Start of Bowl Season Open Thread/New Mexico/Potato/New Orleans Bowl
We'll see how it goes. If there's a lot of interest, or a lot of other posts shoving it down the front page, we can do one for each bowl. If it's a slow day, this can take care of all 3 bowl games today. It's not like it's the Rose Bowl or anything today. Though I am anxious to see the offense of Temple. I hear their OC is pretty good. And SDS later should look familiar. Ohio/Utah ST? Yeah, I got nothing. But that doesn't have to matter in these threads. It's for the fun, the love of college football. And werid JHackney pictures. So come one, come all, come Blue Dragon, and let's enjoy the cheesy greatness/awfulness of the bowl season.
Edit: We've had 3 new threads since kickoff, and 10 still below it on the front page. I'm not bumping stuff for a new thread for each of these bowls. Someone might on New Year's Day or something. If a mod wants separate threads for these, be my guest, just seems a waste of space. If something groundbreaking happens that bumps this off the front page, we probably won't care about the bowls anymore anyway.
First game going well..I gave the points. We'll see about Utah State and SDS later.

I totally forgot there was College Football on.
I'll take it. If I have to hear about Chris Paul or Dwight Howard again this weekend, I'm going to scream.
Give me the Domino's Pasta Bread Bowl over the "news" SportsCenter has been reporting all week.

As a MAC sports geek. I'm pumped for today. In the Ohio/Utah State game the only one you had nothing for, watch it because Ohio's starting QB is Mickey Tettleton's son and Ohio has been one of the most exciting teams to watch in the MAC this year.

What I'm talkin' about!

MAC put on a show today!

SDSt is having a come back.

Is there any way to see every pick for the other people entries in ESPN Bowl Mania? I'm in w/a small group of friends and who like to know who to root against without having to check before every single game
December 17th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
No, on ESPN the individual games do not lock until the game actually starts. So theoretically you could change confidence points, or winners up until game time. Therefore, ESPN only lets you see the picks of the games underway or finished.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
I wonder if you get free underwear and socks for attending the game actually....if corporate sponsors really played the bowls right, you could do the tour and gets tons of good stuff.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
WHo will come out on top in the epic battle for 64th place?
December 17th, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
Curling on Channel 9 if any of our Canadian friends want to chime in.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
That's just rude!
December 17th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
I'm out.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:09 PM ^
I'll take college football any way I can get. There is nothing better than this sport. While they don't appear to be good teams, it could turn out to be a great game.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
Gameday didn't come out for the New Mexico Bowl??
December 17th, 2011 at 2:14 PM ^
I love watching Benard Peirce run, he's just an animal. He should have a big day.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
This is the Temple I'm used to seeing. Honestly if they played up to their potential they'd probably win the MAC easy but they just have habit of blowing games in conference. Some of their fans like to blame this on MAC trying to screw them for being a football-only members. Crazies exist at every level of football people.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:40 PM ^
The Wyoming fan in the barrel and helmet. I wish you could unsee things.
EDIT: ....and Temple scores again. Wyoming's defense does not have an answer for Pierce other than leaving a running lane open.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
I like Bernard Pierce. And...interception Owls!
December 17th, 2011 at 2:52 PM ^
That this game will be over by halftime.
Go Owls!
December 17th, 2011 at 2:52 PM ^
Despite that interception I've been pertty impressed with Wyoming's QB so far. He's playing well beyond where most true freshmen are at this point. Could make them a team to watch in the Mountain West in the next few years.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
.....and TD Temple. Summary of game thus far: Temple.
December 17th, 2011 at 2:56 PM ^
You know the best part of bowls might be watching all these sponsers advertisements that you see at no other point throughout the year. I'm starting to think that if we pool our money together we could have the mgoblog bowl
December 17th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
Quarterback Chris Coyer had an offer from Ohio (the Tressel version) in 2009 but sensibly went to Temple. This is our kind of quarterback.

Anything good on Netflix?
December 17th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
My ESPN bracket is off to a good start!
December 17th, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
I was interested in Bruins-Flyers on NHL Network but that's a blowout too. No good games on.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
I only had Temple as 11 confidence even though I knew the MAC is an extra strong conference this year. So I adjusted and moved Ohio up to 35 and SDSU up to 34. THEY BETTER GODDAMN WIN. Or I'm going to be very unhappy. Go big or go home!
December 17th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Interestingly, this Wyoming team beat San Diego State this year (as did a certain team from Ann Arbor).
December 17th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
...I am sure that they've seen games like this before, so this isn't exactly new at University Field.
EDIT: Wyoming threatening...kind of. They go for it on 4th and 2, only to be 4th and 3 moments later, but wait....what? TD Wyoming!
December 17th, 2011 at 3:23 PM ^

Owls should have stayed with the blitz package on the 4th down.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:20 PM ^
Nice uptempo offense there, Wyoming.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
The trips set of doom!
December 17th, 2011 at 3:23 PM ^
Both uprights. That was awesome.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:23 PM ^
The extra point hit both uprights. wut.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
Teams are a combined 4/4 going for it on fourth downs in the first half. Coaches are just coddling favors from the blogging crowd for next season
December 17th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
Boom. Owl'd.
28.
December 17th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
28-7 Temple. Didn't even have a chance to blink.

NDS up 14-7. This is a good matchup.
December 17th, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
Did I just hear fans in the Temple/Wyoming game singing "It's a Small World"?
December 17th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
....but the winner of the Gildan New Mexico Bowl gets a trip to Six Flags unfortunately.
I think the winner of the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl gets one LTL shipment anywhere in the continental US for free.
December 17th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
I tried googling "Temple small world" "Wyoming small world" "New Mexico small world" to no avail...
I gotsa know what is the deal??
