Agreed, please Holiday Bowl.
I would probably go to the game too, it's nice to be able to see my team play live and only have to drive 15 minutes to do so.
Fuck Bama, fuck the Citrus Bowl and fuck the state of Florida, so sick of that shit!
December 8th, 2019 at 2:56 AM ^
These bowl tie ins suck. This is also the last year for a possibly a long time that Michigan could play in the Holiday Bowl. The B1G is dropping them as bowl games.
The new bowl tie-ins for 2020 and beyond-
- Rose Bowl vs Pac-12
- Citrus Bowl vs SEC
- Outback Bowl vs SEC
- Las Vegas Bowl vs Pac-12/Belk Bowl vs ACC
- Music City Bowl vs SEC
- Pinstripe Bowl vs ACC
- Redbox Bowl vs Pac-12
- Quick Lane Bowl vs MAC
- Cheez-It Bowl vs Big 12
December 8th, 2019 at 2:59 AM ^
Yeah, I think I read something about that earlier this year, another great reason to have Michigan come out here, it would be a nice change from Florida every year.
December 8th, 2019 at 3:50 AM ^
Las Vegas though should be in the Raiders new stadium, so at least a better facility than UNLV's current one. Weather more of a crap shoot though.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:28 AM ^
Eh, 99% of things to do in Vegas are indoors and the precipitation is minimal.
December 9th, 2019 at 2:07 AM ^
compared to San Diego though, I'd rather have a week of San Diego weather in December. Once wen to Vegas in early February, it was like our late Octobers.
December 8th, 2019 at 4:34 AM ^
I thought it was a crappy move, but then I remembered how many bowls are otherwise in Florida and that fans who travel want more variety. So, gone are Florida and San Diego, adding Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Charlotte. Taking away one SEC bowl and one Pac-12, adding Pac-12/ACC and Big 12.
December 8th, 2019 at 5:00 AM ^
10 bowl tie-Ins....the fucking cheez it bowl....?
December 8th, 2019 at 5:21 AM ^
The bowl that goes "Crunch"
December 8th, 2019 at 9:41 AM ^
Cheez-it bowl has some serious cachet.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:11 AM ^
Agreed, remember those commercials with Desmond, Cheez, and Sam Ponder?!
December 8th, 2019 at 9:04 AM ^
I wish the B1G had a tie in with a bowl in Texas. Signed guy who lives in Texas.
December 8th, 2019 at 9:15 AM ^
Agreed
December 8th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
The Cheez-It Bowl? Really? Likely played before an empty house in Fresno at 10:30 pm on ESPN four days before Christmas. Featuring resurgent Rutger vs. resurgent Kansas. Must see TV.
December 8th, 2019 at 10:43 AM ^
Why does the Big Ten not seem to like the Holiday Bowl? I remember when it was the bowl for the #3 team.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:14 AM ^
I think Rose, Capital One (now Citrus), and Outback Bowl have always been ahead of Holiday
December 8th, 2019 at 11:19 AM ^
It might be related to the payouts from the bowls.
December 8th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
Dropping the Holiday Bowl is all about money. Holiday payout is about $1 million less than comparable bowls.
December 8th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
No, there was a time (1980s/90s) when it was Rose, Citrus, Holiday, Outback.
December 8th, 2019 at 8:48 AM ^
I’m with you. Really would rather see us in the holiday bowl then in Florida against Alabama.
December 8th, 2019 at 2:54 AM ^
I would love to see Michigan play Alabama, Auburn, or USC, or Utah, probably with Auburn being my top pick.
December 8th, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
A three loss Michigan team is the fourth pick for bowls (after B1G champs picked in the playoffs). Bama is arguably the second best team, first pick after LSU goes to the playoffs.
I don’t see how we jump PSU, MN, or WI to play Bama
December 8th, 2019 at 9:36 AM ^
The decision has no actual rules, the bowl committees have the discretion (conference can refuse if they want though). Michigan sells more tickets.
December 8th, 2019 at 11:06 AM ^
“Sorry Minnesota, we think your cheap ass fans suck. We’re taking Michigan”
PSU and MN will have a legitimate reason to bitch if they get passed over by us (unlike the Sparty tears the year we went to the Sugar Bowl!)
December 8th, 2019 at 11:20 AM ^
PSU will be playing in the Rose Bowl. Hardly a reason to bitch.
December 8th, 2019 at 3:24 AM ^
What you need, my son, is a holiday in Cambodia, where people dress in black. A holiday in Cambodia, where you'll kiss ass or crack.
December 8th, 2019 at 4:23 AM ^
I'm a starbellied sneetch.
December 8th, 2019 at 8:28 AM ^
You suck like a (Mike) Leach.
