The hell with Jordan Diamond (actually not, good luck to the kid), but I love the fact that Hoke et. al. are stacking this club with intelligent, high-character kids who love Michigan. Of course you need talent to win as well, but the glue that holds a program together year-to-year is a constant supply of upper classmen who can LEAD. Hoke is building a program that he knows he can be proud of, regardless of wins and losses, and that is good with me (though, wins please). Gibbs sounds like a great kid and I wouldn't be surprised if he's starting in a few years.

his highlight film, and also seeing his measurable I am really glad he is part of this team. I mean with the luck we have had with walk-ons who to say he cant continue the gold mine we have had with Kovacs, and Henniger

About time we got some flannel wearing football players.

and another great kid. Love to seehim fill out that frame and earn a scholly.

Thanks Aquaman for the great interview!
What a cool kid! He really understands what he has going. I teach juniors and seniors and many of them want to attend Michigan but most of them just can't make the grade. It's neat to see Mr. Gibbs embrace his opportunity. You're right; he will be easy to cheer for!

Feels good that Mario gave this kid so much praise as a tough competitor.. I really hope this kid succeeds at Michigan.

isn't too liberal for Dan Gibbs. You hear that Dan O?

He was always Tennesse's to lose.

We're over Dan O'Neil, have been for years. Just not Dan O'Brien. :)

Well played sir, and my bad. You know what I meant ;)

Not a term often heard uttered here in Ohio! Go blue and good luck to this fine young man.

An Eagle Scout and a 32 ACT...I can't wait to see him playing for the Maize and Blue and excelling on the field and in the classroom.

Another great interview. Thanks aqua

Talk about a high quality kid with a great attitude. Hope he has a great career in the winged helmet.

Saban offered him a quality job at the Tuscaloosa Best Buy until next semester, and he still walks on at Michigan. Some kids are just so ungrateful these days, I tell you.

(some are still thinking about it) and then there are kids like Gibbs that take about 30 seconds to go blue.

I have been reading Mgoblog for about a year, and just now decided to sign up. Great interview Aquaman. It is always good to hear interviews like this. I think he will be force to be reckon with. schollie or not. thats a big boy and with the right coaches his skill limit is sky high. Go Blue!
February 7th, 2012 at 11:30 PM ^
I honestly believe we're seeing the front-end of a long string of recruits coming in based on Hoke's principle of integrity, responsibility and honor. Young men of good character yearn for that ... and they see it in Hoke and Michigan now.
Such players over-achieve. Just watch. We're in for a show.

But can he get them temporary jobs at local and state wide retail establishments until a scholarship opens up? Yeah, that's right, I didn't think so. #TheAlabamaDifference.
February 7th, 2012 at 11:51 PM ^
Are you familiar with the economic demographics of Birmingham, Michigan? I doubt Mr. Gibbs requires working at some "retail establishment" to make ends meet.

I remember when Carr was named head coach talking about something similar. Apparently there had been some defection or personality issues in recent years and one of the things he said was that he was going to recruit Michigan hard because kids who love the university and understand the rivalries are the glue of a program. (Well I'm paraphrasing from a memory but that was the general idea.) Anyway, it just makes sense that you need the energy of kids who see Ann Arbor as their destiny or dream, not just a stepping stone to the NFL.

As a fellow Eagle Scout who enjoys a nice flanel shirt, this guy better not embarrass our kind.
February 8th, 2012 at 3:09 AM ^
I am an Eagle Scout too!
February 8th, 2012 at 8:04 AM ^
Is that the entire band Pearl Jam duck taped together walking down State Street? No, that's just Danny Flannel, Michigan's last boyscout.
February 8th, 2012 at 8:48 AM ^
Cant wait for Grunge style to come back around, the "Nary a Fuck is given how I look" flannels and boots are right in my wheel house.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:04 AM ^
We were rockin' the Danner's and flannel on campus in the 80's...
Is somebody implying that timeless fad ever went out of style? Huh...
February 8th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
I love that he's an eagle scout (i'm not). He seems like a great kid and should do really well at Michigan.
Welcome Dan and Hail!

Really enjoyed the Gibbs article, any chance you might continue and do others on M's walk-ons? I for one would love to know them and get some inside info. I know Bo Dever, Ken Allen, and Mark Lawson have been offered preferred walk-on status. They might be very emotional stories, as some have turned down scholarships at other schools just to BE BLUE!!
February 8th, 2012 at 2:15 PM ^
I've arranged interviews with Dever and Allen. I'll be sure to arrange one with Lawson.
