Jake Butt Invited to The Opening
From The Opening Twitter account:
S/O and congrats to Pickerington North (Ohio) TE Jake Butt (@bigjakeyB_1), who was invited to the 2012 #THEOPENING today #GoBlue #Team134
Butt is the sixth Michigan commit be invited. (Morris, Butt, McCray, Lewis, Dawson, Charlton)
Congrats to Jake!
There will be more committs that will make the Opening.. Congrats kid, Its a Big Fucking Deal
BFD - this is good for the kids’ self-esteem -not so good for their skill development. The Opening, Sparq training, elite camps ... this is more the ground work for the future commercialization of these athletes.
Has any coach endorsed this "training"? No. It's money. Connections will be made. Business is what business does. This isn't the only example of this but Nike is perhaps the most affluent. If that makes this a BFD then BFD.
I support these athletes. I'm happy for Jake. The Opening... I don't think it means much in the end. The sleds weigh about the same throughout the country. Give me some football... not Combine Jr.
That said ... I might go and check it out (not that there is much for the public) if I can get out of lawn care duties. Life is full of hypocrisy.
Nice to hear. Jake deserves more attention than he's been getting from the recruiting services. Underrated#
... but i believe it is #Underrated. Could be totally wrong.

Sir.
"We are... Penn State" has been their thing for a while.
I'm pretty sure Penn State stole it from Farmer's Insurance...
Marshall stole it from Penn State.
From this article, the "We are Penn State" came before Marshall's version.
Marshall University unofficial sports historian and radio broadcaster Woody Woodrum said, "I remember them starting the cheer in the late eighties at Fairfield Stadium. I don't remember what the thing was that really got it going."
"I had heard that cheer before at Penn State when I was up there back in the late seventies and early eighties, we are Penn State: “We are, Penn State.”
So, late seventies for PSU, and late eighties for Marshall.

What are the odds that Jake has (a) heard of Shakey Jake, and (b) would consent to Shakey Jake as a nickname?
at best.
Does anyone know who/how many commits of ours went to the Opening last year?
Not sure, the only one I remember for sure is Magnuson.
But TomVH just tweeted this:
Michigan's 2013 class: 20 commits, 16 four-stars, 11 ESPN150's, 7 Under Armour All Americans, 6 invites to The Opening
Ross, Richardson, and Magnuson might have been the only ones.
EDIT: And Ojemudia and Standifer
It was
yeah they wrote it but they were not the first ones to write it. most of the commits use it
What exactly is "the Opening" anyways?

When you get to be my age, this is how you feel every day. Just lower your eyes and shake your head at anything you don't understand, it works wonders to prevent nutjobs and imbeciles from annoying you.

Herm is that you in that picture?
Rockin' MGoBlog!Kkudoas to you fine Sir. I also think we should all consider ending each post with a name signature.
-Tim
is the only UM grad from '61? Damn, I'm even more impressed by his credentials now.
It's a new all star game - very select company - big honor to be invited. Not so different from the Army Game or the Under Armour . . . .
It's more of a combine/camp.
And by 'more of', you me "exactly is" a combine/camp.
And also a way to pimp Oregon and Nike.
I think I read it was 150.
should be called The Wolverines!!!

the only one i included was treadwell.... and i think that we all agree that we are the outright favorite for him.
While true I don't think he's a mortal lock as of yet.
yeah obviously. this is just a hypothetical thing. i was fantasizing about what our team could look like in a couple years.
The rest of the 2013 and all the 2014 commits, but don't worry, that will soon be provided by THE_KNOWLEDGE, THE_IGNORANCE and The Party Room (or as I like to call them: THE_GOOD, THE_BAD and the ugly.)
I'm not sure if "the ugly" or "the weird" is more appropriate for The Party Room.
I always wonder why Magnuson never make these mock teams. I'd say he starts at right tackle as a reshirt sophomore.
