So much for staying at Oregon
Chip Kelly is the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to league sources. No announcement yet.

Lol. I went to make this post and saw 3 others when I refreshed. You're the quickest. Congrats!
This should be interesting I'm curious to see how his offense works in the NFL
January 16th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
he may have a lazy foot, but his hands and fingers work fine.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:11 PM ^
So...safe to assume the NCAA may be coming down with some sort of wrist-slapping in the near future?
January 16th, 2013 at 12:12 PM ^
Or maybe he wanted to be an NFL coach.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:15 PM ^
I see what you are saying here, and this could very well be the case. It just seems strange to me that he would interview, turn down the job, then take it a week and a half later.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:20 PM ^
You might be mixing up your Kellies. I think Brian Kelly is the one who interviewed and turned it down, if I'm not mistaken.
Either way, too many damn Kellies running 'round here.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:27 PM ^
I thought they both did. Chip first, then Brian.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:36 PM ^
As an NFL gig, Philly is a step up in personnel, organization, and prestige from Cleveland and PROBABLY worth leaving Oregon for.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:23 PM ^
Ah, well my mistake then. I can understand turning down Cleveland then later accepting the Philly position without needing motivation from the NCAA.
Edit: According to the ESPN article Chip interview w/ Cleveland, Buffalo and Philly before deciding to stay at Oregon. So, suck it. I was right.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:34 PM ^
I was wrong. I am forever shamed.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:22 PM ^
Unless he was offered more money.
January 16th, 2013 at 2:30 PM ^
Or greater say in running the team (personelle decisions).
January 16th, 2013 at 12:11 PM ^
I was in the midst of making a thread on this myself. One second no threads, next second three threads. At least that adds a little excitement to the NFL next year. Hopefully Oregon doesn't drop off, I think they're good for college ball.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
Have you seen what trying to keep up with Oregon has done to our uniforms?
January 16th, 2013 at 2:10 PM ^
The stain on our uniforms is regretable, no doubt. But aside from poisoning the culture of traditional uniforms, it has been nice to see a program develop into a powerhouse outside of the SEC. Plus, Oregon is fun to watch.

You give me nightmares.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:15 PM ^
I forgot what the post was about.
Oh yeah, Oregon, Chip Kelly, Eagles. Interesting, that.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:21 PM ^
The beauty in this user account is that Gary Busey is batshit crazy enough that you may actually be him, randomly providing knowledge on an internet message board.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:43 PM ^
I've been told by doctors and surgeons that I have the energy of ten men with regular jobs.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:29 PM ^
Anyone remember "I'm with Busey" on comedy central? A short lived gem, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word.
I'm not even going to try and embed, but here is a clip from the show of Gary Busey as a relationship counselor/woman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tN_4JsNnkc
January 16th, 2013 at 1:03 PM ^
One of Comedy Central's very short-lived, under-rated shows, along with Insomniac with Dave Attell and Gerhard Reinke's Wanderlust.

I'm very excited to see this experiment.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:13 PM ^
Kelly to Eagles, while a violation of the Board rules on informative titles, would have been amusing. If only I could post at NDNation...
It will be interesting to see how Kelly's playing style works in the NFL. Out of all the coaches with spread like tendencies out there, I think his method has the best chance of working given how he incorporate passings and the power run.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:31 PM ^
in three years, will it be with Oregon?
January 16th, 2013 at 2:33 PM ^
No. Arkansas.
January 16th, 2013 at 7:49 PM ^
I read your comment as "spread like tentacles" . . . and then realized it didn't really matter.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:13 PM ^
I wonder if Chip Kelly saw the handwriting on the wall like Pete Carrol did at USC with NCAA sanctions looming.
Mike Vick has to be extremely happy with this hire.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:25 PM ^
I think it's equally likely that the Eagles saw what the zone read did this past weekend in the NFL playoffs and backed a dumptruck full of money up to Kelly's house, as well as giving him some control over personell.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:24 PM ^
I just saw a report that said the Jets are looking to trade Sanchez and pursue Vick.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:29 PM ^
and if you think the Jets will actually be able to trade Sanchez, you might be more bat-shit crazy than Busey

