Would we prefer an FSU loss, or does it even matter at this point?
If you don't want them in our bracket...you want them to win, that way they're a 3-seed.
If you want Michigan to have a better shot at a better region...then you want them to lose and be a 4-seed.
Edit: Adding my personal interest...personally, I don't want Michigan in a region with UNC or Kentucky. I don't think we're athletic enough. I want to be in Syracuse's region (the East) because I think we can shoot over that zone should we get that far.
The other option would to be in the B1G Winner's region (the West) since we've beaten both of those teams. But then we lose the advantage of running a system most teams haven't seen.
I'm praying we're in the East with Syracuse and Duke.
We wont be a 5 or 6.Maybe 4.
We're a 3-seed LOCK, IMO...it just whether that's a high 3 or a low 3.
Currently it looks like this
- Kentucky - South
- Syracuse - East
- UNC - Midwest
- B1G Winner - West
- Kansas - Midwest
- Mizzou - West
- B1G Loser - East
- Duke - South
- Baylor - South
- Marquette - Midwest
- Michigan - East
- Georgetown - West
With a win...FSU maaaay be able to jump both us an Gerogetown. But I'm not positive even that can happen. (Edit: Joe Lunardi actually has FSU has the last 4-seed behind L'ville, Indiana and Wisconsin...L'ville won the Big East so now I'm really not sure FSU is going to leap frog everyone even with a win).
So I currently have...
South
1. Kentucky
2. Duke
3. Baylor
East
1. Syracuse
2. B1G Loser
3. Michigan
Midwest
1. UNC
2. Kansas
3. Marquette
West
1. B1G Winner
2. Mizzou
3. Georgetown
The biggest thing we need to look for at 6pm isn't the top seeds...it's the lower seeds. We do NOT want to play a Gonzaga, Davidson or VCU. And then you worry about the big boys. In that case, I love what I have above. I'd rather play the B1G loser after a week to prepare than Duke or Kansas. The B1G Team isn't going to learn much more about us...the other teams could get a lot better against us in the week between the 1st and 2nd weekend.
It violates two of the Bracket Principles:
Each of the first three teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions....
Conference teams shall not meet prior to the regional final unless a ninth team is selected from a conference. If the committee is unable to reconcile the bracket after exhausting all reasonable options, it has the flexibility to waive this principle to permit two teams from the same conference to meet each other after the second round.
Michigan can't be placed with OSU or MSU. They would swap Michigan and Baylor in this scenario, or swap the B1G loser with either Kansas or Duke.
Henson is dressed for the Tar Heels, will only play in an emergency situation. You have to think he'll end up sitting this game and the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
UK up 9-7 with 15:25 to go in the 1st half
FSU up 14-11 with 14:36 to go in the 1st half
St. Bona up 5-4 with 15:04 to go in the 1st half
We'll be fine. We had bad games against Iowa, Purdue and a few others and bounced right back. Beilein and his staff know what do do and we'll be ready for this week.

