Notre Dame to Big 12?
Chip Brown of Orangebloods is reporting Notre Dame is in talks to move their Olympic sports from the Big East to the Big 12 along with scheduling 3-6 football games against the Big 12 per year.

I hope this happens. Their new conference rivals in closest proximity: Iowa State and West Virginia. Good job Irish.
Wait... what? Clemson and VT are not in the big east
Yah, take this year for instance.
5 out of the last 6
That is all.
I think they would be better off in the Big East for basketball, proximity, etc.
This wouldn't be the 1st time Chip Brown is wrong. He has a pretty bad track record
well after all ND is a "national brand" program ....
We don't do those lame emoticons around here. Only pictures of kittens. Thanks.
with a lame emoticon pasted on its face be acceptable?
Good.
Will going to the Big 12-that's-actually-ten be what elevates Notre Dame to the level of an intergalactic program?
okay by me.
The Big Ten needs to stop playing Notre Dame. Let them do what they wish but stop allowing them to pick and choose what is best for them. If they want to maintain regional road trips with little travel expense they can play MAC schools.
While I appreciated the rivaly in my lifetime, I wish Michigan and the B1G, especially if ND starts moving things to the Big 12, would end their relationship with ND completely. I had always wanted ND in the B1G, way more than Penn St. or Nebraska, and took offense to how they treated the B1G and the midwest in general. Now they're like Lebron James and "The Decision", prancing around their "talents" to whatever conference fawns over them the most. Now a lot of people think BOTH are douches. Congrats on being prom queen in 1988, but that was a LONG time ago. I would take a "home and home" with USC over ND any day of the week.
I doubt we'd have too much trouble finding a suitable replacement team. Why not use the new agreement with the Pac12 to our advantage and make a permanent deal with USC, Oregon, Stanford... I think Boise St. would be pretty exciting. Clemson, Virginina Tech, Miami... Michigan is an elite program and it seems to me that strength of schedule is starting to carry more weight these days.
"One of ND's biggest attractions to the Big 12 is the ability to have its own Tier 3 television network, along the lines of Texas' Longhorn Network. "
I am guessing they see a huge opportunity to fill a void in the South Bend-Elkhart-Mishawaka television market with such a move. So much for a "The Return To Glory Will Not Be Televised" campaign, I suppose.
"Notre Dame's explanation to the Big East would be that the Big East is no longer the conference the Irish joined as a non-football member back in 1995, the sources said."
Well, considering that ND helped vote down that $1.2 billion television deal that the Big East had put together to broadcast football games despite being a non-football member (but voting member, since their other sports are Big East), I want to believe that Notre Dame knows, at least in part, why this might be the case (others factors aside for the moment).
Nuck...I mean Fuck Notre Dame.
Let them make their beds. I'm sure their east coast/midwest fans are going to love travelling to Waco and Lubbock, Texas to play a volleyball game.
While the Big East has places just as far (Tampa), and midwest/deep south has Catholics...I would pissed if I had to chase my son or daughter around the middle of nowhere to watch them play their Olympic sport when football still isn't in a conference and can pretty much continue its regularly scheduled program.
Hey Notre Dame, if you want to be Independent, BE INDEPENDENT. Let all your teams find their own conference. Let tennis play in the Big West if it so chooses. Don't let football pimp out all of the other sports as bait to get more money. Or do, take the highest bidder for each sport. Let's have "The Auction" on ESPN hosted by LeBron James, who never went to college...so it fits even more.
Rumor: ND to Big 12
Did you see what I did there?
O'Doole rules!
Back to your regularly scheduled programming...
Eh, it's not like he used "ND 2 B12?"
"To hell with Notre Dame."
I'm a big fan of anything that might get Notre Dame into a conference and off of Michigan's schedule every season. The rivalry is nice, but I'd rather see them play a home and home every six years and have Michigan schedule a national opponent the other four years. In that sense, I envy Buckeye fans. They've had some really great home and home series in the last ten or so years with Texas and USC. To me, that's a much better scenario than playing a one-off game at Jerry World every 5-6 years.
AND play Notre Dame.
Give me 1980's/ early1990's schedule any friggin day of the week over UMASS and AF
as a blacksmith is today.
