Urban Meyer to [Penn State?]
This story talks about him meeting with PSU's president and AD when he was in State College recently as part of his gig with ESPN. Wonder how the Nuts would react to this?

I hope Urban keeps hanging with the family, Schiano goes to Penn State and OSU keeps wonder boy Luke.
September 27th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
It's funny because OSU thinks he's going to Columbus next year for sure.
September 27th, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
I honestly still think Golden finds his way to PSU. I don't think Miami will be his final stop.
September 27th, 2011 at 7:59 PM ^
September 27th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
I'd have to think that guy would have been gone by now if PSU hadn't basically promised him the job after Jo Pa finally leaves.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Contracts or it never happened...
September 27th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
JoePa will never leave. If his bodily functions stop, they'll just stuff him and wheel him around the sidelines like Weekend at Bernie's.
September 27th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
Isn't that what's been going on for the past 5-10 years anyway?

September 27th, 2011 at 4:12 PM ^
tOSU keeps Fickel and we continue to get their best recruits!
But.. I doubt he goes to Penn State!
September 27th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
Once the coaching situation is settled and the additional NCAA sanctions are determined to be minimal, UM will be back to fighting MSU over the 4 good players from Michigan and Ohio's JV squad.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
So Penn State would go from one coach who's going to die on the sideline to another who retired before he died on the sideline?
September 27th, 2011 at 4:32 PM ^
That's a morbid perspective, but I can't deny its accuracy...
September 27th, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
I just don't see him coaching quite yet. He will have only taken a year off, and all the family/health issues still exist. I'm sure he's weighing all of his options and keeping open channels, but I just don't see it happening right now. On the other hand, if Joe Pa coaches like two more years and then retires, I could see Meyer coming then.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
I don't think it's too far fetched. I think Meyer would prefer to coach in the Big Ten next time around, and and only OSU and PSU would make sense for him at this point in time in the conference.
September 27th, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
If he was at PSU, that school would own....
September 27th, 2011 at 5:53 PM ^
They would for sure own Indiana.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:22 PM ^
I'd MUCH prefer Meyer at PSU than TSIO
September 27th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
Why would they even create a PANIC button that dosn't give you pictures of purple ponies?
September 27th, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
Wouldn't he prefer to go to a B1G team that already recruits nationally?
September 27th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
Sparty?
September 27th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
Beat me to it! It never gets old.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
God I hope not. At least Saban wasn't fooled for long.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
he said his idol was Joe Pa even though he has a drawing of Woody on the wall in his man cave on ESPN.
September 28th, 2011 at 1:28 AM ^
Meyer can't have a drawing or pic of a current coach on his wall, at least for public consumption, or it would be seen as cronyism or a conflict of interest whenever he covered that coach for ESPN.
Consequently, the pic of Woody makes sense.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
What about ND? In two years after Kelly is fired, maybe he's ready to go back to coaching then?
September 27th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
That'll be Peanut Butter Skippy time.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
I'm OK with. But, what if PSU becomes the dominant/shady program of the B1G? I don't know if I can take another program getting ignored by the NCAA and succeeding at our expense. I've read somewhere(which makes it gospel) that the NCAA is just waiting for JoePa to retire so they can investigate PSU. Of course I have no facts or evidence, but it wouldn't surprise me. How in the world can any budding superstar player want to go to that dysfunctional mess?
September 27th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
I think that PSU would be a great place for Meyer considering he wants to run a clean program. It was his superiors who forced him to run Florida the way he did. At PSU, he would be free to run a clean program with no pressure from the AD or president.
Also, they're in the Leaders division, so we would only have to play them twice every 4-6 years.
September 27th, 2011 at 7:04 PM ^
every year in the B1G championship game.
September 27th, 2011 at 5:09 PM ^
I don't know if you're being ironic or not, but PSU is a clean program. The debatable fit would be whether they'd want shady Urban Meyer around.
Is the last sentence a reference to OSU? I'm lost...
September 27th, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
No irony, there was a story done which discussed Meyer's values as a head coach and how they conflicted with Florida. So he would fit into a clean program like PSU.
Also, the team in the Leaders' division I'm talking about is PSU. We play OSU every year no matter what.
September 27th, 2011 at 7:08 PM ^
A man who goes against his values just to win never truly had those values to begin with. He could've gotten a high paying, high visibilty coaching gig anywhere. He made a choice to stay at Florida and that choice demonstrates more about what kind of values he had/has that anything else.
September 28th, 2011 at 5:59 AM ^
Hey, there's such a thing as reflecting on your mistakes. The evidence suggests that if Meyer goes back into coaching he wants to do it with integrity. How many to coaches like that are there out there? The man should be given some respect for it.
September 28th, 2011 at 6:02 AM ^
Of course, if he ends up at tsio, all that goes out the window. Who can believe that tsio wants to run a clean program? It would be like going to LSU and he would/should lose all respect if he does it.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
I'd be shocked if the Penn State job goes to somebody outside the family. Too many great assistants there to risk losing. Tom Bradley. Larry Johnson, Jr. Those are the guys keeping that program afloat right now.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
I was kind of wondering the same thing. PSU is more dug into the JoePa tree than UM is into the Bo/Mo/Carr tree. And who would Meyer get as assistants? His previous staff regulars have all moved on, and like you said, they would lose all the other assistants if he were to get the job.
September 28th, 2011 at 6:00 AM ^
But if the family way isn't winning, programs are tempted to look outside. See Rodriguez, Rich.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
You wouldn't hire Urban Meyer to save a few assistants? That seems a little short-sighted.
September 27th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
Some of those assistants have been there a very long time, and to hire an "outsider" to be the new head would be a big slap in the face to the current group there.
It probably wouldn't sit well with former players, either. And we know what happens when that relationship sours...
September 27th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
that when they do those segments for Gameday where they are in Urban's basement he is always standing in front of a pen and ink drawing of Woody Hayes? I know he's got a bunch of other stuff on the walls a la TGI Fridays, but it gives me the heebie jeebies every time I see it. Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you
September 27th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
According to 4Square, he checked in at the BP gas station in Billings, Montana.

Ohio State is the graveyard of coaches.
Since World War II, every single Ohio State coach has been forced out in disgrace. Every single one.
Sure, Urban Meyer, c'mon down! If he goes to OSU, he has not been paying attention.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
"Who will coach us through our humiliation now???"
Just like that, Mike Locksley on line two.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:58 PM ^
Mike Locksley at OSU...yeah, I could see that. He would be the perfect imbodiment of their fanbase. Lord knows they deserve each other.