This will be one coaching search where you can safely expect Gruden's name to NOT come up. I think Oregon will want to stick to the system and so far Helfrich(the O-coordinator) is the name that comes up the most in terms of taking over the head coaching position.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:14 PM ^
This is something schools will use against ND and PSU in recruiting as long as Brian kelly and Bill O'Brian are there.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:18 PM ^
And rightly so. Another of the many reasons I sleep well at night with Hoke as our coach. Obvious guy is obvious, but if Harbaugh had been hired we'd all likely be mid-ulcer by now.
Brandon deserves more credit than he gets on this blog for making that most important decision.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:23 PM ^
Harbaugh would have left us at some point, but I don't think he'd have to go in a way that gave us an ulcer. I assumed he'd come, spend 4 or 5 years here, win a Rose Bowl, declare the program fixed, and move on. Assuming we had Hoke's agent on speed dial or a talented coordinator on staff and ready for promotion, we could have handled it assuming we saw it coming and avoided "The Process 2.0". That said, I'm glad Hoke is our coach. However assuming it was Harbaugh coming here and then doing a somewhat preplanned moved to the Dolphins (the Ross connection), it wouldn't have been terrible.
As for Purple and Yelling Kelly, I think he's done at ND sooner or later. When he interviewed with the Eagles so many Domers were outraged anyone would ever consider leaving South Bend. The ND old guard will nurse that grudge and for for Kelly's throat the moment he has a bad season.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:35 PM ^
As long as Kelly keeps winning, he is safe.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
Bo only looked around one time, after his 13th season here, when Texas A&M offered him a huge raise (at a time when U-M really didn't compensate him all that well - Canham was notoriously cheap). Not that analogous.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:15 PM ^
because I think Harbaugh would have left after one year. Given he turned us (and Stanford) down, his heart was obviously in the NFL. He would have left as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
If he made it past year two, we'd certainly be sweating right now. And in that scenario, none of us would have any idea Hake was a good coach. Leading to another horrible offseason of angst. That would have been a harsh blow to the program 2 years after RR.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:23 PM ^
Need to chime in here....
Brandon didnt choose Hoke over Harbaugh... Harbaugh and wife didn't want to leave the SF area. And as much as I like Hoke, I prefer having a prick as coach like Bo or Miles are/were. We'd likely have a Big Ten title by now.
Brandon would have chosen Hoke over Miles.... and I prefer Miles.
January 16th, 2013 at 1:41 PM ^
So a prick of a coach would have prevented our QB from damaging his ulnar nerve?
January 16th, 2013 at 1:55 PM ^
But I disagree with your last listed preference.
And never said Brandon chose Hoke over Harbaugh, only that Harbaugh preferred the NFL (which your statement confirms).

As a Redskins fan, I hope he succeeds. Washington finally has a GM that can bring in real talent, and I think if things turn out OK for RGIII, Washingotn will be just fine. I like beating good teams, not doormats. It makes your victories worth something.

January 16th, 2013 at 12:15 PM ^
They already said their OC would take over if Chip left
January 16th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^
Don't worry Oregon fans and recruits, the offensive coordinntor is taking over, everything will be fine.
/s
On the flip side of that I can't wait to see what happens in Philly. It's like they've been assembling Chip Kellys ultimate fantasy team over the years, and now he's the coach. They'll sell out that stadium again in a matter of hours.
January 16th, 2013 at 12:38 PM ^
Well, Kelly was a little known offensive coordinator at Oregon when Belotti left, so probably shouldn't be too sarcastic at the idea. That said, as a Colorado alum, I've seen Helfrich when he had full control of an offense, and it wasn't pretty.
