Detroit Lions excitement ehh
Sigh. This is the first time in 5 years I’m more excited to watch the Lions game than watch Michigan play this upcoming weekend. Does anyone else feel this way? MATTY Stafford leading us to the promise land. However, I’ll probably be excited to watch Michigan take on Iowa in two weeks... Maybe Harbaugh will get a statement win... Maybe.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

We a pro football school now.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
I've moved on from pro football, I still watch from time to time..... I got an addiction issue with college football
I am (pathetically) already starting to look forward to the Rutgers game and think we are going to beat Iowa
edit: disclaimer I made a conscious decision to never play fantasy football, I bet pro football is great if you do
September 24th, 2019 at 8:40 PM ^
I'll have what you're having.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:44 PM ^
have you tried the new Maize and Blue weed?
September 24th, 2019 at 10:08 PM ^
Let me guess.... It smells awesome, looks awesome, the resin glands sparkle like diamonds, and that initial toke has you thinking it’s the bomb.
Then after about 2 minutes of permagrin (because you just know you’ve got the shit) the weed suddenly turns to ash, your mouth starts foaming and you develop the world’s worst headache?
September 24th, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
I feel like pro football has a little more pep to it this year. Isn’t just the Lions. I think a lot of the divisional races will be pretty intense, all the big pieces are healthy. Not hating it this year. And I have hated it most of the time for quite a while.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
I may have pizza. Maybe wings. 3rd time this week I've had this dilemma.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
Is it too soon for subs? This season has been crazy.

You callin' me fat? Or PHAT? ASL?
September 24th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
I'm still more interested in watching us playing Rutgers than the Lions getting blitzed by the Chiefs on Sunday.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:06 PM ^
The NFL is weird man. Sometimes people think they know who the good teams are and then all of the sudden a team is good and another isn’t for reasons unclear. Like, I have no idea if the Lions first two wins will end up being impressive or not. I certainly don’t look at the Chiefs as some immovable object. It is hard to win on the road in that league.
September 24th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
My guess is you said same about us going to Philly last weekend.
September 25th, 2019 at 8:18 AM ^
No, only because Philly was so banged up that I figured the Lions had a fighting chance. And the Lions still needed Philly to drop a bunch of passes, including a potential game-winning TD in the last minute.
If the running game and defensive line play improves, I think they could challenge for a playoff spot, maybe even division title. Otherwise, the rent check comes due very soon.
September 25th, 2019 at 11:19 AM ^
Winning ugly. Winning lucky, but we're winning.
I was going to take Lions and points this weekend vs Chiefs but we're only getting 6.5. Might've moved, but that's the last line I saw. I expected close to 2 TDs.
Someone thinks the Lions are going to keep it close at home.
This is the first season in decades I've enjoyed. We're competitive in the trenches and that's huge, imo.
September 25th, 2019 at 6:16 PM ^
I'm going to enjoy the game Sunday, win or lose, but I hope Slay can see the field. Too bad they can't grow the grass really tall to slow down the Chiefs WRs.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
If they trade for Jalen Ramsey then I will be excited!
September 24th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
Even if they get him, in the NFL, that seems to rarely work out for the best.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
Yeah I know. I guess I just want to see them do something bold for a change and get out of this redundant cycle of mediocrity. I think a move like that could do it...if it worked out.
September 24th, 2019 at 10:23 PM ^
I'm surprised that so many people on this board feel this way and don't see the improvement that I see.
Unlike Millen era, Quinn is investing picks, FA in the Oline and Dline. We are way better than recent years.
I'm not saying we won't lose the next 2 or whatevs, but it looks like we finally have a TE group, WR and even some good RBs. Our Oline is young and getting better.
Our defense is fun to watch. It all starts with the dline. Our lbers are better and Ford filled in pretty good when Slay went down.
Ramsey would be nice, but not sure we're at the point to mortgage our future for him with firsts.
Go Lions!
September 25th, 2019 at 1:03 AM ^
Millens first three draft picks ever for the Lions were Backus, Raiola and Shaun Rogers. Also spent big money on Damien Woody who was a big FA acquisition at the time. Out of the 8 drafts Millen participated in, 6 of them had him taking a DL in the first 3 rounds.
I am in no way saying Quinn isn't better than Millen, but let's not make it because Millen didn't invest picks and FA in the OL and DL.
September 25th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
Millens first round picks were Backus, then QB, WR, WR, WR, LB, WR, OT.
He got knocked, by some anyway, for not investing in the line back then and I still believe it today.

