The defense has given up more points today than that team did in regulation.

I hate hurry up offenses.

but this defense isn't good. not bad--i don't think. but not good
October 19th, 2013 at 7:38 PM ^
Hopefully just youthful inconsistency.

UM now officially has a Borges offense and an RR defense - the best of both worlds
October 19th, 2013 at 7:26 PM ^
that is not true. Talent is there just very young and getting better. Couple lucky plays for IU led to 21 ez points. (fumbled option, int that became first down, int that became TD)
October 20th, 2013 at 8:17 AM ^
Um, so what's a Borges offense? This week or last week?

This reminded me of the 2010 Michigan v Illinois game. I can't beleive how many recievers were open all day. Even when we had good coverage we still seemed to come up short. Poor Stribling happened again with the deep balls getting caught right in front of his face. I do think Stribling has a bright future, but I'll be happy when Peppers can shut down a receiver.

Next year or the year after.
October 19th, 2013 at 9:37 PM ^
Hell, if he get's the monkey off his back, he could be a terror this year. He lacks consistency, but he's played some pretty tight coverage and he's got 2-4 inches on the other guys we have. I hope the coaches keep putting him out there so he doesn't lose confidence in himself.
October 19th, 2013 at 7:29 PM ^
A full year in the S&C program will have him jumping higher and pulling those balls away from the WR's, next season.
October 19th, 2013 at 9:18 PM ^
The fact that's he's in position to make the play and turned around facing the ball is encouraging.
October 19th, 2013 at 10:02 PM ^
I remember a freshman Charles Woodson getting picked on by Tony Banks. He was in position just didn't make the plays.

I think the hurry up offense had a lot to do with the performance today. They looked ill-prepared for it. Not to mention Indiana has a pretty good offense. I trust Mattison to get the defense under control in the next week or so, seeing as he's a very good coordinator.
October 19th, 2013 at 8:21 PM ^
They weren't ill-prepared for it. There's only so much you can do for it when your Dline doesn't get very good penetration to begin with. Once again they got stops when they needed them. Indiana has a good offense.
October 20th, 2013 at 8:31 AM ^
"There's only so much you can do for it when your Dline doesn't get very good penetration to begin with."
Exactly.
This game takes on a completely different feel if the defensive line was able to get pressure on the Indiana QB. Do that and suddenly throws that were on target become slightly off target and dropped; slightly off target balls get picked; third down conversions missed and Indiana punting more.
"It all starts up front" is not an empty cliche.
If Michigan can find 4 that get push and couple that with the secondary talent that's in pipeline, this is going to be a very good defense.

Yes. Haven't you been reading the blog? When the offense fails, it's the coach's fault; when the defense fails, it's youth and inexperience of the players.
October 19th, 2013 at 10:18 PM ^
but INT is better. I disagree with teaching them to knock everything down. Strib should have two INTs right now, and he'll start making those plays soon.
October 20th, 2013 at 10:00 AM ^
if he grabbed those footballs with his hands, they were interceptions...the last ball, he was catching it with his chest and that is why the WR took it...
October 19th, 2013 at 7:28 PM ^
On the bright side, MSU might have the best D in the entire country (that's right, I said it) and Indiana still put up 28 on them.
