2020 Spring Game: April 18 at 5pm
According to this flyer that was sent out to the parents of the players.
I bet you any money there is no tailgating allowed because Crisler is hosting the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships that day at the same time.
More clueless scheduling as there is pretty much nothing going on the weekend before on April 11.
February 17th, 2020 at 9:57 AM ^
Hopefully they let McCaffrey and Milton go head-to-head
Edit: Also, what has Warde Manuel ever done to you personally?
February 17th, 2020 at 9:59 AM ^
It's the lack of selfie lines.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:02 AM ^
I don’t know why you ask because I’m not one of the anti-Warde guys on here. He’s a pretty good AD. Just boneheaded scheduling that doesn’t make sense but I’m not sure Warde is scheduling football practice. It’s probably JH.
I didn’t mention him anywhere in the OP.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:03 AM ^
As someone pointed out below...the weekend before is Easter
February 17th, 2020 at 10:05 AM ^
The last actual spring game we did in 2017 was Easter weekend.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:09 AM ^
Ok...the point is you are the only one who gets angry/upset over these things. It is impossible for events to be scheduled perfectly. And I doubt Harbaugh is consulting with gymnastics
February 17th, 2020 at 10:15 AM ^
Questioning the scheduling for logistical reasons does not equal Angry/upset.
Also, I just checked the schedule and the NCAA Championships don’t begin until 8pm. It will all work out, people just might not be able to tailgate (again).
Softball vs osu is at 2pm and should be done by 4 if not earlier, Spring Game is 5-7:50pm and then it’s just a short walk outside the gates to Crisler for M Gym. I’ll have to change clothes a few times but it’ll work.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:18 AM ^
Do people tailgate spring games? Seems a bit much
February 17th, 2020 at 10:29 AM ^
Certainly do. The players aren't the only ones that have to prepare for the season.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:30 AM ^
Maybe they are trying to increase attendance at other events by stacking a Michigan day on purpose to take advantage of people who are football first fans coming in from outside of Ann Arbor
February 17th, 2020 at 10:42 AM ^
"I'll have to change clothes a few times"... who are you, Beyonce?
February 17th, 2020 at 10:59 AM ^
What? Am I supposed to wear my Softball gear to the Spring Game?
February 17th, 2020 at 11:04 AM ^
Please tell me this is a joke
February 17th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
You clearly aren't familiar with WD. My dude moved to AA in order to attend more UM sporting events. When he says he is going to the Softball Game, then the Spring Game, then the Volleyball meet back to back to back... he means it.
February 17th, 2020 at 12:44 PM ^
AND he has sport-specific gear that he wears to each and every event. For example: volleyball, he'll be wearing a replica of the women's uniforms, ass-cheek shorts and all.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:07 AM ^
Softball gear? You mean like a catcher's mask and chest protector? Dude, just wear a basic Michigan tee.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:33 AM ^
I have a jersey and hat that I wear specifically for Baseball & Softball and then I have my Football gear. Also I go by the Nike contract so I don’t ever mix Swoosh with Jumpman gear. For example when we do MBB and Hockey doubleheaders I changed out everything in the car completely.
February 17th, 2020 at 12:11 PM ^
You are.....
I won't say it.
February 17th, 2020 at 12:47 PM ^
I'm kind of a rebel. I wear my Adidas Michigan hat with my Starter hockey jersey. People know not to mess with me on gamedays
February 17th, 2020 at 11:10 AM ^
I don’t know if this is a real thing you do or not but I upvoted you because either it’s a joke that shows a certain amount of self-awareness or it’s true but demonstrates an insane level of dedication that is in a sense admirable.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:22 AM ^
Now that was funny. Thank you.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
I don’t get it. Why does there need to be anything going on on the 11th? What’s bad about the 18th? It sounds like it just doesn’t work for your schedule so you think it’s dumb.
I don’t see anything that would point to the 11th making more sense for a game other than your preference. The players aren’t going to forget the playbook if there’s a weekend off on the 11th
edit: seems like your complaint is a gymnastics event you don’t plan on attending, the fact you might not be able to tailgate, and that you need to change clothes mid day. Has the golf course ever been open for tailgating a spring game? It’s the end of April shouldn’t they be open for business? If you want to tailgate the spring game I thought you just had to find a house or something to do it at. A friends house, find a place on the street, go to the parking lot, there’s places you can rent. The students will be tailgating whether it’s the 11th or 18th.
