Any chance we see Milton and the other 4th stringers this weekend?
Not predicting a Nebraska-level blowout, but if it happened do you think we might see Milton and some of the other true Frosh that have not made it in a game yet this year?
I had always assumed that everyone would get their chance vs. Rutger but just realized that there is a limited roster for road games and I don’t see another home game that would fit the bill.
DISCUSS (feeling a little throwback today)

If we're up by a lot, sure.
If we're not up by a lot, probably not.

No Rashan tomorrow either, so good opportunities for Hutchinson and Paye to step up
October 5th, 2018 at 4:41 PM ^
No Rashan ? When was that made official ?

At 3:40 today by WoodleyIsBeast

I'll take the under.

I'll be happy with a win.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
me too - after watching last weekend facing a team coming off of a bye I am concerned. Hope I am wrong
October 5th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
Isn't Wisconsin coming off a bye when we play them as well? That's 3 straight weeks in a row for us if that holds true. Make me nervous.
October 5th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
They play Nebraska tomorrow so sort of??
October 5th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
So there's a chance they come out next week still half asleep like another team I won't name here did after walking over Nebraska?
October 5th, 2018 at 5:50 PM ^
Unless it's M00M entering the 4th quarter and we escape 6-3.
October 5th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Let's not count our chickens before they hatch...
October 5th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
This, and why would the coaches put a 4th stringer in even if they can redshirt later?
October 5th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
My thought is that they would want to reward some of the Frosh for hard work on the practice squad - since they can now with the new rule - and it never hurts to see a kid in true game action. (Remember Joe Bolden was apparently at an All American level in practice.)
I obviously didn’t word things right in the OP. My thought was more “would the coaches put a Milton, Green twins etc. in for a final drive(s) over a Peters etc. knowing that this will probably be their best/only chance at game action this year?
Again that is only IF we are fortunate enough to be in a Nebraska situation.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:14 PM ^
I doubt it. Because like you said, this is the last good opportunity for it, but its also the last best opportunity to get the 2nd and 3rd string some more run befor a string of really tough games come up. If a rotation player went down, you're going to want the backups more seasoned so they can be prepared to enter a high pressure scenario. Getting some 4th stringers some PT accomplishes nothing.
October 5th, 2018 at 10:18 PM ^
Maybe I’m snake bit, but it feels like every time we discuss this kind of thinking, we play a close game.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
For all the people who knocked Kelly here.... he passed on Bolden, despite how bad Bolden wanted to play for ND.... Kelly knows his stuff...
October 5th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
What??
October 5th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
That level of blowout is a golden opportunity to reward walkons who have worked hard. I don't want to see that taken away just because freshmen can play under the new rule. It means a lot to the walkons and you can see by their reactions that it means something to their teammates too.
October 5th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
That’s done daily, usually by the dozen
October 5th, 2018 at 5:05 PM ^
why? isn't it like an average of 8% that don't hatch ever.
But I'm also in the "Milton is Heisman caliber" camp and would love to see him sling it in garbage time, but yeah Rutgers is the best bet to see him play IMO.
October 5th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
I can say with absolutely certainty that there’s “a chance.” It could be p=.0000001, but there’s a chance. There’s also “a chance” that an asteroid the size of Texas hits Earth tonight and there is no game tomorrow. A “chance”...
October 5th, 2018 at 6:00 PM ^
So there is no chance, since “science” and all.
October 5th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
I don’t anticipate this being a Nebraska type blowout. Maryland is a decent team. It would be nice to have a huge lead in the 2nd half, though.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
I'm going to go ahead and disagree with it being nice to have a huge lead in the second half on grounds of BPONE.
October 5th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
You don't think it would be nice to have a huge lead?
October 5th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Every time I have a thought like that in advance of a game, that game almost always gets uncomfortably close. So, no...Shea and the starters for 4 full quarters.
October 5th, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
NO.
Maryland is a solid team and even if we get up big they are not going to pass thru guys just to throw them out there. They go by the depth chart and we're not getting to Milton.
Not sure what the point of this post is anyways. If the lead is so big it gets to Milton he won't throw a pass so why would anyone care>
October 5th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
The off-season QB controversy posts will be much more interesting when people can point out how dominant Joe Milton looked handing the ball off in garbage time against Maryland.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
Milton?
You serious, Clark?
October 5th, 2018 at 2:02 PM ^
Yea especially if Jim Harbaugh is concerned with retaining BP, I can't imagine giving Milton some of BP's reps will help the situation.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:01 PM ^
How do you think Brandon Peters is feeling?
October 5th, 2018 at 2:13 PM ^
Like transferring, if I had to guess.
October 5th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
Well done
October 5th, 2018 at 2:03 PM ^
Let's pump the breaks a bit. Maryland is 3-1 and beat a decent Texas team. They also lost to Temple, so I really don't know what to expect. I would LOVE a blow out, but the spread is 17, not 40
October 5th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Spread seems a little high, as is.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
I hope Temple-Maryland shows up.
October 6th, 2018 at 9:07 AM ^
I would feel very confident about beating that hybrid team. Especially without them having time to practice much together.
October 5th, 2018 at 5:28 PM ^
I agree. MD is truly a weird team, though. They’re explosive but if they get in a rut they just fall apart in years prior. We’ll see how the weather is, too. I’m assuming rain actually negatively impacts them more, they seem dependent on use of their RBs moreso than us even.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
I'd rather see a bunch of Dylan McCaffrey (aka DeCaff)
October 5th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
I'd love to see a lot of Dylan McCaffrey (not DeCaff)
October 5th, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
I see that he has an account now. He really has always been here, even if the join date is rather recent.
October 5th, 2018 at 7:46 PM ^
I see what you did there
October 5th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
If it was a blow out I don't see the point in putting in your 4th string QB to hand the ball off against a defense that has already given up.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
I would guess it would mean quite a bit to Milton or any of the other Freshmen to get into a game in the Big House this year. Also probably creates a good stat to sell to recruits that X percent of true Frosh not only played, but played non-ST snaps.
Again - I am not predicting a blowout. I would bet a large sum of $$ that even if it were a blowout it would not be to the 4th string level. Hence the question and thought re: special accommodations or arrangements with the team IF the game were to get to that point.
October 5th, 2018 at 7:24 PM ^
Eh, I'd rather reward the walk-ons with blow out playing time instead of scholarship freshmen who will get their shot later in their careers. They deserve it.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:22 PM ^
I'll take a win of any point margin. This is not MD playing their fifth string QB again.
October 5th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
It's looking like Milton is going to be a hard red shirt (*no game action) at this point.
