Tigers vs Athletics Open Thread
Hopefully being at home will give the offense a spark that they definitely need. Sanchez is on the hill, Peralta in LF, Im liking our chances here.
What a ridiculous start time. Anybody know of a good stream? I already looked at first row sports and saw nothing.

Your team ties the game back up and you turn around and serve up the meatiest of meatballs I have ever seen.

And there is Moss finally introducing himself in the series

He now has 5 HR's in 5 games at Comerica this year, unreal.

Tigers have all those righties, and he feasts on that

At least we scored. See ya'll next April.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:01 PM ^
Well, back to where we started.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:02 PM ^
So the guy who gave up just nine homers all season in 180-some innings gives up three in 4.1 frames. Mother fucker.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:16 PM ^
It's called pressure. Some players (like Verlander) absolutely thrive on it. Some players (like the guy giving up all the homers for the first time all year) fold up and die.
Oh well.

Sanchez was money in the playoffs last year. Way to use a decent sample size to decide whether someone's clutch. You sound like ESPN after Lebron misses a game tying shot.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:36 PM ^
But that's the problem with the playoffs. It is a small sample size and always will be given the small number of games played. So while he might've been "money" last year he certainly wasnt today when the Tigers needed him the most.
But I'm sure Peyton Manning would agree with you. The greatest regular season QB in league history has a somewhat checkered record in the playoffs and for some reason people (and not just me) only know him for those shortcomings when it matters most.
October 7th, 2013 at 4:45 PM ^
Verlander has been a mediocre starter in the playoffs in his career. He's 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA and whip of 1.2. Before his last start those numbers were considerably more rotund.
October 7th, 2013 at 4:48 PM ^
Verlander's actually not been very good in the playoffs until last season. Decidely mediocre at best.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:03 PM ^
Alvarez, why not Porcello? I have no confidence in any reliever in the bull pen outside of Smyly, Veras and Rondon.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:07 PM ^
Because this game may already be over. Save him for tomorrow.
October 7th, 2013 at 3:44 PM ^
Unless a 2.00 ERA and 24/26 saves isn't good enough for you. No idea why you put Veras and Rondon on that list, but leave off Benoit.

He's from around Oakland and is an A's fan. He is pretty much openly rooting for the A's...

Vasgersian screaming like a little kid when Oakland has hit their homers. Still embarrassing in what is supposed to be a neutral broadcast.

Looks like Balfour was jawing to Martinez, and VMart was not happy about it.

Balfour's a real psycho. I don't know that he was saying anything specific to VMart though, but VMart clearly said something along the lines of "fuck you bitch".

October 7th, 2013 at 4:54 PM ^
Yep, really strange. Not sure it was necessary for the bullpens to clear haha
October 7th, 2013 at 5:00 PM ^
Do you have to say anything when you're on the mound? Just throw the ball. If you get jacked after a big out that's fine, but it's every damn pitch with him. I'm surprised he doesn't get into stuff more often.
Of course I saw him pitch this year in a game where I was a neutral observer and don't remember having any negative impression of him. So yes I'm bitter.
October 7th, 2013 at 5:13 PM ^
I would tend to agree with you, and it certainly wouldn't be my style if I were a pitcher.
October 7th, 2013 at 4:29 PM ^
Benches and Bullpens cleared.
October 7th, 2013 at 4:30 PM ^
