Gameday and early games open thread
College Gameday is at Evanston today for Northwestern v. Ohio State at 8 PM on ABC tonight
It looks like the Northwestern crowd is up and into this game, which should lead to a great atmosphere tonight.
Some highlight-ish games for the noon slate:
MSU v. Iowa - 12 PM on Espn 2
- Iowa looks to be vastly improved from last year and their defense should be enough to stall the MSU offense. The question is whether Rudock can have time in the pocket to find his tight ends.
Maryland (25) v. FSU (8) on Espn
- Is Jameis Winston for real? Maryland has not yet played a good team and could be used to wipe the floor. On the other hand, Florida State is seemingly slow to start and struggled defensively against Boston College and Nevada to start that game.
Illinois v. Nebraska on Espn U
- Nebraska's defense always seems to turn a corner midseason... is this the game where they do that? If not, it's going to be a long day for the Huskers as Scheelhasse in Cubit's offense seems to have found a groove and the Illinois defense can probably do enough to stall the Huskers.

Indiana just ran off tackle for 2 yards on 4th and 5. WTF.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:26 PM ^
Worst offenses ever.

You suck, Sparty -- fuck you
October 5th, 2013 at 12:27 PM ^
LOL. This MSU kicker was supposedly #2 in the nation. Oops.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:27 PM ^
Two missed field goals?! How is this possible?
Good defense overall, though.

14-0 Nebraska. Cmon Illinois!

Every single Iowa play is the slowest developing play.

Iowa recievers need to learn how to beg for the PI flag. Dennard was grabbing him the whole way.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:35 PM ^
I thought I noticed that too.

He subscribes to the Darrel Revis school of defensive playmaking.

MSU V. Iowa: The literal incarnation of "punt-counterpunt".

I was considering taking a nap, so this game is just what I need.

My first time seeing Indiana this year. They are really fun to watch. Up 7-0 on PSU now.

Jordan Cotton (the kid who just got overthrown by Rudock) is the son of Marshall Cotton, who played at Iowa in the 80's. Marshall is also a football and basketball HS ref here in Iowa.
Dominic Alvis, #79 (Iowa d-line) - his uncle works with my wife in the school district.
Feel free to ask me about other useless information.

That was an ugly 1st Q.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:37 PM ^
All of you who bet on the first quarter of Michigan State - Iowa being a scoreless quarter with barely 100 yards of offense between both teams (granted, nearly all of that is MSU) were correct indeed. That would be most people, I would think.

Hackenberg is getting confused by IU's D.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:43 PM ^
He's a true freshman, it's not that far fetched.
October 5th, 2013 at 1:33 PM ^
Well, maybe BOB was overstating it when he claimed Hackenberg is the second best QB he's ever seen (after Brady).
October 5th, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
Yeah, not really sure what qualifies as WR holding, but falling on the guy sure seems wrong to me.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:41 PM ^
Sparty is doing a respectable job of moving the ball.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:42 PM ^
MSU is holding the bejesus out of Iowa.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:43 PM ^
This MSU offense still looks vulnerable. Even when they get some positive gains, it just seems so hard.

"Refs are missing a nice game"
No. No they aren't.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:44 PM ^
Joey Galloway is a moron. I know this isn't anything we didn't know but listening to him is turrible.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:47 PM ^
Color me shocked that an OSU graduate would be a bit lost out there in a booth. It is funny how intelligent Spielman sounds when virtually every other former player sounds lost.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:44 PM ^
MSU really does love Nick Hill for no good reason. Kid had one or two decent runs against ND but that's about it.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
Geiger finally made one count
October 5th, 2013 at 12:46 PM ^
17-0 Nebraska
October 5th, 2013 at 12:47 PM ^
Not a terrible exchange rate for the 103rd best offense in Division I football - it took 127 yards of offense to get three points. That being said, it might be next week before Iowa gets 127 yards of offense at the current rate.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
Narduzzi is an idiot if he thinks his DBs aren't holding. I know that he's a good coach, but these guys are not unstoppable.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
Watch this guy become one of those insufferable MAC coaches who gets a couple big upsets, becomes a trendy name, bolts to the big stage, and only then finally falls flat on his face. Because that's what that quote sounded like to me.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump to a HC position right form MSU. He's not a bad coach by any stretch, but his defense seems like one of those that relies very heavily on the refs not throwing flags.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
Iowa total offense before that last drive: 15 yards
Iowa total offense after that drive: 14 yards
BIG TEN!
October 5th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
iowa with 0 first downs about 30% thru the game
October 5th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
Iowa's offense looks horrible right now. I know MSU's defense has something to do with that, but that 4-1 record is incredibly misleading.

October 5th, 2013 at 1:03 PM ^
Who scored? Was it Jozy?
October 5th, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
I think we can all see that.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
Bad missed tackle or worst missed tackle?
October 5th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Iowa needs good field position to score. Failing to tackle a guy on what should be a pretty easy 3rd down stop deep in MSU territory isn't the way to get it.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Well, either MSU defense is as rated, or Minnesota sucks big time.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Iowa tackling. Not enough lolz.
October 5th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Biggest play of the year for Sparty
October 5th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Yeah, I'm not too impressed with the Iowa secondary.
