Pharoah Brown Receives Visit from Mattison
I know it is just a message board post, but a 247 board has noted that Mattison recently visited Brown in his home.
I'm on board with this. I think we delivered a message by dropping him, but ultimately, kids make mistakes and everybody deserves a 2nd chance.

thanks, you just blew my theory out of the water. i thought he loved Ohio which is why he committed early.
December 15th, 2011 at 12:08 PM ^
Nobody is forced to comitt early. Look around, take visits, have fun, hook up with the SEC "hostesses".
But once you make a choice and comitt, then stick with it.

Thank you for sharing my life story.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:30 AM ^
If he ends up in our class, great. If not, we'll be fine.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:40 AM ^
I would rather have Pharaoh Brown as one of our TE's than either Skip Holtz or Sam Grant. I hope the coaches can find a way to get him back on board.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
Skip Holtz is a coach at East Carolina or South Florida or something like that.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
It's J.P. Holtz.
December 15th, 2011 at 12:01 PM ^
I would also rather have Pharoah Brown over Skip Holtz.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:42 AM ^
I think we sent Mattison because we want to close on PB and get him back in once and for all.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
It was Mattison who got Brown to commit in the first place (as DE). I am sure Brown was overwhelmed. (A) It was an offer from Michigan and (B) the guy that was pitching the offer was the former DC of the Baltimore Ravens, a DC from a NC team at Florida, etc. etc. He stewed on things, probably wanted to take some trips (What 18-year old wouldn't want to be wined and dined?), the staff got pissed, Brown became defensive, cooler heads did not prevails at the time and Brown de-commited. I still think he really likes Michigan, especially after how the season turned out, given that Michigan is one of his best options, if not THE best. I can see him being a part of this class but if he, in fact, wants to be he will have to re-commit soon because there isn't exactly a whole lot of room left.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
Brown never said he decommitted. He said Michigan no longer considered a commit because he visited, so there is that.
December 15th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
but when you are told by the coaching staff, to whom you did make a commitment, that visiting other schools is a no-no, and in doing so you would no longer be considered a Michigan commit, making a choice to visit another school is, essentially, like decommitting. Yes, he may not have actually stated "I decommit" from Michigan but in practice he decommitted when he took that trip.
December 15th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
I am not disagree with you in terms of his actions, but he said on twitter when people kept asking him and badgering him about it. I am just relaying his words.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:43 AM ^
It's too bad there isn't a recruiting guru on staff at MGo that could initiate a conversation with Pharoah so the unwashed masses could learn a little more about this situation.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:47 AM ^
a) You have stated repeatedly that you don't care about recruiting.
b) You have said that you start caring about recruiting once a kid commits to Michigan.
c) Pharaoh Brown is not committed to Michigan.
d) Calling out the staff of MGoBlog seems and expressing your disappointment seems kind of silly, especially coming from someone who claims not to care about recruits that aren't committed to Michigan.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:02 AM ^
You see, Magnus, I'm not one of the unwashed masses, so I really don't care what is going on with Brown. I'm making an objective point.
Also, since I'm not one of the unwashed masses, according to Sandusky's new attorney, I'm not a juvenile delinquent.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:45 AM ^
Yes plz. The coaches, if they were to accept a recommitment from Brown, wouldn't have sent any contradicting messages to the team. Brown visited, his spot was no longer reserved, and multiple offers went out to other TEs. If you take a visit the coaches will actively try to fill the spit you once held.
That is fair, clear, and not to be fucked with.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
sorry, if this kid gets another chance then Diggs should be reconsidered big time
December 15th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
Diggs was visited by Michigan's coaches recently. He's being given a second chance.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
When did this happen?!?! Did I miss a thread somewhere or is this something that just happened? Because as far as I have heard it was the whole, "Well you went to Cal when we came to see you, thanks but know thanks"
December 15th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
It happened shortly after the missed visit. I think Diggs took his visit to Cal the weekend before last, and Michigan's coaches visited on the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Something like that. I'm not positive on dates, but that's what the mods at Rivals said - Michigan is still pursuing Diggs.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
Hmmm, that can only be good news, but do we still have a shot? Have you heard any reaction from that visit or anything about it?
