Shane Morris Junior Highlights!
AllenTreiu's youtube account posted the Junior highlights of Shane Morris.
I know a few people said he regressed a little this year, however watching this reel makes me want him on campus as soon as possible...
Great footwork, outstanding pocket presence, and he even takes off a couple of times reminding us all that he's not the next navarre.

Non-OSU threads need an OT tag.

Pretty deep ball. Great athletisism.

I like the move he makes @ 0:33 where he leaps over the guy while running towards the sideline. The defender slumps over after he see's the result of his "missed" opportunity. LOL

Today just keeps getting better and better. Looking forward to a very bright future feels good.

Great footwork and pocket presence. Good deep ball. Biggest weakness I saw was he needs to put more zip on the ball, which will obviously be improved when he gets stronger. The "regression" he experienced this year was because of his pourous O-Line. In the highlights, he was under significant pressure 80% of the time which showed off his pocket presence.

More zip on the ball!? There is a video out there where he throws 55 yards from his knees and like 75 from his feet. He has a cannon for an arm!
December 20th, 2011 at 5:55 PM ^
but no, he cuts right and goes in for the TD. I like. Very much.

Like his guts, but as a QB you gotta go OB. Borges will preach that.

Who said he has regressed? Because of the one "average" showing in the combine the other day?
He only had two under average games this year, against Orchard Lake (meh) and against Cass Tech, the school we take a defensive player or two from every year.
He still has good to 5star footwork, smarts, athleticism, a huge arm, and wait until he is throwing to the recievers at Michigan.
Regressed... pssh.

I don't think it was because of the combine. Actually, I didn't even know he had an "average" combine. I thought he was supposed to have looked pretty good. I think he "regressed" because he didn't have the stellar year that many expected him to have. He had just a slightly better year than his sophomore year. He apparently does have a tendancy to make some poor decisions, but apartently he just doesn't have a very good team, which also makes it a bit hard to evaluate. No other playmakers with him; abosolutely no O-line, and a bunch of dropped passes. But as you say, all the measurables are there.

I got to see Shane play a couple times this year—for the aforementioned OLSM and Cass Tech games—and I'd agree with your assessment. He pretty much put the offense on his back, and when he wasn't getting any help he had the tendency to force the issue a bit. His O-line gave up a ton of pressure against good teams and there wasn't another player on offense who could take the pressure off Morris. When he had open receivers, he almost always found the right man, and usually the pass looked quite nice getting there.
When he's got talent around him—like he's had when playing at summer camps, where he's excelled—I expect he'll be very, very good. Great arm strength, good accuracy, and decent fundamentals, though those sometimes broke down as games wore on. Get him coached up and he'll be just fine.
December 21st, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
I think he'll do just fine behind Kalis and Co. throwing it to Darboh and handing it off to a senior Fitz (if Shane is playing by then).
December 21st, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
Wait til Borges is done with him. He'll br cerebral in how he dominates defenses.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Did i watch the wrong video or did he actually hurdle someone at :28 seconds? How is this not getting more play? Our QB commit just hurdled someone

Saw that, at around the 34 second mark
December 20th, 2011 at 7:26 PM ^
I like the defender's expression on the ground after he gets hurtled
December 20th, 2011 at 6:07 PM ^
a man. He runs faster than Mallett, strong arm like Mallett, and is not afraid of contact. He made great DO throws across his body. This kid is tremendous.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Really like Shane, but Mallet's arm coming out of high school was just.... he had an M110 howitzer attached to his arm. It was unreal.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
Not sure about Mallett, but did you that video of Morris throwing the ball 80 yards in the air?
December 21st, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
He also threw it at least 40 yards from his knees to.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
I really liked the pass where he rolled right,. stopped, and threw left. I think he will do fine at Michigan, and I think he will have a stellar senior year.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
Good wheels but that three-quarters/all over the place throwing motion could use some seasoning. Nevertheless, a real talent, and I'm reminded of Andy Dalton.
December 20th, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
This kid is awesome. He has Henne's arm and Forcier's legs (maybe not that fast, but not far off). He at least has enough legs to get himself out of trouble. Good looking throwing motion, nice touch, great deep ball. Probably the most polished QB prospect we've had since Henne, and more mobile.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:19 PM ^
What about Ryan Mallett...?
December 20th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
I love it! Last years highlight may seem better cause we all knew how old this kid was, but I like everything I see. Even in the so called bad games he had, he looked like a pro out there.
December 20th, 2011 at 7:09 PM ^
No complaints other than the sample here was mostly dominated by Shotgun formations which is probably due to the fact the poster above said his O-Line was bad, he didn't look like he had a whole ton of time to make throws but man did he make the most out of them, I can't wait to have this guy slinging the ball around at The Big House.
December 20th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
More impressed by the video than I was expecting. Already excited to see how he'll progress in the next 1 1/2 years before he plays for UM.
STRENGTHS as I see them:
Accuracy
Quick release
Mobility - much more than I expected - very excited about this
Agressive play - seeking contact or the extra yards
Throwing on the run
Weaknesses
Boring name
No "doesn't tie his shoelaces" gimmick
Throwing mechanics looks pretty sloppy to me, but that could also be because he was throwning while moving much of this video
CONCLUSION:
5 or 6 Big Ten Championships
December 20th, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
I had no idea he had legs like that. He ain't Denard, but if there's a lane and the pocket breaks down, those big strides really eat up the ground in a hurry.
Everyone who has scouted him this year has come to the same conclusion. He's shown no "regression" at all. The rest of his team has. The fact that his team got worse around them and he still took them to a close game against Cass Tech shows a few things about his ability. Like, it is amazing.

His highlight video doesn't even have a blaring rap soundtrack!
Seriously though, he looks like if he gets more than 2 seconds to throw he can pick apart a defense. Love his quickness and pocket presence. His arm is crazy good too, if you haven't seen the video of his training session, he can throw it DEEP.
So excited for him to get on campus and compete. GO BLUE!
December 20th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
Wow. He's going to be awesome. I enjoyed those five minutes worth of clips way more than the Beef O'Brady Bowl of Misfits.
Also, his tweets are equally impressive.
December 20th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
He's really tall, needs to put on a few pounds.
Frankly, I'm not in love with his windup, that needs to be tinkered with a bit. He also has a habit of putting a lot of air under the ball, that's not going be as effective on the college level. But it does look like he's capable of zipping the ball in, he's going to need some coaching on that and work on ball placement, the video has almost everything up high.
He's a much better runner than I expected from the descriptions as a 'pro style' passer.
Looks like a good prospect, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him redshirt, maybe not with our depth chart.
December 21st, 2011 at 7:13 AM ^
throw a frozen rope or drop it over the defenders head? some of those throws had to be like that. passing lane was covered. I thought it was impressive for a youngin.

For those saying he puts too much air under the ball, and, doesn't have enough zip on it... It's called touch. It's not easy to teach and he has it already. At a ridiculous level considering he's still early in his development.
December 21st, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
it's not touch when he's under throwing to wide open guys who are taller than the defenders and letting them make a play, some of the passes did have nice touch, some were just relying on the recievers making adjustments. Highlights are never a good indicator on how accurate a guy is, need to see his incompletions too. But when the reciever has to stop his route and wait on the ball, it's not a good pass even if it does go for a TD due to a lack of competition.

His accuracy while on the run is impressive... most impressive

The dude is just too good, can't wait to see him play in about 4 years, my early Heisman vote.
December 22nd, 2011 at 6:59 AM ^
he is pressured quite often. I cant wait to see him behind Maggs and Garnett. Then lets see how good he REALLY is.
