Big Ten Championship Game Open Thread
Nebraska-Wisconsin. 8:00PM EST on FOX. Gus Johnson and Charles Davis are calling the game.
Various sources have the line in favor of Nebraska by 3. If Nebraska wins, Michigan is all but assured the Capital One Citrus Bowl against A&M (likely) or Georgia, while the conversation is a bit more complicated if Wisconsin wins.

have won the 1st 2 B1G CG's, that makes me ill, what a lucky team of circumstances.
when we went to 3 Rose Bowls in a row in 76'-78' seasons, we were 10-1 and ranked #1 for most of those 3 years, SMH

Yep. And their 93, 98 and 99 Rose Bowl teams each missed playing one of the top teams in the conference. And this year, they get the title simply because 2 teams who finished higher than them in their division were not eligible.

Every year, Wisconsin fans sacrifice their school's lone virgin on the altar of Bret Bielema's double chin.

Don't worry, Michigan and/or Ohio State will make sure that doesn't happen next year...
December 1st, 2012 at 11:42 PM ^
Well done Nebraska. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the most points ever given up by a ranked conference team. Congratulations!
December 1st, 2012 at 11:46 PM ^
Yep. I believe they got the record when they hit 70.
In the 1995 national championship game, Florida gave up 62 to Nebraska. That's got to be #2. (I'm hoping Notre Dame loses by a similar score)
December 1st, 2012 at 11:49 PM ^
Oh I was talking just within the Big Ten. If you're looking nationally, Baylor gave up 70 to West Virgina just this year.

next year we'll probably beat ohio at home and then have to beat them again the next fucking week.
Move that game to the 1st week of Nov please, jump on board people, it's not fair to either program to have to beat the other twice in a row like could happen often here in the very near future.

Instead of ditching 80 years of tradition of playing it at the end of the season, why not just put the two schools in the same division?
December 1st, 2012 at 11:55 PM ^
we should put the 2 best programs in the same division and what? Put PSU and NEB in the same division?
We also get an improving Sparty program and who else do we get? Huh? I don't trust that effing Delaney one bit.
How do you equalize the strength of each division if you put us and ohio in same division?
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:02 AM ^
So what if the two best programs are in the same division? Texas and Oklahoma were in the same division in the Big 12. So are Bama and LSU right now. What's wrong with that? Other conferences don't seem to have any problem going with geography and letting the chips fall where they may.
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:05 AM ^
put us in the same division, how do you divy up the rest of the teams?
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:12 AM ^
Geographically, as best as possible
because that's what's best for rivalries... so we split up Purdue and Indiana and give them an annual protected game
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
Looks like the perfect EAST - WEST division separation:
East: UM, MSU, OSU, PSU, Rutger, Maryland, Indiana.
West: NE, WI, IA, Northwestern, IL, Purdue, MN.

but PSU is gonna start feeling the effect of their sanctions real soon and will be unable to hold strong for a few years at best. But I don't mind that idea

December 1st, 2012 at 11:48 PM ^
No, jump on board to us being in the same division.
December 1st, 2012 at 11:49 PM ^
Wouldn't surprise me at all. Their schedule is ridiculously easy again next year. I'm just hoping the BIG TEEEHNNN will listen to the people completing their survey and re-do the divisions in 2014 so we don't have to deal with that for more than two years.

Nebraska may lose some basketball games by this score when the Big Ten season starts...

I think it's wins, not losses, that matters.
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:04 AM ^
it's wins OR losses. They have two more wins than us. Capital One's choice is Nebraska or Northwestern. And judging by how Ryan Field looks on a weekly basis, I think we all know they are taking Nebraska. Looks like we will be going to Outback or Gator. I am thinking Outback, because again, I doubt they take Northwestern over us.

CBS has Michigan going to the Gator Bowl to play...............mississippi state.
Please. No. I never want to venture into that dump ass stadium again.
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
well, that would be nice since we could probably win that one
but the outback people aren't idiots so no
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
quite an uninspiring match-up, please no.
and why would they even say that?
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
Fuck that noise
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:21 AM ^
would you rather subject our o-line to the Cockz d-line?
these are meaningless games, all on new year's day and all in florida. the placement doesn't even matter, honestly, I'd rather have 9 wins if possible.
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:21 AM ^
I'd like to see Michigan thrash Mississippi State, to help exorcise the 2011 bowl debacle.

OK guys (and gals)..............take off your Maize and Blue blinders for a moment, and imagine you are a top flight offensive line recruit, looking to advance your fame and fortune at the collegiate level, with aspirations toward the pros. Do you go to Michigan............or Wisconsin? After watching the game a bit last night and Wisconsin just freaking bulldozing Nebraska, I have got to admit the obvious choice is Wisconsin (throwing tradition, legacy, and the whole Michigan experience to the side for a moment). I mean really!!!!!!!! Wisconsin doesn't have a passing attack, so they know you are just going to run it, and they run it at will. With Authority. Spectacularly so. Meanwhile, back in Ann Arbor, we can't get one yard rushing if our life depended on it. All year long..............ALL YEAR LONG...........Despite our declarations about how we want to be physical and run the ball. The intent is there, the coaching effort is there........................Is it talent? Coaching? System? Weight Program? Whatever it is, and I suspect coaching, they (Wiscy) have it figured out, and meanwhile, Michigan is lost in the proverbial wilderness, wandering aimlesssly without a clue. Hopefully, the new class with Kalis and Kugler in particular, can reverse the trend and give us a truly cohesive unit that can in some way replicate the Wisconsin gold standard, because they are indeed, the gold standard, and have been for quite some time.
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:32 PM ^
You are placing too much stock in one game where Wisconsin bulldozed Nebraska, Wisconsin also had some spectacularly crappy run games this season where they had run yardage totals in the 30-60 yard range.
December 2nd, 2012 at 12:51 PM ^
While certainly not a Wisconsin expert, I do understand they got rid of a new O line coach early on, and then they came into their own. Admittedly they also crapped the bed against MSU, but so did a lot of teams offensively. While a lot of stock is indeed being put on the Nebraska game, 552 yards is HUGE. Nebraska D, while not a juggernaut, is respectable, and they got their asses handed to them by a one dimensional offense. Impressive every day of the week. And again, by comparison, Michigan couldn't get the yard or two they needed all year, and all day long against OSU. They are what we want to be from a running standpoint.
December 2nd, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
is reality. I know that reality has to take second place to opinion in general, but when reality is five 4-star commits to Michigan and zero four-star commits to Wisconsin, the opinion that Wisconsin is the "obvious pick" of "top-fight offensive line recruit[s]" seems... a bit overblown, even for an unsubstantiated opinion.

If we had any type of running game after Robinson went down, we would have won that game! I don't care who was playing QB!
