Hope For Pahokee Kickstarter (Odoms - #eating)
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1021358459/hope-eating-from-garden-…
Odoms has started a kickstarter to try and get money for a garden in Pahokee Florida. They've gone well beyond just the #EATING shirts and have all sorts of new stuff that you can get for donating. There's a video in it of Odoms himself talking about the project. I tried to embed but the code isn't working.
It must have just started today because they have $0 donated. But if you wish to donate some money and get a T-shirt, or laser tag with Odoms?, then you can donate some money. They have a pretty big goal of $35,000. Just thought I'd share since it's a project for a former, and loved, Michigan player.

That must be a 15k point thing - if I had that kind of power I would surely abuse it. I can email Brian though, I have more than enough points for that.

Donated. This is exactly the sort of thing that we hope our Michigan students strive to do, so I can't help but support it.

To everyone asking about sizes there is generally an email that goes out once the goal is reached about sizing, shipping information, etc. The merch wont be bought until the goal is reached anyway, and that way there are less adjusments (shirt size, adress, etc) that have to be made.

I was reading the list of other backers, and I noticed that Tacopants donated - and he's from Grand Rapids! I never knew Tacopants and I shared a hometown.
Also, two people have signed up for the paintball, that's awesome.

Yeah - where I grew up is actually now in the FHE district, but that didn't exist when I was in school.

Major props to the person who donated $250. I just emailed Adam Rittenberg of ESPN and I think others should try to get in touch with media people too, it's really the kind of story they would latch on to and it would do a lot of good for the cause.

how can anyone be hating on this?

I hope they raise all the money and it sounds like a worthy cause but the goal and the pledge structure seem really poorly thought out.
Maybe a MGOBLOG MBAer can help them out with this.

However I think a lot of it is going toward merchandise. Most of the donations are going to be undercut by the cost of the rewards received (which isn't a bad thing, but 35k might be 20k)

Seems like a great project, therefore I just donated 20 bucks.

I just googled Pahokee and it turns out there are a number of famous athletes from there. Wonder if any of them would be willing to put the word out? Might be an avenue for Tay Odoms to explore.
September 6th, 2012 at 9:06 AM ^
Bill Bentley, a rookie on the Lions is one of them. If he can convince some of his teammates to contribute, even just one of Stafford, Suh, or Megatron, this thing will be funded real quick.
Any MGoMBAers -- which donation levels do you think have the highest margins for the charity?
September 6th, 2012 at 10:59 AM ^
if you agree to forgo the "reward", then the entire donation goes towards the project.

This is an easy win for the donor and the project. As others have said, Brian should banner this. We have the resources. Make it so.

Kudos to Odoms for supporting his hometown.

Since "name a plant" is an option, we should really pool together some ideas for plant names.
I'd recommend:
Martavious Okra
Vine-cent Smith
Rich Rod-tree-guez
MAC the Tomato (Can)

This one, for sure. Especially if it's cilantro or cabbage or something like that.
