I just went over to tRCMB and they are mentioning some kind of family hardship waiver that allows a player to transfer without sitting out.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
Transfers do not count against the 25-scholarship limit for a recruiting class.
However, he would count against the 85-scholarship limit for the team in 2012, even if he's sitting out the season due to transfer rules.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
So numbers-wise we would be in good shape, yeah?
December 28th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
Well, if I'm doing the numbers right, it would mean we would have to lose someone else to attrition...or we would have to sign one fewer recruit in February.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Is that assuming we give T-Rob and Cox the "thanks for a great four years" convo?
EDIT: I just counted for myself, and assuming Terrence Robinson and Mike Cox don't come back, we have exactly 85 guys if this class is 28.
Now, the chances of at least one guy currently on the team bailing before fall or one guy from this class not making it for one reason or another is very high, so we should be in good shape to take him if that works out.
December 29th, 2011 at 9:07 AM ^
Actually, I have no inside information, so the title should read: we should ask Terrance Robinson back. Having a special teams all-star is always useful. He's not Steve Tasker yet, but getting there.
Cox, on the other hand, maybe not. Given his HS background, he shouldn't need the fifth year to graduate either.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
assuming we lose someone else to attrition or ask another 5th year (besides Cox and T-Rob) not to come back, it sounds like we would have room for Arnett and a 28 man class. It sounds worth it to me, especially if Arnett gets a hardship exemption to play next year.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
From what I have read on the Rival's board, it sounds like Shane is already recruiting him hard.
Also TomVH/cup cake, has been mentioning his name for about a weekish now. If we have a spot, there is mutual interest.

S_Morris12 Shane Morris
December 28th, 2011 at 8:08 PM ^
Wow is it great to have a recruiter like Shane locked up already. These rumors came out, no doubt the coaches knew about it and told Shane, and the same day he's in Arnett's ear with tweets like that. He must be a huge tool for our class.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
How dare you call Shane Morris a huge tool.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:14 PM ^
How dare you talk about Shane's tool.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
What did you say about Jon Shaw?
December 28th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
Tool is coming to the Palace?
December 29th, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
December 28th, 2011 at 9:10 PM ^
So if Shane pans out on his potential in college, has social media allowed him to be the most valuable Wolverine of all time?
December 28th, 2011 at 7:54 PM ^
We're not even sure if THIS coaching staff is interested in him. It was Rich Rodriguez that recruited him, although it seems fairly logical to assume we would have interest.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
If Shane Morris is tweeting about him, that's a pretty strong sign the staff is considering him.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:04 PM ^
Where is Sparty gloating about him being a "lock"? I haven't seen or heard anything like that. I thought he liked them before going to UT but would that have carried over? Could things have changed since? I'd say UM has just as good a shot.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:06 PM ^
In 2009, Broderick Green transferred from USC to Arkansas to be with his ailing grandmother in Little Rock. He received a waiver from the NCAA that allowed him to be eligible without sitting out a year.

inquires about his services. If he interested then lets findout his interest before shutting it down!

Can't we just pull an Urban and claim a medical waiver off some kid to make room for Arnett?
December 28th, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
December 28th, 2011 at 9:08 PM ^
I had high hopes for that young man
December 28th, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
Sorry to venture off topic, but what's the word with Zettel?
December 29th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
not happening.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
I'd rather have a stud wide receiver than an uninspiring tight end. I'd rather we get the best players available and not just add a TE for the sake of it.
December 28th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
Arnett would be sitting due to transfer rules! He doesn't HAVE to count against the recruiting scholarships for THIS year at all.
Getting Arnett doesn't mean we don't recruit another TE or anything of the sort.
And what's up with the "uninspiring TE"...I can't stand all of these star gazers! Give me a 6'6 target like Sam Grant ANY day. Do you SEE what we have at TE next year?! We have Brandon Moore who's most famous for missing the block against MSU on 4th and 1 that led to Denard getting destroyed. We have Rico Miller who hasn't played over Moore (who went from awful to "just bad") this year or Steve Watson who wins the James Rogers Award for playing 19 positions and never complaining once.
Then in this class we have Devin Funchess who is a pass catching threat and a TE/WR...not a blocking TE or even a balanced TE like Koger. And we have AJ Williams who many think is playing on the OL starting next year.
We NEED another TE in this class. Not only for next year, but for down the road when Shane Morris is the QB and the offense uses more TE's rather than slot's like Gallon, Grady, Odoms, etc. who will all be gone.
This "we don't need a TE" stuff has to stop. This bashing Sam Grant. This bashing the thought that ANY sleeper or 3-star TE (or player) is uninspiring has to stop as well.
December 28th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
I'm not saying that Sam Grant is bad, but I'm trying to understand why we need 1. Don't we have 3 scholarship TEs already? The same amount of scholarship quarterbacks on our team.
December 28th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
Well, you often play more than one TE at a time, but you only play one QB at a time. That is one difference.......
December 28th, 2011 at 10:36 PM ^
Exactly. Additionally, none of the ones we have (or will have) are proven, so whereas we won't need all of them, having a few extras make it more likely we find one or two good ones. Also, different tight ends might play in different situations.
December 28th, 2011 at 10:51 PM ^
Gorgeous Borges might disagree with only playing one QB at a time.
December 29th, 2011 at 11:08 AM ^
I'm now repeating what's been said...but #1, in the offense we're trying to run in the future, 3 will not be enough. Especially when one of them is a RS Senior.
Also, you have 3, and not ONE of them has done a thing. I already talked about Moore, Miller and Funchess.
Lastly, how do I get negged when I'm not flamming at all and my post sparked 4-5 insightful comments? What I said was the truth and it got defended by multiple posters. Someone care to explain?
December 28th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
If he's transferring to be closer to his sick father then the NCAA can/will grant a waiver.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
Actually he would count against the 85 player limit even though he may possibly sit out next year. It seems they will seek the waiver to play next year though because he is moving home because his father's health is declining.
December 29th, 2011 at 8:25 AM ^
Well said. Are there any more Gronkowski brothers left?
December 28th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
Did anyone else notice that Josh Garnett tweeted the fourth team on his list is Slippery Rock. I know he's kidding but still, this has to be good for us
December 28th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
Eh, I suppose I wouldn't mind him.
(Just kidding, he's #1 on my wishlist.)
December 28th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
Arnett and Burbridge.......
December 28th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
December 29th, 2011 at 10:04 AM ^
Yes, but...who will throw to them with no more Kirk?
December 28th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
If Arnett wants to go to BCS games andplay in the NFL, he'd go to Michigan.
December 29th, 2011 at 10:13 AM ^
NFL, not necessarily, MSU has churned out a pretty decent amount of NFL receivers

tmcnamara88 Taylor McNamara
December 29th, 2011 at 10:43 AM ^
McNamara was off the radar weeks ago...we had been completely dropped. I believe due to early enrollee issues. He only had one last visit to take anyway.
Grant is the #1 TE recruit right now as those Pharoah Brown rumors were shot down as well.

Aaron Rodgers played for and yes the QB for the packers. I played against him when I was at Santa Rosa JC. He was a stud then too. But Shawn won't be coming back to AA because the units won't transfer over.
