College Gameday (Open) Thread

It's 10:50 now.

FYI for those that care to watch...a preview on Michigan is coming up soon. They're going to give their take on our "offensive woes."

Edit: Didn't say anything of note, but Desmond Howard very uncomfortably called out Borges. Clearly wanting to say more, but wanting to keep it professional...less "homer"...and not ruffle too many maize and blue feathers. Did say Borges needs to earn his check (3rd highest paid OC in the country), he acknoledged the youth...but said Borges gets paid to figure out the problem. Repeated that Borges needs to use weapons and outscheme defenses.

In the end, this will ultimately be Dave Brandon's decision.  The more he hears from former players (Larry Foote, Ryan Van Bergen, Desmond Howard), the more likely he will cut the cord.  As a marketer, he also must realize that with a new OC he can sell hope, and he needs that hope to keep getting preferred seat donations, to support recruiting, etc.  (Right now, all anyone can see is regression, which has been Borges' staple for the past 15 years.)  Furthermore, Borges had no Michigan ties.  He wasn't a coach under Carr, etc.  Hopefully Brandon realizes that the Michigan brand he holds so dear can't take another year with this offensive staff.

not sure why people think it is "brandon's" decision...  The boosters pay DB's paycheck as well as the whole coaching staff..  If the big pay boosters want someone gone he will be gone.. including brandon

I don't know about the rest of the board, but this was therapeutic for me to hear this morning. Desmond did what I think a great deal of us would do if we were in his shoes and had the mic. My favorite line had to be " this foolishness has got to stop..."

What are the chances Brady or Al actually hear what Desmond said?

I hope someone brings it up
In a presser, although I'm sure Brady will just respond by giving Al a raise.

I am petrified that Al calls a great game today and gets another year bc of it.

Is it bad that I want us to win 9-6 or lose badly so we can dump our idiot OC

Does everyone think AB is oblivious to criticism and the possibility he could get fired? Just so everyone knows, he has been let go before. And I'm pretty sure he knows this is a production based career. You don't produce, you get canned. I am not defending him or his play calling, but it's funny how a lot of people don't think he knows what this job entails.

Even if we win today Borges should be canned. Even if we beat osu (lol) Borges should be canned. An OC cannot be the main reason for dropping games like he has been. It would be different if we were just simply beat like the South Carolina game and msu game this year, but the fact that we couldn't put up more than 13 against one of the worst defenses in the country should be grounds for firing when the season is over.

Hoke can recruit because of his passion for the university, but unless we get a Cam Cameron level O-coordinator, we won't be able to match wits with Urbz.  Urbz is a is a micro-managing type A personality that both gets his players and coaches them up to the highest possible level with development and schemes.  Hoke has a heart of gold, but is basically a cheerleader on gameday.  Love the guy, but he's sloppy and lacks that cut throat edge.  Our ceiling is second rate Big Ten with him at the helm so long as Urbz is around.  Borges blows, but in a scenario where Michigan talent = OSU talent over the next 4-5 years, who do you think gets more out of those players based on what we've seen this year?  It isn't all Borges...You think Urb's offensive staff would ever look this shitty?

The offense has had some decent games this season in terms of putting up points. The Nebraska game was god-awful no doubt...rock bottom. If Borges can dig out that should not be insignificant in his evaluation.

I felt bad when I started it and they started with an entire special on STAEE...then it was almost an hour before they mentioned Michigan. But it was worth it.

I'm glad Desmond highlighted the fact that Borges is the 3rd highest paid OC in the country.  I would imagine that a quick reminder to DB of how much Michigan Athletics, Inc. is paying Borges will bring out the calculating CEO.

"Paying him that much? For this? Waste of my money, get out!" Brady may have a large degree of autonomy, but, I am pretty confident DB will stage some sort of intervention. That's his valuable product on the field. The no-raise in ticket prices could be a response to our horrible home schedule next year, but, they knew that schedule for a while. Think it's a mistake that announcement was timed when it was? Think if we were a 1 loss team (STAEE) they wouldn't be considering raising those prices?

DB knows exactly how much he's paying borges. This is way more important for boosters and fans who thought he had a middling salary but knowing that we're tolerating this trash from one of the highest paid coaches is disgusting. Good riddance borges! We'll be done with you soon and desmond Howard was the catalyst by calling you out on a national stage! Everyone is watching you fail.
