I'd much much prefer to have a RS Sr DG to a So/RFr Shane (or probably RS Jr Bellomy). No offense to either of those guys, but DG's projected skill is way way higher than either of thosw two guys. That would be a season changer (and couple that with how the D is projected to be in '14)

His projected skill is way higher than Shane Morris at the QB position? That's debatable.

but I think a RS Sr Devin should easily be better than a 2nd yr Shane in 2014

Morris is probably already a better prototypical passer than Gardner. Gardner has always had a funky delivery on the ball, and Shane can actually bomb it further down field. Plus Shane will have the benefit of learning the same system throughout his collegiate career (odds are anyways).

True, and when asked about why he thought Gardner would be granted the red shirt, he said he had a gut feeling--not exactly the strongest evidence to go on.

Excellent to hear and fingers definitely crossed that works out.
In four starts, 57 of 90, 1,005 passing yards, 8 passing TDs, 7 rushing TDs....I would say that two full seasons of that sort of potential production from Gardner definitely sounds nice.

So the Big Ten (not the NCAA) grants redshirts? That seems odd.

Perhaps he has to send it to the B1G first to get approved, and then they send it to the NCAA?

I figured he would get it, but it's still good to hear. Means Shane will red shirt, and should start as a RS Sophomore. Two full years of DG at QB and three years of Morris at QB. That should make WR recruits excited.

For pulling a positive surprise where not expected, this threat deserves a Brady Hoke pooping gold picture and tag

So the request for a red shirt is based Gardners minimal playtime in year 1? Not anything like a medical/financial hard ship?

He has documentation of back problems during his freshman year.

Devin is, infact, eligible for his medical redshirt; as he meets the criteria.
A player seeking a medical redshirt had to of played in less than 30% of games and could not of played after the mid-point in the season.
Devin played in three games, all of which were before mid-way in the season. Devin had a back injury and didn't play after that.
M R/S granted, BKFINEST IT!!!

so it really sounded more like an optimistic guess than an educated guess. And Hoke also said he was pleased with Borges's playcalling Saturday. And Hoke has pretty much downplayed every injury his team has had so I guess I will take his comments with a grain of salt.
