Semi OT: Gentlemen's Agreement in B1G officially over
Now that the founder, president, treasurer, secretary and member has decided it's not convenient at times.
Former Minnesota pledge Keelon Brookins is now a Wisconsin #Badger http://wisconsin.247sports.com/Article/Former-Minnesota-pledge-Keelon-Brookins-is-now-a-Badger-82183
Well, let's be honest - any "commitment" to Minnesota is just a placeholder until a good program comes calling.
Unless that is the height of your offer sheet, in which case, may God have mercy on your soul.
I'm not a fan of Bielema, but that's not the reason he was upset at Urban Meyer. He was upset because he thought Meyer had "bumped into" Kyle Dodson during a dead period. He also accused Meyer of having former Buckeyes in the NFL call recruits.
The "gentlemen's agreement" was the product of Joe Tiller's imagination, not Bret Bielema's.
Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema has called the recruiting tactics of new Ohio State coach Urban Meyer "illegal," citing a so-called "gentlemen's agreement" that Big Ten coaches will not recruit players who have verbally committed to another league school.Takeaway: Bielema is, has been, and will continue to be, a freestanding asshole.
Some had speculated that Bielema's complaints had to do with a "gentleman's agreement" in the Big Ten not to recruit committed players, but Bielema has said that was not the case.Did Bielema flip-flop? Possibly. But I haven't read a direct quote from Bielema alleging the existence of a gentleman's agreement. I think it was just speculation by sportswriters who were too eager to fill in the blanks and too lazy to do their research.
Knowing how the media operates, you could easily be quite right. I propose however that as Michigan fans we don't let minor differences stand between the higher truth that unites us: Bielema is a weaselly scumbag no matter how you parse his words. Call it a gentlemen's agreement.
I'm not sold that said agreement ever existed. It only ever came up from hurt feelings surrounding a decommitment.
That's the best misspelling of Bielema I've ever seen!

I learned how to read before I learned how to write
#ESPN says Illinois sent six coaches to #PennState. In the parking lot. I don't think Zooker would do that.
That is more than half the staff. Pretty despicable stuff right there. Pretty much what I would expect from a guy who coached under Pat Dye, Urban Meyer, & Jim Tressel.
I think Beckman sees this as his best opportunity to get to the CCG. He could pull a UCLA this year and get there with like a 4-4 record if one of those wins is against Wisconsin.
Only if Wisconsin also loses four conference games. If UW goes 7-1 and UI 4-4, UW goes to the BTCG.
I think it's more that he sees this as an opportunity to expedite the rebuilding process. If he can land some starting-caliber players, that's huge for them.
Yes. Obviously. But Wisconsin will be breaking in a new QB and their defense is meh at best. Couple new OL as well and I personally don't think much of BB's coaching chops. Still have OSU, Nebraska and MSU on the schedule. I could definitely see them losing 3-4 conference games.
I have a secondhand report via multiple PSU alums here in the office that says UM, MSU coaches are there as well.
Interesting if true. Is it a lowball being there?! Or is a coaching staff stupid not to send someone there in order to not be left behind in the never-ending recruiting battle?!
If there is mutual interest there is no good reason not to be there. You can't afford to wait. It's important for those players to get acclimated to their new schools and teams asap. Recruiting is a tough business and I don't think O'Brien's whining yesterday got him any sympathy. The reality is that you're doing the kids who want to leave a favor by giving them more options.
The image of the Illinois coaches in the parking lot putting flyers on windshields is hard to shake.
I think what Illinois is doing (sending half their staff there) seems a little unseemly, but I don't think a quick phone message or email ("Hi, this is the Michigan staff, here's our contact info if you want to get in touch") would be improper.
In this day and age of twitter, it probably would have got out. And the fact that multiple PSU alums have this story when it is nowhere in the public, make me even more skeptical.
How uppity can you really get about it if it's not against the rules?
Wait...you mean the one that never really existed? Oh the humanity.....
It only exists for teams that don't recruit well.
The gentlemen's agreement came from the MSU staff, complaining about Ohio poaching their commits. Dantonio probably did have some agreement with Tressel, but now he's left to twist in the wind without protection from Columbus.
how can something that didn't officially exist be officially over?
And that he's too fat to jump around.