You want everyone to act like you.
December 8th, 2019 at 4:16 AM ^
Stewart Mandel of The Athletic also predicting vs. Alabama in the Citrus.
December 8th, 2019 at 4:40 AM ^
I’m sure it will be Bama given the eyeballs it’d bring
here’s to them having a boat load of starters sit. Backups are 5stars but at least they’d be a little green
And no, don’t care if UM beats a Bama team with guys sitting. If Bama loses people will say they didn’t care about the game regardless
December 8th, 2019 at 6:56 AM ^
This fan base, man. SMH. Bama will have a couple of players sit but we will likely also. Teams care about beating Michigan man. To my knowledge, Saban and Harbaugh have never coached against each other and will be motivated to win the games. This will be the marquee News Years Day game. To not want this game to happen is pretty chicken-shit, gotta say.
December 8th, 2019 at 9:25 AM ^
Who would sit for us? Other than a lineman would it really matter?
December 8th, 2019 at 10:02 AM ^
The nice thing about playing Bama is it guarantees Nico will play.
December 8th, 2019 at 12:28 PM ^
"Teams care about beating Michigan."
And this is based on... What exactly?
Not sure if you noticed this. The Michigan football program is not like it used to be. Maybe they would have cared in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s. Today? Nah, Michigan is the same as every other decent/good program.
And I would sure hope that each team cares about winning each week, regardless of opposition.
December 8th, 2019 at 12:32 PM ^
That's not true. Michigan hasn't played in California since what - the Rose Bowl 12-13 years ago? We have a lot of alumni out here and want to see the team play. The Florida bowls are all alike and we have been there, done that.
December 8th, 2019 at 1:04 PM ^
hell yeah man. Let’s do this. Yeah of course it will be a tough game, but that’s why these young men play here...for these moments.
it will be a game people tune into and Michigan can win the game. Imagine what that would do for this off season.
LFG
hail
December 8th, 2019 at 6:59 AM ^
Dang. They listed 13 guys that could skip that game. I think it would be kind of fun to play Alabama’s second team. Everyone always wonders how good their second team would be so it would draw a lot of attention to an otherwise stupid game.
December 8th, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
13 players will not sit. Leatherwood will sit and probably one or two others. Teams do not get to Alabama’s stature by having players bail when things don’t go their way. Most of their team will play the game.
December 8th, 2019 at 9:35 AM ^
In other words, the Bama bagmen will pay their NFL bound players to play the game, and offer a bonus to the whole team if they win. Suitability motivated, the Tide will revert to their whirling ball of knives baseline. Michigan will fall in it's 4th (out of 5 tries) demoralizing bowl loss (to go along with 5 out of 5 tries against those people), and the board will be largely unreadable for the next 8 months. Depression, the Michigan Difference.
December 8th, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
This is a bullshit narrative. We should be focused on what we do, not what Bama does.
Beat the Tide.
December 8th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
This is a nightmare scenario. Michigan finishes as an also-ran and draws fucking ALABAMA. It will be ugly early.
December 8th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
Listen, I'm not taking a shot at you, but you really don't know, do you. This will be the 1st time in 9 years they will play in a so called meaningless game, so we really don't know what to expect from those kids.
December 8th, 2019 at 6:17 AM ^
Jerry Palm is never wrong. He's the Joe Lunardi of Seth Davises.
December 8th, 2019 at 6:53 AM ^
We have a shot of playing on News Years Day against Alabama and you don’t want that?
December 8th, 2019 at 7:26 AM ^
Fans, for all their professed bravery are cowards to the depth of their souls-with the most fragile of egos. Good lord, as a player and coach you want to play against the best-ALWAYS!!! I would love to have Michigan draw the Alabama match-up...and everyone play.
December 8th, 2019 at 2:50 PM ^
Fans, for all their professed bravery are cowards to the depth of their souls
Feeling or not feeling confident about the chances the team you root for has is neither brave nor cowardly. No fan saying “bring on Bama” is brave and no fan saying “I’d rather not lose by 30+ in back-to-back weeks to end the year for the second straight year” is a coward.
OSU fans wanted to play Oklahoma instead of Clemson in the semifinal. Does that make them cowards?
December 8th, 2019 at 7:32 AM ^
We know what this team did vs good-great teams all year who play bama’s style
December 8th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
That's a seriously weak minded, pussified attitude to carry around with you. I'm not surprised OP feels this way at all. Let's just drop down to D-II, so we don't have to play good teams, then we'll look great all the time.
FFS, man. You get better by playing better competition.
Win the game.
December 8th, 2019 at 10:26 AM ^
No, I already have flights and hotel in SD. Haha
