

supposedly drinking weakens the immune system, but I’m too lit to know if that is actually true.

Couldn't have interpreted what I posted more incorrectly.

I am scared of this virus. I think we are all dealing with fear of loss. Fear doesn't bring out the best in humans. Increasing one's and their families immune system is something we can do to combat the virus. Staying positive is something I'm encouraging.

To answer your question. I have had the polo vaccine.  If there were a SARS and Ebola vaccine, i would take it. Taking vaccines boosts the immune system. That is what I'm advocating.

stay safe out there!

Vaccinating people with live viruses was all the rage in the 19th century and it did actually do some good if properly done. But that's not how vaccines work anymore. Dead or attenuated viruses are injected in immunization shots now.

Your characterization of how vaccines work is misleading.

Not arguing against masks. Testing is encouraged. The isolation is a killer. Each % increase is unemployment causes real deaths. Opening the economy causes real deaths. People on each side of the above two sentences spectrum are not evil. Hear each other’s logic, think and come to an informed decision. Like, you know, being educated.

The US poverty rate dropped 2 full percentage points to its lowest level, ever, thanks to the Cares Act.

The government can afford a dozen aircraft carrier battle groups and endless money to keep the markets up, so if the massive unemployment and recession continues, and it will, they have the means to keep people afloat. It's only a question of will.

Because the economy is fucked until this virus is gone. No matter how badly people want a haircut.

He wanted to high five Phil Mickelson so bad a few weeks back lol.

Maybe you should nag him some more about masks and social distancing, seems to be getting so many people to change their mind.

His work outs might consist of him being outside and throwing the ball to people who are 20 feet away.

You can't tell much from news stories like this, other than what the author's opinion is.

Exactly!  The last sentence of the article gives away the game, that Brady “cares only about himself.”  New team, new receivers, seems they collectively decided that the value of practicing to get familiarity with each other down was worth the associated risk.  I am sure Brady didn’t hold a gun to the other players’ heads.  Everyone has a circle of people he has continued to associate with during this lockdown.  Brady’s involves some of his WRs.

By that same token, the line above the last one said a couple of Bucs players tested positive and Florida has experienced a massive spike in positive tests recently.  They're professionals and have weighed the risk and made a decision (I won't get into the secondary exposure they pose to family and friends but that's a rabbit hole one can go down), but this isn't happening in some bubble.  Every team in the league has new players at positions that would likely want to get some additional reps in to increase familiarity, but the NFL strongly advised against doing so until training camp because of concerns of transmission.  This isn't some vacuum they're living in.

I'll admit I haven't seen any video, just read the article but . .

CDC guidance:

Avoid large groups  (followed):  Unless all WRs, RBs and TEs were there, I suspect he was with 5 people or less.

Stay 6 feet apart (followed?):  Unless they were practicing handoffs, I suspect this was followed

Outdoors is better than indoors (followed):  I think it said they were in a park.

Only risk I see is that they presumably touched the same football which seems like a really, really low risk for transmission.

Pretty sure there are bigger spreading problems out there.  Worst thing you could criticize Brady for here is that other people will see Tom Brady outside throwing a football and decide to ignore social distancing.

Nice, unbiased article.

The last statement is the whole point.  Yes, Tom Brady throwing footballs to players outside is unlikely to be a super-spreader event.  But he's arguably the most famous NFL player in the world and at a time where lots of medical professionals are warning about outbreaks in Florida and his damn league is saying "please don't practice until training camp, we need to limit exposure", he's out practicing with other players and posting Instagram stories with tired Winston Churchill lines about fear (which is being taken hilariously out of context).

Thanks. She didn't die, but will be recovering for a while.

I don't know of any other virus that will do that to a woman in her early 30's.

I just wish more people took it more seriously. Unfortunately many won't until it impacts them, or someone they love, directly.

And since there are record high numbers of cases, that day is coming soon for a lot of people.

Good luck with that. Too many people out there with their panties in a wad thinking that masks are taking their freedoms away. Too many people not giving a shit about the collective good because they’re being slightly inconvenienced by being asked to wear a mask. Because hey, this is America and I deserve to always get what I want.

Yeah, but if you're grading on a curve of weird opinions about Covid... check out the comments of people in Palm Beach after the county required masks inside public buildings:

This angry Florida woman argued today against the mask mandate, while bringing up the devil, 5G, Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, "the pedophiles" and the deep state.

She didn't mention it, and if she had, it would have been the most moronic take possible no doubt. And if you're suggesting there's something to the "Bill Gates something something 5G something something Pizzagate yada yada," that's not a healthy skepticism, that's just conspiracy addiction.
