Congrats to Mr. Lewan! I bet there is a very short list of Michigan two-time first-teamers. I think he should go for it, though my hope is rapdly dwindling.

Wow, you couldn't blame anyone for leaving after an all american year but that is an incredible list.
Edit: Much more importantly, congrats to Mr. Lewan on a truely tremendous accomplishment.

Some trivia from the U-M Football All-Americans by Jersey Number page at mgoblue.com: Lewan is the fifth player wearing #77 to earn 1st-team All-American honors, following Arthur Walker, Paul Seymour, Jon Jansen, and Jake Long.
I wonder if anyone can answer this trivia question without going to that page: For which other two numbers have there been five Michigan All-Americans?

#1 is correct, and I suppose obvious, although I had never heard of the first player on the list.
There's only been one #7, though, surprisingly enough.

The other one is definitely tougher. A hint would be that it's also in the 70s.

Good guess. But there were only two for #76--Hutch and Stefan Humphries. and just one for #73--Bill Dufek.
Another hint: Jumbo.

took me a minute to find a photo of Mr. Elliot in a Michigan uni.

I was gonna say the same thing.. he was basically responsible for Gardner's first fumble as he was beaten badly in the biggest game of the year..

Of course not, but I would agree that it is a microcosm of how the game turned out. O-line a weakness all year, but our lone bright spot got Doug Free'd (Cowboy humor) by an upstart freshman DE for ohio that could care less that 77 is a top ten draft pick when its Mich/Ohio.
December 6th, 2012 at 9:35 PM ^
Well, Craig Roh (not a stand out last year) did the same thing to Mike Adams.

Taylor did not practice the last few weeks of the season and was in a boot when not playing games... It started because I was criticizing his play in November and the OSU game. He also whiffed on Shazier on that 4th down play where Denard got blown up. Apparently he was basically playing on one leg... Talk about tough.

Congrats to Taylor....way to go. One more job that needs your skills arrives on January 1 against some dude from South Carolina. Kick some ass.
Go Blue!

Those are consensus all-americans. Michigan has 78 of them including Molk. If Lewan is named 1st team all-american by 3 of the 5 orginaztions he will become Michigan's 79th consensus all-american.

MGoBlue had a little write-up as well (LINK)
Congratulations to Taylor for this honor, as well as being a Rimington Award winner and an all-Big Ten first team choice as well. A great year for him indeed.
December 6th, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Not sure what you mean here; the Rimington is given to a center. I'm pretty sure that manbearfreak from Alabama won it this year.
December 6th, 2012 at 8:47 PM ^
I think he means the B1G's Pace-Rimington OL of the Year Award which Lewan received. Only guys to ever win the award are Michigan guys (Molk & Lewan).

Thanks.
In the MGoSpirit of renaming any and all trophies, I propose we call it the Backus-Hutchinson-Long-Jansen-Dierdorf-Molk Trophy from now on.
just to avoid confusion, ya know?

If we have 127 all-americans why do we only recognize 78?
edit: Wolverine Devotee answered it
December 6th, 2012 at 9:02 PM ^
Answered above but those are consensus all-americans. Which means they fit the NCAA's definition of consensus all-americans.
Michigan has 127 first team all-americans, 78 consensus all-americans (3/5 organizations must select) and 20 unanimous all-americans (Every selector recognizes as a first team all-american).

Thank you for the history lesson, I did not know there was more than 1 organization that voted but wow is that a stupid setup, why cant there just be 1 group of guys ala Heisman that says "you the best" and thats it.