KC is going to Wisconsin us on Sunday.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:44 PM ^
When it happens, hopefully all of this Lions nonsense will end.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:08 PM ^
At least people around here talk about something different than how bad Michigan sucks and how we are all bad awful people for liking them.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:02 PM ^
Yeah well, I have a feeling that KC will do that to many teams this year. This game will be a good litmus test for the Lions
September 24th, 2019 at 9:17 PM ^
Just our luck they'll go all OSU vs sparty and completely forget how to play football for a game, filling our heads with false hope and belief.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:25 PM ^
I am ready to be hurt again.
September 24th, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
How much are you putting down on that claim?
I'm waiting for more info on Slay and Daniels, but will most likely take Lions and points.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
If they win two out of the next four games, I'll start to get encouraged
September 24th, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
I'm no more excited for the Lions than I was for Michigan after their first two games. Sure Michigan won, but they were ugly wins that showed serious problems with the team. Same with the Lions.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:00 PM ^
Except an extremely functional quarterback, a legit running game, receivers who get targeted equally, and a somewhat decent defense.
Other than that the similarities are scary...
September 24th, 2019 at 9:56 PM ^
legit running game? Where?
Lions are a middle of the road NFL team lacking star talent.
The teams aren't similar, my point is I am not excited by ugly wins as they don't usually translate to wins later in the season.
September 24th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
Wrong, Wrong and Wrong on all your points.
Did you watch the game? Philly's D came up to stuff the run, iirc, a lot. Helped our passing game. The running game did their part. Philly has a helluva run defense and we made them keep their guys in the box.
Star talent? So you're a 'we need 5 star guys to win? And for the record, Stafford gets his share of ink.
Winning ugly is exactly what teams need. We haven't played our best and we have a pretty good record.
Go Lions. Things are different. Enjoy it while you can.
September 24th, 2019 at 10:45 PM ^
I have one question, how old are you? If I had to guess, this post screams "youthful optimism." If not then man, why would you do that to yourself again? Of course now they will win the division and a playoff game proving this comment foolhardy. But I sure wouldn't bet on it...
September 24th, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
I dated your mom.
September 25th, 2019 at 12:32 AM ^
Kerryon Johnson is the only player on the team to get more than 10 carries this season. He is averaging 2.6 ypc. In the Eagles game he averaged 1.8 ypc. Helped the passing game? To the tune of 201 yards on 56% completion. Those numbers are setting football back 30 years. Eagles were more than happy to have us burn downs trying to run the ball, consistently setting us up for 3rd and long.
You want to talk about 5 star talent? By any metric, Stafford should be 5 star. He was a 5 star HS recruit, #1 draft pick and has a huge contract. He hasn't lived up to any of that so far. I'm not saying he's terrible, but he isn't going to be confused with any of the top QBs any time soon.
Enjoy it while you can says it all. Nothing I have seen this year indicates we are a great team. We beat KC, I will believe differently. Until then, we have played three teams with a combined two wins between them. The season isn't three games long and trophies aren't given out in September. I want to see a legit contender in Detroit, not a pretender that wins a couple games.
September 25th, 2019 at 5:51 AM ^
Your last paragraph cracked me up.
"Nothing I have seen indicates we are a great team"
Did I say we are a great team? Did anyone say that?
"The season isn't 3 games long"
Oh really?
"Trophies aren't given out in September"
Dang, Thought the Super Bowl was next week.
Go Lions!
September 24th, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Feel great for Matt and Kelly and their little ones.
For her surgeon to be the exact one needed and probably only used because he was with the Lions.
Meh, wins and losses, but for me that makes being a fan just as rewarding.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
I've watched all three Lions games. They actually aren't too bad.
September 24th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
Here is a random couple stats I keep track of for no real reason.
- The number of years since 1970 in which the Lions have won more games than Michigan, in spite of having a longer regular season, is 7 out of 48. 2017 and 2014 are recent additions to the list. Before that was a string of 18 consecutive years for Michigan.
- When looking at win % instead of total wins to adjust for length of season discrepancies, there is only one year in 48 where the Lions outperformed Michigan, 2014, when Michigan went 5-7 and Detroit went 11-5.
Whats it mean? Not a lot, other than Lions have been historically really bad and Michigan has been pretty good. Means nothing for the future but i always like to share this fun fact.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
Lions have more playoff appearances since 2014. ;)
September 24th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
I would be willing to add 2019 to that list right now
September 24th, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
The key to being a Lions fan is to never get excited about them, to expect the worst and to be pleasantly surprised when they win a game, never mind make the playoffs.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:02 PM ^
Lions and Bills in the Super Bowl! Yeah, i’ll pass on Lions mania.
September 25th, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
Almost happened in 1992. Probably would've kept Buffalo from going 0-4 in Super Bowls.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:07 PM ^
i predicted 3-13. the tie kills that prediction. however, the 3 wins or the 13 losses is still a possibility. go lions.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:13 PM ^
The ideal Lions season is 7-0-9. You may not like it, but that is what peak Lions looks like.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:17 PM ^
that would be a bizarre scenario. wonder what the NFL record is for ties in a season.