February 17th, 2020 at 12:09 PM ^
Sounds like he needs to be consulting with WD.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:46 AM ^
I stopped caring about the spring game when Brady was here.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:50 AM ^
The Brandon Peters coming out party game...so we thought
February 17th, 2020 at 12:13 PM ^
That one TD pass tho...
February 17th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
I can’t wait to see Freddy Canteen preview in the spring game for what big things he’ll do on the field next fall!
February 17th, 2020 at 10:01 AM ^
Nothing except Easter. Pretty sure there are some parents who wouldn't have liked that...
February 17th, 2020 at 10:02 AM ^
WD's only religion is Michigan Athletics
February 17th, 2020 at 10:25 AM ^
No crazier than any other organized religion.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:41 AM ^
Hey do you want to pretend we're drinking the blood of Christ? I'll bring the body parts, you bring the cheese.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:05 AM ^
2017 spring game was the day before Easter though.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:09 AM ^
And maybe that got a bunch of negative feedback from parents such that they won’t do it again?
February 17th, 2020 at 10:18 AM ^
But WD doesnt like it, who cares about recruits and players parents or anyone who wants to celebrate Easter?
February 17th, 2020 at 2:37 PM ^
Now you're catching on. WD's massive ego should drive scheduling... nothing else.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:43 AM ^
Even though it was on Easter weekend in 2017, it doesn't change the fact that doing it on Easter weekend is a terrible idea.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:05 AM ^
I love this time of year....BIG 10 basketball picks up, NCAA tournament, Spring Football, The Masters.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:17 AM ^
...baseball
February 17th, 2020 at 12:23 PM ^
... until you do a brief scan of the Tigers' roster.
February 17th, 2020 at 12:36 PM ^
Not a Tigers fan, so I still enjoy baseball. Besides, Michigan finished 2nd in the CWS last year and are currently ranked #1 after a successful opening weekend.
But, yeah, the Tigers suck
February 17th, 2020 at 10:07 AM ^
Later the better, in my opinion. Too many times Michigan has pretended to want to do a spring game in April, only to change it to a practice/whatever when the weather forecast shows snow/rain/wind/cold/general Michiganess. Michigan invites recruits to the games and they're in damn parkas.
Then you turn on BTN the following week and you see OSU's spring game in tropical Columbus and its 75 and sunny. Same recruits are wearing t-shirts and sunglasses..
For once we've swapped with them (they're 4/11). I don't care about gymnastics, or tailgating. Let's see a real game. Impress the recruits, reinvigorate the fan base.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:37 AM ^
This.
I have attended many of the spring games/pseudo practices (where there were spring games/pseudo practices) where the weather was, if not brutal, generalizably November-ish with low to mid 40's and a wind chill of 37 seeming the norm.
You still go, of course but why not the following week and 64 degrees, perhaps?
February 17th, 2020 at 10:09 AM ^
I hope it's at least a legit spring game and not some boring open-to-the-public-practice. I know this program is a vehemently anti-spring game program for whatever reason. It's just annoying, seeing as how almost every other P5 program gets a full-on, legit spring game.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:10 AM ^
Hard to care anymore... I’ll ruin the end of the book for you. We’ll win 6 inconsequential games that we should, have to fight through 2-3 more to get the win against avg opponents at home. Lose all of our prime time match ups on the road, and then lose our bowl game for a 9-4 or 8-5 season.
Rinse and Repeat.
February 17th, 2020 at 10:25 AM ^
You seem fun... I bet you have a ton of friends and are a blast at parties.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:02 AM ^
At least get the numbers right. More likely a 10-3 season then 8-5. Harbaugh’s gone 10-3 three times, 8-5 only once.
February 17th, 2020 at 11:45 AM ^
And 2 out of the last 3 are 8-5 and 9-4, so the recent trend would be towards...
February 17th, 2020 at 1:00 PM ^
And the last two are 10-3 and 9-4, so your point is?
