OT- NFL/Lions Open Thread
The board seems pretty slow today so I was hoping we could have an all encompassing NFL games thread. If not it can solely be devoted to Lions-Raiders at 4. Hopefully we pull out another win on our way to a playoff berth.
Right now the Chiefs are beating the undefeated Packers 6-0 in the third quarter. If GB loses this game, there is a pretty good chance they rest starters against the Lions in week 17.
Bears are beating Seattle 14-7, about to start the second half.
A certain heavily-covered game should be on CBS in most markets, starting at 4:15. Please discuss it in a reasonable way. No reason to bring up anything but on-field play. Please prove we can have nice things.
Who's watching football today?

Broncos running game looking very strong during this first drive. They're on the doorstep
December 18th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
Huge run by Tebow. 7-0. Can't be stopped.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
LOL at Patriots not knowing NFL rules.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
"not knowing"? The rules don't apply to the Patriots, Roger told me so. Remember the whole cheating fiasco from a few years ago? Quietly swept under the rug by Goodell (burned tapes anyone? I would've liked that 30 for 30...).

Cardinals down 7 early. BIg for the lions
December 18th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
The only thing that's big for the lions at this point is waking the f up and keeping the flags off the field.
EDIT* Literally 5 seconds after I posted this we got our second horse collar in 3 plays and 3rd flag in 3 plays. followed by a TD. I'm embarrassed of this team at this point.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:32 PM ^
Penalties killing us early.
Again...
December 18th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
How do the Lions fans here like their head coach?
December 18th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
I'm happy with the overall direction of the organization. However the entire staff needs to deal with the penalty/dirty play problem. I realize there at a lot of young players on the team and they haven't had time to gel as a unit, but this needs to get corrected.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
Lions cant defend a reverse. Vanden Bosch loses contain every time. He plays way to aggressive.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
Defensive TD for the Eagles against the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets.
7-0
December 18th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
Lions getting 9 wins, Packers lose, Colts win, this is gonna be great
December 18th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
Wow, this Broncos-Pats game is a shootout. We may have a barn burner.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
Yea, I realized the Patriots defense was bad, but this is crazy. They can't seem to even get the Broncos to 3rd down.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Megatron. Tie game. Lets see something on defense now.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Megatron what a beast! Touchdown!
December 18th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Oops, Raiders let Megatron get behind them, TD Lions.
December 18th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
Broncos and Lions step up on defense and force punts
Eagles up 14-0 on the Jets.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:09 PM ^
Lions DB's can't wrap up a receiver, give up a 43 yard catch and run. 14-7
December 18th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
So far, the Lions are making Carson Palmer look like an All-Pro.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:12 PM ^
This NE D is the worst D I think I have ever seen. They need to go out and get some playmakers.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
I didn't pay much attention earlier in the season, but are the Patriots' defensive problems because they didn't start out with great players or the huge number of injuries they have had. Considering they probably have 10+ draft picks this year, they should be able to rebulid with some young defensive players this year.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
I think Belichik is planning on trading those picks for 20 picks next year. It's part of a grand scheme to have every first round pick one year.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
Yeah, I think that's what we said last April. Didn't happen.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
Touchdown Lions. Hopefully, we can take a tie game to halftime. We're a second half team.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
Times like this, I hate not living in Mich anymore...can only follow the Lions on gamecast, and have to hear the media slurping of Tebow live (though admittingly it hasn't been so bad this game
December 18th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
and you are my hero
December 18th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
Brady sneaks for TD, Pats up 24-16, 1:12 left in first half.
17 pts in 2nd quarter.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
Don't worry, the Broncos just found the Patriots' videographer in the rafters. Should even out quickly....
December 18th, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
Considering their defense can't stop anyone, they'd better be able to score.
December 18th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
lolDenver.
Edit: Before I saw that the player was injured. Now do they go for the endzone or the fieldgoal?
December 18th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
Broncos fumble a PUNT with :05 seconds left on their on five yard line.... Maybe the Wonderlic is important after all...
December 18th, 2011 at 5:55 PM ^
Pats D held, then Broncs D held, but special teams muffed Zoltan's punt, and NE gets a FG before the half. 27-16.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
CBS just showed a monkey in a cowboy outfit riding a dog. So much win
December 18th, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
Man, it is nice to have a QB. This team is still a year away from being serious title contenders, but they have the most important piece--the quarterback.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
No push from the line 2 plays in a row. Manball fail.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
Why the hell did Schwartz not challenge the spot on the Smith carry on 3rd and inches? He was laying on top of the pile and held the ball out forward--before touching the ground--and thereby having enough forward progress for the first down. And the mark on the Burleson catch in the previous play was laughable.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:44 PM ^
I think the larger issue is: Burn down this offensive line and start over. This is why, for example, I never get the love for Raiola. He's an OK pass-blocker but neither he nor anyone else on that line can move tissue paper aside in the running game. Except for Cherilus, who will get called for a holding penalty should he ever succeed.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:35 PM ^
Well, it seems that the Angry Michigan Secondary Hating God has relocated a little bit south to Detroit.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:37 PM ^
East.
/nitpick
December 18th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Bah, I knew I should have checked a map first. Detroit is south of my hometown so I naturally always think of it as south.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
Suspect geography is suspect
December 18th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Anybody know if there have been unusual backfield injuries for the Eagles this fall?
December 18th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
Sack, fumble, Raiders TD.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Burleson's drop, Stafford's overthrow and subsequent fumble...this team is a year away. This is like watching Denard last year. Good QB, but too many costly mistakes at the wrong time.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Stafford lacks pocket presence, had plenty of time there but derps it away on the 2.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
That water you hear running is the Lions pissing away a golden opportunity to virtually lock up a playoff berth.
December 18th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
Has never had a punt return of more than 26 yards on him (in the NFL)
