Jacksonville is one of the worst cities in America.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
Concur. This series should really shift to a home and home in Athens and Gainesville.

You're not wrong. I was there for a Gator Bowl a few years back and I found it surprisingly run-down. A depressing downtown area.
Jacksonville fact: it is the largest city (by land area) in America in the lower 48.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
Even larger than Houston? Houston has more land area than the state of Rhode Island. Not saying you're wrong, I just never would've considered Jacksonville to be in the running.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:25 AM ^
Lived there for a few years. Yes, it is a dump. It is in fact the largest in the lower 48, I believe Juneau is the largest overall. Interesting fact, I believe it also sits on one of the largest aquifers in the U.S. Our sprinkler was simply a pump connected to a pipe that a few guys pounded into the ground.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:35 AM ^
I was thinking about that in this portion of the thread - Jacksonville covers over 850 square miles, I believe, including the water in its borders. All of Wayne County Michigan is about 700 square miles, and Detroit is about 180 of that. Gives you a little perspective on how large that is anyway.
October 27th, 2018 at 11:32 AM ^
Sounds like one massive potential sinkhole.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:27 AM ^
Yep. This is just the land area of the municipality itself. Jacksonville basically has no suburbs (outside of the beach communities) and it extends WAY out north and west from downtown. A large chunk of Jacksonville is undeveloped swamp land.
Because of such, Jacksonville is actually larger than Houston plus Detroit!

I once briefly considered a faculty position there. It's a college town, I thought, how bad could it be? Answer: pretty bad.
October 27th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
The landing was alright when I was in town for the gator bowl, but other than that, you’re right. The city sucks.
Walking to the stadium from downtown was like walking through a barren concrete wasteland. The place just seemed completely devoid of culture.
October 27th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
So who should we be rooting for in that game? Does it not matter since both will lose to Bama anyway?
October 27th, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
I’d like to see Florida get consistently good again so that Georgia doesn’t just have a cakewalk in the SEC East every year. So, go Gators today.
October 27th, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
Georgia might be the bigger threat to get into the CFP, if there's a second SEC team (after LSU is beaten again), so I'd say root for Florida?
October 27th, 2018 at 9:53 AM ^
The only way Georgia can get in is if they win the SEC, and if they do that they are in regardless. But that means Alabama would have a loss, so I think the real issue then would be whether a 1-loss Alabama team knock another 1-loss team out.
October 27th, 2018 at 9:58 AM ^
i think a 1 loss bama gets in, so rooting for bama the rest of the way and trying to suppress my gag reflex
October 27th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
Would have to see how the rest shakes out but could imagine a Bama, Georgia, Clemson, ND scenario.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
Not if Michigan (or OSU really) were to win out. Bama has the reputation yes, but the strength of schedule is quite bad.
October 27th, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
If Bama loses one game and doesn't play for the SEC title, they're still in. Precedent is there. If Bama's one loss is in the SEC title game things become... murkier.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
Florida. We don't want Georgia sneaking in to the CFP
October 27th, 2018 at 11:07 AM ^
Only way a team in the SEC, not named Bama, "sneaks in" is by winning the conference title.

Nice Big Michigan flag awavin! Good job!!

Not sure who to root for in the PSU-Iowa game. Setting aside the “screw pedo state” thing, here’s my Michigan-go used thoughts:
Root for Iowa - need the Franklin slide to really take hold. A 7-5 season will help that along. We recruit against them, and they are in our division so I would like them not to recruit as well as they are. Weakening them is good for us in he long term. Also, if we make it to the Big CG, we want to beat a one-loss Iowa, not a 2-loss Iowa to guaranty a spot in the playoffs.
Root for Penn State - we play them next week. The better they are ranked the better a win would look. Also, I hate playing a team after a loss.
I am probably goi g to root for PSU and hope for a few bullshit 2nd half targeting calls against their best players. :)
October 27th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
I will root for PSU. Iowa scares me for some reason. I would rather see Wisconsin or Northwestern in the Big 10 championship game.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
Would you settle for a PSU win today and a PSU loss next weekend by 45?
October 27th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
Yes, the correct answer to this is yes.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
PSU - Iowa is one of those games where you just let it be, and rationalize why the outcome was in your favor once it is over.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:38 AM ^
Right? I don't care who wins this game, I'll laugh at the loser in any case. I do think, though, that Iowa is a paper tiger propped up behind a horrible schedule. The only decent team they've played ended up a home loss to UW.
My prediction - PSU's offense will score enough to win. UNLESS. If the weather is bad enough to even slightly effect the pass game, Iowa will win. PSU can't grind out a run game to save their pathetic lives...
October 27th, 2018 at 11:05 AM ^
Remember that time Iowa went 12-0 for the first time, and nobody gave a shit?
TL;DR - B1G West is bad.
October 27th, 2018 at 11:30 AM ^
YOU didn't care. They were a BTCG win from a playoff birth...said game came down to the wire
October 27th, 2018 at 12:06 PM ^
The first 12-0 team in Iowa history was mostly an afterthought in the national conversation. They would've been in as an undefeared P5 champ, still people wouldn't have cared about them. MSU has little attention outside of this state (they hate it, but it's helped them hide from scandal), and still made the playoff.
October 27th, 2018 at 11:25 AM ^
Is like to see Iowa in the B10 CG instead of Purdue so I’m rooting for Iowa. Would complete the cherry on top of the revenge tour sundae.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
Iowa in the B1G title game would he a perfect continuation of the Revenge Tour.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
That score doesn’t determine who is the better team.
Yikes.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:10 AM ^
I wonder what time the MSU field walk is scheduled for today. Will they be late? Will they wear helmets? Did they get the logo fixed?
October 27th, 2018 at 10:18 AM ^
They walked at 9:55 this week. No helmets.
October 27th, 2018 at 10:20 AM ^
Couple cans of white spray paint and they were good to go.

Sparty name needs to be retired here and replaced by Rockettes.

How is Florida #9?
October 27th, 2018 at 10:28 AM ^
They beat LSU and a ranked Mississippi State on the road. Then again, they lost to... Kentucky? But it's a 6-1 Kentucky. Who beat that same Mississippi State team in a far more convincing fashion.
So, I guess the answer is... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
October 27th, 2018 at 10:38 AM ^
SEC bias
October 27th, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
The same #12 Kentucky who are 7 pt dogs to unranked Mizzou. Vegas > AP.

The SEC shellgame.

Hornibrook officially ruled out for Wisconsin. Official Head Cheerleader Matt Charboneau reports that Lewerke is a "gametime decision" according to Dantonio.
October 27th, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
i wish they would tell those cheerleaders to s t f u they are incredibly annoying for some reason
October 27th, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
Hornibrook and Lewerke out today. Shea is the #1 QB in the Big 10
October 27th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
That should make for a couple interesting games today.
