Jordan Payton apparently very impressed w ND
According to TVH and tweets and retweets of Payton, he is loving Notre Dame. Commitment watch may be put to a halt.
Lets just hope he is saying he likes it bc he is there and not bc he actually really likes it!! I think its safe to say that many people have been anticipating Payton to commit to M this week. if we lose out on him, our WR targets suddenly get a little more concerning as i think he was the best of the bunch.
Anyone know when Madaris or Darboh are thinking of announcing?

It's natural for him to be impressed. ND is doing it's Job recruiting, but don't they have 3 wr's committed already
October 24th, 2011 at 12:58 AM ^
Kelly brought in 4 QBs in his 2010 class, so I don't think 4 WR is too drastic.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
Have you ever heard a recruit say he's unimpressed by a visit?
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
You mean 18 year-old guys are supposed to be impressed by a free trip to a college campus with women hitting on them and then watching a football game in front of thousands of screaming fans?
October 24th, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
Getting hit on by ND undergrads isn't necessarily a positive for your average heterosexual male...

Haven't heard anybody talk about Urban Dictionary in years but I'll bring it back for this opportune moment.

When you've been under the dome so long you'll get dome from anything
G: "Yo dat chick is HOTT."
Ror: "Nahhhh brah, take your domer goggles off." (g takes domer goggles off) G: "Oh yeah, you're right, that bitch is busted; I've just been at ND too long." Ror: "Word." |

I can imagine he'd have been disappointed if he went to State College last weekend to see Penn State - Alabama.
He wasn't just late, he was 6 weeks late.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Well, Tom Gholson wasn't very happy with his Michigan visit. Or so I've heard.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:29 PM ^
when can we get a Tom Gholston shirt?
October 24th, 2011 at 12:43 PM ^
If the student section doesn't do a chant involving the name Tom when they come to town next year, I'm going to be super disappointed.
October 24th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
Door 1: "You're assuming he won't be in prison at that point"
Door 1.2: a joke stemming off that about how he will just be leaving prison Friday evening and therefore back on the field come Saturday.
Door 2: the high road, something about entering the draft?
Door 3: something extremely low road about attempting to injure him as a mob, then immediate guilt because we're hopefully on a higher level than that
Addendum: I really wish we could get Yost-like crowd participation/synchronization in the Big House. That would be awesome. It would make us even more fearful, methinks. There are glimpses of it, like during the wave (when people aren't f'ing it up like earlier this year).
Second addendum with caveats: Yost has been disappointing this year compared to previous, but it hasn't been conference play yet. Here's hoping it improves.

he's apparently like "ready to commit" impressed with his visit.
ND's ability to continually sell kids on their program despite being mediocre for 2 decades is both impressive and hard to fathom.
October 24th, 2011 at 12:16 AM ^
Sometimes I wonder if they're buying.

i dont think my reply worked...but he told TVH that he is unsure about his decision and announcing tuesday or not.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
it was information people would want to see and think about.
he told TVH that he isnt sure if hes going to announce this week or not.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
i'll be completely shocked if anybody who wasn't already planning to commit to nd, commits after watching nd's craptastic performance in that completely pulseless stadium.
nd's gameday experience has gotten consistently worse over the last 20 years, and its pretty much awful at this point. the stadium is a morgue.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
the impact of a win or a loss during a recruit's visit. It seems to have basically no impact on a kid's decision.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
i guess, the issue isn't that nd lost per se, its that they looked like a very mediocre football team that is going to be mediocre for a long time. i can't imagine that recruits watched that game, and thought that looks like a team that's just a year or two away from a national title.
i also can't imagine that anybody went to that game and was impressed by the intensity of the gameday experience. if they've been to happy valley, madison, columbus or just about anywhere in the sec, they've seen much more impressive crowds.

a friendly reminder to mr. payton: notre dame sucks.
you'll thank me later.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
He doesn't need a reminder. He's going Blue.

