Basketball: Buckle Up?
[ed: Michigan is likely to get Keita Bates-Diop, says Chris Balas, after saying Michigan was unlikely to get Keita Bates-Diop.]
This would be a huge get for the 2014 class to go along with that already outstanding class of 2013.
#34 nationally - Zakarie Irvin. G.
#47 nationally - Derrick Walton. G.
#107 nationally - Mark Donnal. F.
edit - oops thought he was 2013.

That's all good n' stuff, but I don't want him unless Dantonio has offered him also.

This is probably from a personal phone call that Balas did not want to spread free on the internet. Still good news...

There's a difference between discussing something with your friends, and posting it on a blog for the entire internet to see. I don't get as worked up about it as some, but your analogy is bad.
Regardless of your opinion, this blog has always been respectful of paywalled info. Does it sometimes leak out? Of course, but these guys make their money by writing articles for a website you need to pay for. It's not fair to them to post it for anyone to see.

It says don't copy and paste it; and leave some content there for value (if there's enough for there to be any value. In the world of tweets, sometimes that's all there is.)

So copying the quote and posting it was bad, and changed. Passing along the information is not. At least around here.

Has Walton formally committed yet? I saw that the other two did earlier this week.
November 16th, 2012 at 2:58 PM ^
I think there was supposed to be a signing ceremony at his school today or something He's solid if that's what you're wondering.

Yep. Happened at noon today.

Freep: Derrick Walton makes it official, signs with Michigan basketball
EDIT: here's the official release on the three 2013 signees: Michigan Inks Three Recruits to National Letters of Intent

Will anyone even get the ball past half court against future Michigan teams? I hope GRIII stays for a sophomore (edit: Junior--probably no chance) campaign, because that length and athleticism combined with Zak Irvin will be ah-MAAA-zing. Another great thing is that if KBD commits, it starts putting pressure on some of the other offerees to also pull the trigger. Devin Booker, please come on down and be part of this juggernaut.

Saw his film. izzo was interested in him. Kid's a good get.

is the key to the class. The kid is a big time scorer.

I think Michigan-Michigan State may end up becoming the Devins vs the Harris. How many Devins do you have? lol

Who's got the bomb ass dick? You do KBD!
November 17th, 2012 at 2:27 AM ^
I believe it's "Who's got the bomb ass dick, bitch?"
But I'm not sure the story isn't just apocryphal. When I was in undergrad, it was reputed to have been Braylon Edwards saying this over and over to some girl. Who was it in the version you've heard?

He's considered Groce's must-get recruit. If he can't get the Central Illinois kid from the top 25, might as well give up trying to bring in that kind of elite talent.
November 16th, 2012 at 5:24 PM ^
Groce can do fine even if he misses on KBD. Beilein badly wanted a kid out of central Michigan (Trey Ziegler), missed, and after much gloom and doom scenarios, the program prospered, and look at us now. Groce did a good job at Ohio and their is a great deal of talent in Illinois, one missed recruit is a blip on the radar.

so....I'm doing some math and can't figure out how we have room to add 3 scholarships next season (Walton, Irvin, Donnal). Plus, how will Hatch's scholarship affect the numbers? The only person who graduates is Vogrich and will will most likely not give McLiemans a 5th year. Without any attrition, where does the 3rd scholarship come from? Do we potentially not give Morgan a 5th year?

November 16th, 2012 at 5:13 PM ^
There are only 12 scholarship players on this year's roster. So Vogrich, McLimans, and the open spot add up to 3.
November 16th, 2012 at 6:09 PM ^
Trey Burke is pretty much gone after this season. I see GRIII gone after this season or the next as well. That opens up two spots so they can take 3 players from Class of '14.
November 16th, 2012 at 6:28 PM ^
He was asking about the three players in the class of 2013 (Donnal, Irvin, and Walton), which as I noted above there's already room for. He wasn't asking about 2014 openings.
November 16th, 2012 at 6:34 PM ^
Man, Purdue is pretty bad. I'm not worried about them this year.

What in the fuck did some of you guys morph this thread into?
Damn dudes! Either it's hilarious or pathetic or both, SMH

But I would be super excited about Keita committing to Michigan. That would be a huge get. He'd be a less athletic yet longer 3/4 prospect.
