Too bad the schools aren't closer to each other. The trash-talking possibilities are endless. Could you imagine how hilarious it would be if this happened on either side in the Pioneer-Huron game?

"you got beat up by a girl" line. classic... it would never die.

I'm just glad my thoughts these days don't immediately wonder if she'd be willing to change her mind about WMU

This is a really great story for a town and community that have had major drug issues over the past few years. I graduated from there in '02 and it is nothing like it used to be today. Great to have a positive story come out of that town.

I concur, class of '07 here, nice to see a positive article coming out of Pinckney for a change.

Class of '97 here. I hadn't heard that things had gone downhill like that in Pinckney. Too bad.

I'm having trouble embedding with their code, so I don't think it's going to work:

impressive, it wasnt even a short field goal. 31 yards with a wind.
also to be noted, she is a michigan fan.

Great story for this girl and her teammates. My senior year in high school we had a girl play on the team who was all-state in track and an honor student. She found the biggest problem to be learning the terminology and plays. I thought it was interesting this girl said the same thing, "I know some play names, but I don't know what they're doing," she said. "Before, I mean, I thought in football you just run the ball up the field. But with all the plays ... I have so much respect for those guys, every single one of them, to know all the stuff they know."
Still, it's great that she seized the opportunity she was given.

The grand blanc coach is the biggest joke of a coach ever. He single handedly was the reason they lost the game, but good for that girl and that truly is a great story

A couple years older than me, we had a girl kicking for the football team ... she was also named homecoming queen! She didn't kick a game-winning FG that game, but it was still awesome to see her up there getting crowned in front of everyone in her football uniform.
Also we wore maize & blue. Extra awesome.

There was a segment on this the other night on the 11 o'clock news on Fox 2 in Detroit. I normally hate local news but I was glad I caught this story.
She seems like a really sweet girl and was truly surprised to be elected homecoming queen, and started to tear up when talking about how she was asked to come out at halftime, seemed like she felt genuinely humbled and honored to be recognized by her peers like that. She stands in stark contrast - in a good way - to the typical images most people associate with a homecoming queen, of some spoiled brat with a sense of entitlement.
Really heartwarming story that she also kicked the game-winner, good for her. :)

She kicked the winning field goal that resulted in a win with 9 points.
This brings the question to mind - did she make 2 FG earlier in the game, or did she (or another kicker) miss an extra point?

Kicking blue balls.

She missed an earlier extra point.
I was reading posts on one of the news sites that posted the story and some moron was stipulating that this was not a "game winning" field goal because it wasn't done at the end of the game. This guy couldn't be more wrong. It doesn't matter at which point in the game the points are scored. The touchdown, field goal, home run, run batted in, goal, etc. that is one greater than the opponent becomes the game-winning points. Vincent Smith's rushing TD in Michigan's first possession vs. Minnesota in the 58-0 blowout represent the game-winning TD since Minnesota could not score one of their own.
This is a great story.

It's possible that this kick was the only kick by any kicker on her team that game. Perhaps they scored a touchdown and they went for 2 and failed before her FG.
Does highschool have 2 point conversions?

Every state I've ever lived in had 2pt attempts in High School. You seem them attempted FAR more often in high school then any other level because very few teams have a consistent FG kicker.

Glad to see that the barriers which have traditionally kept women out of the supposed "male" sports are thinning in some districts. Doesn't Detroit Pershing have a girl on the O-line?

What's the NCAA's stance on female field goal kickers?

...Pinckney beat Grand Blanc is huge for the Pirates and an absolute embarrassment for Justice Hayes' alma mater.
