2014 BCS National Championship Open Thread
Last one, heald in the Grand Daddy of them all!
Florida State is favored by 13 on a neutral field, by some ESPN bottom line metric. Will Jameis Winston with the Heisman and MNC and end the SEC's run of 6 straight?
Auburn is the self-proclaimed team of destiny. Will they have one more miracle tonight?
Line: FSU - 10.5
Over/Under: 67.5

SLIGHT MOD EDIT - Not really OT for our purposes. We'll make this the open thread. - LSA

That place is awesome. Second greatest football stadium in the world.

I've played ball on the grass inside there a couple times. It's like a fine carpet. Absolutely wonderful.

Is something that's going to be watched by the majority of online MGoBloggers really OT?
Inquiring minds want to know.
January 6th, 2014 at 8:45 PM ^
People overuse the "OT" in thread titles. Nothing related to college football is off topic, even if it has nothing to do with Michigan. I think anything sports related is not off topic.
January 6th, 2014 at 8:47 PM ^
I agree and have noticed too many "OT" in threads.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:00 PM ^
Your first sentence is more or less correct, the second is not.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:06 PM ^
I'm not trying to get in the middle of anything or argue, but to be fair to Spock, his second sentence is an opinion, so it can't be considered incorrect.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:15 PM ^
not an opinion: "Nothing related to college football is off topic, even if it has nothing to do with Michigan." That is a statement of fact.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:20 PM ^
He posted an opinion contradicting established fact. I can say, "I believe Michigan is housing FSU in the national championship game right now" and I guess you couldn't say that it's wrong because it's my opinion, but for all practical purposes it's wrong because Michigan isn't playing in this game and that's not the OT rule.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:46 PM ^
The OT designation is supposed to be used within the rules established by the site ownership. You should read the rules.

Tonite worked out perfect.. the storm on the west side of the state has cancelled our night shift for work so i can actually watch the game.. must be a sign.. Glad i didn't have to DVR it then have the results ruined by some idiot later at work

If I had to bet on something it would probably be the Over
January 6th, 2014 at 7:29 PM ^
Yeah - the line and the O/U are essentially predicting 39-29, and I have a feeling it will be a higher scoring game than that. Both teams have great offenses, and although FSU's D is pretty good, Auburn's is not.
January 6th, 2014 at 7:30 PM ^
I'm really hoping FSU destroys Auburn, but the way Auburn has gotten lucky this year almost blows my mind. That's not to say they're not well coached since you have to be damn good to take a team from 3-9 to 12-1, but they needed so many things to go right for them this year that did. That luck might get them the win. Hope not, as it would end the SECSECSEC run.

As long as they're not #1...who cares?

They're going to be #2 or #3...does it really matter?

Second time in a few years I'm going to be watching my wife's alma mater in the National Championship. While I'm thrilled for her I'm still totally jealous.

Shoulda gone with the Founder's.

I'd take a 90 minute over a Centennial or All-Day if we're talking currently available IPAs. If you're talking best IPA between the two breweries it is Double Trouble I'd agree.
The Founders Imperial Stout is out, and that's what I'm drinking. Cheers!

because B1G refs are officiating the game tonight. Hope they stay out of the game ... but I rather doubt they will ...

The downnside is that your going to have to hear the most monotonous cheer ever created- over and over again- if FSU is winning.
January 6th, 2014 at 7:45 PM ^
You've obviously never been to a USC game.
January 6th, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
I took my son to an FSU game last year. He liked the chant before we went there . . . afterwards, he sang it in the way a kid makes fun of things that drone. Naaaa Na Ni Na Naaa, Blahhhh Blah Blahhh

And they recognize how suicidal that would be, so they really have no other option but a weeknight.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:21 PM ^
to some sort of agreement though. They have somewhat of a symbiotic relationship, I've always thought Friday = Highschool Saturday = College Sunday = Pro. All leagues generally respect that don't they? Couldn't they do a 1 and 4:30pm start on Saturday for the NFL and give college the night game? Easy answer is no, they get less money. But if the NCAA were to say fuck you we want the Saturday night, they may both suffer short term but I believe that it would be better for NCAA in long run.
January 6th, 2014 at 9:36 PM ^
is that it would hurt them both short term but the NFL is both more able (as a more profitable enterprise) and more willing (as a profit-focused enterprise) to withstand the short-term losses, and college football would have to give up the time slot and go back to Monday or whenever.
January 6th, 2014 at 10:10 PM ^
why not NBC or someone without an NFL contract bids on the championship game and puts it head to head with a playoff game? I'm sure they could get as much money as a Monday night game.

you should know that their football power index has been WAY off predicting the BCS games. That said, I am NOT going to hedge my bet.
January 6th, 2014 at 8:08 PM ^
I looked at Auburn's season record last year where they finished 3-9. The three wins were a 3 point escape against Louisiana-Monroe and blowouts against New Mexico State and Alabama A&M. They got destroyed in all their losses, even against the lower SEC teams. And now they're playing for a national title. I'm more amazed than I am jealous. But I'm still jealous.
In terms of rooting interest for this game, I realize an FSU win puts an end to this SEC title winning streak. But it's not easy. Florida State was one of those programs I really hated growing up. I hated the media's love affair with Bobby Bowden, hated the fact that Bowden's star players often still played in bowl games despite never going to class, hated that FSU only had to get up for two challenging games during the season; Florida and one team from the ACC, hated and STILL hate that Braves cheer the FSU marching band plays after every single down no matter what the result of the play, and yes, I still hold sour grapes for that 1991 game against them and how their fans ripped out pieces of the field so they could take portions of the Big House grass home with them.
So, while I'm still looking forward to the game, the result is a lose-lose for me.
January 6th, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
You realize we pretty much only had two tough games during the Bo years right? Notre Dame and OSU. FSU was a step above us. From 1987 to 2000 they won 10 games every single year and won 11 games ten times. That's insane.

I'm still very bitter about getting screwed over by the BCS in 2006.
Most of the people on here have seen Michigan win a national championship. I was 3 years old when that happened.