Very cool wristbands and supports our own guys!
I would prefer to see St. Bonaventure win and increase the A10 presence in the big dance.
Kentucky 43-41 with 17:21 to go
FSU 62-54 with 13:12 to go
St. Bona 41-33 with 13:29 to go
...anyone think Bruce Weber could end up at Nebraska?
Given his B1G cred?
here. Maybe third time playing #1 is a charm.
with 90 seconds left 65-62
St. Bonaventure taking another bid away from the bubble Northwestern is probably kicking themselves right now
Vanderbilt is going to beat Kentucky. Will this boost Vandy's seed significantly, or is it too late in the process to make a difference?
Vandy was a likely 5 seed...they weren't going to jump to a 3 seed. They may have flip flopped with FSU (a 4 seed) if FSU lost...but they didn't. I think Vandy jumps to the 4 line...FSU jumps to the 3 line...Indiana falls to the 4 line.
Vandy, FSU and St. Bona ALL WIN!!!
Congrats to FSU. Big win for their program. I have been impressed with their coach every time I have seen him interviewed, seems like a real cool guy. Anyone who makes UNC fans cry is good in my books.
Also, 3 seed, 4 seed, it doesn't really matter much to me. I don't see this team making a push past the sweet 16 this year anyways. If we get really hot from three we could win a sweet 16 game, but I think that is our ceiling. I am happy with how this team has grown this season, but next year is when we will be truly dangerous and pushing for a #1 seed and Final Four berth.
I love seeing the underdogs pulling it off. Congrats St. Bonnies, FSU, and Vandy! Its nice to see teams not named Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, (insert other perennially dominant basketball school) winning their conference tourneys. Those guys can be proud of their accomplishments.
I don't want State to have those bragging rights. Their basketball fans are more obnoxious.
I'm going Ohio with the 1-0 victory.
Currently it looks like this
- Kentucky - South
- Syracuse - East
- B1G Winner - Midwest
- UNC - West
- Kansas - Midwest
- Mizzou - West
- B1G Loser - East
- Duke - South
- Baylor - South
- Marquette - Midwest
- Michigan - East
- Georgetown - West
- Louisville - Midwest
- Florida St. - South
- Wisconsin - East
- Vanderbilt - West
- Indiana - Midwest
- Wichita St. - West
- Florida - South
- Murray St. - East
South
1. Kentucky
2. Duke
3. Baylor
4. Florida St.
5. Florida
East
1. Syracuse
2. B1G Loser
3. Michigan
4. Wisconsin
5. Murray St.
Midwest
1. B1G Winner

4. Louisville
5. Indiana
West
1. UNC
2. Mizzou
3. Georgetown
4. Vanderbilt

If that holds to form, we could play a conference rival in the Sweet 16. I know we've faced a few in the tourney before (Indiana in the '76 final, Illinois in the '89 Final Four, Ohio in the '92 regional final) . . . have we ever played Sparty in it?
On top of the two I mentioned before, this now violates a third Principle:
There shall not be more than two teams from a conference in one region unless a ninth team is selected from a conference.
Michigan can't be in a region with either MSU or OSU and Florida St. can't be with Duke or NC, and they won't have two conference teams meet in the regional semi (Indiana and B1G conference champ; Florida and Kentucky) unless there are nine teams in from the conference.
Using your S-curve it would look something like this:
- Kentucky
- Duke
- Michigan
- Wisconsin
- Wichita St.
- Syracuse
- B1G loser
- Baylor
- Vanderbilt
- Indiana
- B1G winner
- Missouri
- Marquette
- Florida St.
- Florida
- North Carolina
- Kansas
- Georgetown
- Louisville
- Murray St.
As I look at it, this also has the advantage of a couple of natural rivalries in the second round, something they like to set up if they can. It seems plausible....
But doesn't that say "more than two" teams? There are only four regions, so you have to put two teams from the same conference in one if it gets more than four bids.
he had three B1G teams in the top 4. They won't do that.
I quoted the other principles in a post above--the first three teams from a conference have to be in different regions, and two teams can't be paired in the same regional semifinal unless there are nine teams from the conference in the tournament.
OK, I see. You're right - we can't face a B10 team in the Sweet 16.
I thought you couldn't face a conference team in the first 2 rounds...it's the Sweet 16?
I did take it into account, but I didn't have a 4 and 5 seed from the same conference (a 2nd round matchup). Again, I wasn't sure but I thought you could have 2 teams from the same conference in the sweet 16, are we sure about this? I honestly am not positive.
Page 4 has the relevant rules.
May as well make it count:
Is it just me or does anyone else want to reach their arms through their TV...grab Doug Gottlieb by his neck, pull him back through into your living room and beat the living SHIT out of him?
The best thing about Vandy upsetting Kentucky: one less championship UK will have to vacate in a few years.
