Tailgating Questions
Good morning... after a year off, my family and I are planning our annual trip to the big house tomorrow. Our plan A this year was Pioneer HS which we’ve heard is sold out, so now we have a couple questions..
- We’ve tailgated on the golf course before, but one in our group found on parknparty.com which offers reservations for AAGOC that charcoal grills are banned. Are there different “golf course” locations? I’m thinking there might be, b/c we’ve never had any issues with charcoal in the past when we’ve parked on the course from state st.
- any word on whether or not the golf course will be open yet with all the precipitation the last couple days?
- assuming the golf course is out for any of these reasons (closed, charcoal), are there any other good venues we should check out?
thanks! Assuming we can still find a place to grill, feel free to stop by for a jalapeño popper!

If you went on a golf course from State St that would be UofM's golf course not AAGO.
Pioneer may be sold out on Park N Party but as of now there will be cash sales on Saturday. Last home game they announced pass only for Pioneer on Friday early afternoon on Ann Arbor Public Schools facebook page due to the grass areas they park cars on being too wet.
If you want to still try for Pioneer in the morning just follow Michigan Event Parking on facebook/twitter or you can go to their website michiganeventparking.com this evening to see if there are any updates.
Have not heard of any closures yet but it is still early and I have heard there they got a good amount of snow in AA this week.

Awesome information.. thanks! I thought that was true about two different courses.. thanks for confirming that. I think we’ll go ahead with UofM GC as plan A, with Pioneer as plan B for now.

I just read a personal post of a Michigan Event Parking employee that stated that as of NOW the grass at Pioneer High School will be open; he did state that he was told that if they start parking cars tomorrow and conditions get worse (mushy) obviously parked cars will be fine to stay but they may stop parking additional cars. So the word of advice was to get there early.

I may not be able to go to the game tomorrow. I could sell you a great reserved spot right on Stadium, across from Pioneer high school, and also my 2 tickets.

We’re good on tickets, but I may take you up on the parking pass.. let me know if it’s available

It is. Do you want it?

Thanks, but it doesn’t look like we are going to need it.

Fingerle is always a great spot: https://www.parknparty.com/search/lotsku/106

AAGO just posted 30 minutes ago that they are open TO MEMBERS AND PASSHOLDERS ONLY.
No public cash sales tomorrow for the IU game.

Shoot, mgoblue.com just posted that the state street and Main Street entrances are closed to the UM golf course. The stadium blvd entrance is open for ADA sales only.

Ah crap.
Not unexpected, but damn -- the last time up, for Penn State, we really had to scramble for parking. I guess we'll have to leave even earlier.

For the PSU game how early did you get there before the gates opened? and how long did it take to find parking? I’m asking because I’m planning on driving up for the game, but I’ve got a 3 hour drive and not planning on tailgating, so trying to figure out how early to leave based on how difficult parking may be?

I'm not sure if the courses (UofM Golf and AAGO) are open tomorrow. If you come up Main you can choose between golf courses and Pioneer. Pioneer only pre sells a fraction of their spots on ParknParty. There are no charcoal grills allowed at the golf course but they are allowd at Pioneer. To check on parking updates at AAGO call 734-663-4044 x6. Last week when there wasn't much parking near the stadium we sat at BWW, watched the early games and took Uber back and forth (not the same experience but $5 pitchers).

Thanks for the info. Both golf courses are closed to game day cash sales now (except for ADA sales). We may try Fingerle if we can scramble around to find a portable gas grill. Your BWW idea doesn’t sound too bad either....

Sorry....dumb question here. What does "ADA" sales mean??
November 16th, 2018 at 11:08 AM ^
American Disabilities Act. Assuming they'll take vehicles with handicap plates or hang tags.
November 16th, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
American Disabilities Act
November 16th, 2018 at 11:11 AM ^
ADA means “Americans with Disabilities Act.” So, handicapped accessible parking spaces are still available on game day.

Ah....got it. Thanks.

In driving by the AAGO course and Pioneer this a.m., I can report both are snow covered. So, that will likely cause a limit in parking like the Penn State game. The Pioneer grass areas are likely to be closed, but I haven't heard for sure. But if you can park in any of those places, dress accordingly - especially water-proof boots/shoes.

A number of the Hotels also have parking and provide a $3 round trip shuttle. I've used the shuttle from the Holiday Inn (they have a restaurant there). I still prefer taking an Uber from BWW.

I’m going to be going to my first game in a very long time, just moved back into the area. What time do you think they are going to start to let people into the stadium?
And im sure parking is going to be the biggest pain

Gates open roughly an hour before kickoff ... have fun !
Go Blue!
November 16th, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
According to Michigan's website the gates open 2 hours prior to kickoff so they should open at 2pm on Saturday.
November 16th, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
I have a great reserved parking spot right on stadium boulevard if you are interested.
November 16th, 2018 at 11:46 PM ^
I might be! Where is the spot and how much are you looking to get for it?

They need to move the facilities operations to NCRC already. Then the Athletics department can take those buildings, bulldoze them, and create a tailgating oasis.

Where is the Michigan crowd tailgating in Columbus?
November 16th, 2018 at 8:07 PM ^
Does anyone know if the charity tailgate is happening tomorrow? We've been enjoying going but the site still says TBA for tomorrow. Thanks.