December 15th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
I have not heard a reaction, and I still don't think Michigan has much of a chance at Diggs. He's always been a longshot.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
Yea, I figure it won't change much, but hey, we can all hope for big things, or just hope he doesn't land at Ohio
December 15th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
While I would love Diggs, that is a completely different situation. Diggs aparently didn't show up for his in home visit. The coaches traveled all the way to MD to meet with him, and he was on a visit elsewhere.
If a kid doesn't have the respect and sense of responsibility to notify the coaches that he won't be able to keep his in-home... that's crossing a line.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
Unless there was some miscommunication scheduling an appointment and totally blowing off the other side shows serious character flaws. It speaks poorly to his trustworthiness. It makes him seem like a completely inconsiderate individual and I am not sure I would want someone like that on my team. In the words of Bo "The team, the team, the team." It's about the "we" and not the "me". Selfish players only hurt the team, no matter how talented athletically. Just look at players like TO, Chad Ocho, etc.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:52 AM ^
If it works out I would still love to have him in this class.
We let Cam Gordon try out WR before switching him to defense.
MSU got Tom Gholston by telling him that he would be the first 6'8" LB ever, then put him at DE after one year.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
The coaches don't have a problem with him playing TE. They have a problem with him secretly visiting Oregon.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:57 AM ^
I guess I didn't really have a point, I just like referring to Gholston as Tom whenever I can.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:58 AM ^
(ps I went back and upvoted some of your old posts to get your karma back up to 2)
December 15th, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
Thanks. Some people neg me just for the heck of it, even though I'm the nicest guy around. I just don't understand it.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
What was your photo before BG got drafted?
December 15th, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
IIRC, it was Miranda Kerr.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:23 AM ^
So it had me wondering what it used to be.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
Fess up, for a long time it was also Boubacar Cissoko, wasn't it?
December 15th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
It was Cissoko for a while during the 2008 season because I liked his kick returning skills. Then I changed it when he acted so cocky during the ND game. I'm not a fan of players acting like that. That's when I switched to Miranda Kerr, and then I switched to Graham a couple days after the 2010 NFL Draft.
And that's the history of my avatars.
Tomorrow, watch for the detailed history of my breakfast routines.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:40 AM ^
Well, you weren't the only one who was rooting for Cissoko. I was there too. Very sad how it all fell apart for him.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
I love you Magnus. And everything you stand for. In all seriousness, your insight is appreciated.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:29 AM ^
Thanks!
December 15th, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Very much agreed! This board wouldn't be the same without a few posters here and you are definitely one of them!
December 15th, 2011 at 12:01 PM ^
that link under magnus' posts is an entire blog that he runs, not just posts. i kick it over there when things get a little too insane over here, like always.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:32 AM ^
Those bastards. I usually upvote you (sometimes for content, sometimes for the heck of it). I appreciate your insight & perspective.
December 15th, 2011 at 2:49 PM ^
even a year until Tommy got moved to DE. Pretty sure it was halfway through the season. Either way, your point stands.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:03 AM ^
When I said punishment earlier, that was too strong a word...maybe 'repercussions' would be more appropriate.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
his other visit(s). He could be a great one for Michigan so I'm happy to hear the coaches still want him here. At the same time, I 100% support them for taking the stand they did. It sends the right message to all the recruits.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
Sam Webb addresses Brown's status. May not be an easy re-entry
December 15th, 2011 at 11:22 AM ^
Could you briefly summarize what he said? I can't listen right now. Thanks.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
I checked out RCMB the other day to see the Sevon Pittman meltdown for a minute and a couple posters mentioned MSU being close with PB. Anyone have any insight on how interested he is in going to MSU? Keeping him out of a rivals' hands may be enough motivation for the coaches to give him a second chance.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
MSU recruits nationally, so proximity would rule PB out. Maybe if he was from Texas, or Florida.