I'm very impressed with how USC kicked ND's ass......oh wait....no I'm not! They're notre dame!
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Tom... I mean Will Gholston's visit to Michigan did not go very well apparently.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
I think watching Rees and Crist (I know Crist is leaving) DERP around for 4 quarters doesn't engender much faith in Payton about the future of ND football. My guess is that he was impressed because, yes, it is a pretty campus with a nice atmosphere and the ND name still has some cache. But when you look at UM compared to ND, I can't imagine there is much competition.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
I don't think Michigan fans should feel very confident at the moment.
At this point, I'm not even sure it's a good thing if he announces on Tuesday.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
I actually had the misfortune of being on the ND campus yesterday afternoon/evening, and while there may have been a bigger agglomeration of douchebags somewhere else in the world, I seriously doubt it.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
Columbus?
October 24th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
Fair point.
October 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
I'm surprised any parent wants their child to commit to ND, so Kelly can berate them on national television. Also surprised that NBC is allowed to have the camera on Kelly after a bad play by ND. You'd think they would tell the camera crew to not show Kelly when he's in beet red mode.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
Must be those helmets.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
Yeah I saw that on his twitter... I still think he's blue.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
The real question is......
Does his facebook account still say "University of Michigan student"?

October 23rd, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
Payton just wants to heighten the suspense for Tues. When the glow of this visit wears off (hopefully soon), he'll realize that Michigan is the place to be.
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
aren't even sure he'll make it off campus without committing. I hope things flip back but it's not looking fantastic at the moment.
October 24th, 2011 at 12:05 AM ^
I think he's just enjoying the love and will be Blue after he can get back home and clear his head
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
Remember when everyone freaked out that Dee Hart said his visit to Auburn was a 9 out of 10, and then committed to UM like two weeks later? Hate to bring up bad memories, but being impressed does not always mean a commitment.
October 23rd, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
Dee Hart who ? He is not part of the UM program. Fvck him.
October 23rd, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
You stay classy.
October 24th, 2011 at 9:36 AM ^
Wow thats kind of a dick move man, the kid did commit to the program but when o' I dont know..EVERY COACH that recruited him was fired and an offensive system change was occuring he decided he was not a good fit here anymore and was classy about it and did not string it out.
October 25th, 2011 at 3:29 AM ^
I don't begrudge Dee Hart one bit for looking elsewhere as we were in turmoil and he couldn't wait for us to figure it out since he was enrolling early but it's quite annoying when people always say he wasn't a good fit here anymore because of an offensive system change.
The kid ended up going to Alabama, not Oregon. Not exactly a "spread or die" recruit.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
Not the best example for this situation...
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
stop being a panic mongerer
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
Yeah, and they took three last year too I think. Good ones.
Jordan - do you want to be in a mess of dudes at ND where your PT is shared among a lot of guys, or at UM where you're one of two guys over two years? Also - who at ND is going to throw you the ball?
October 23rd, 2011 at 11:05 PM ^
The same thing could be said about Michigan. We haven't been to particularly impressive through the air this year. Plus we tend to spread the around a lot.
October 23rd, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
He is only going to overlap Denard for one season - during which he may redshirt. Then, a year with senior devin and then. Morris. So who cares that we haven't aired it out under a system that will not be in place for most of his career.
October 24th, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
When Jordan (assuming a RS.. considering we return Stonum Gallon Roundtree and Jackson next year) is a r-Fr he will be one of basically 3 WR on the roster. Throwing him the ball will be either..
Devin Gardner - rs Jr with 2 years of experience
6'4 with laser rocket arm and Vince Young legs and Brett Favre improvisation
Shane Morris - Fr 5 star uber recruit who basically throws Chuck Norris footballs.
And all this assumes that Gunner Kiel doesnt decide that UM >>>>>>> everyone elswe
October 23rd, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
some good insight here on everyone's part. We'll just have to wait until Tuesday to find out the news. it's not the end of the world if he doesn't Go Blue! Plus, signing day is still 3+ months away. A lot can happen between now and then.
