Calling TomVH ....
Tom - I'm not sure there is any way to thank you enough for all your hard work keeping us riveted to MGoBlog on the recruiting process during this most exciting "off-season" that I have ever experienced. Had I known what was going to happen with tsio and Hoke's recruiting I would have bought stock in Orville Reddenbacher's!
As we look to the upcoming season and then the signing process in early 2012 ... do you have any insight into which of our 2012 recruits may be planning on enrolling early? With the talent level of the 2012 class, I am beginning to wonder which of these recruits may want to enroll early to get a "head start" on their freshman season ... especially those incoming 2012 freshman that may have a realistic chance of playing aginst Alabama.
Thanks & Go Blue
may get you informative answers from people not named "Tom"
I hope you think it is Dunn, Wormley, Diamond, or Washington
Ringer has long expressed interest in enrolling early.
Wasnt RJS a potential early enrollee?
...that he intends to enroll early. Magnuson had spoken about it, but lately has decided that it doesn't make sense since he'll likely redshirt.
Fact:
5.5 years at college > 5.0 years at college > any point in high school
Eh I wouldn't say that. My friend enrolled early at Maryland and pretty much hated his life that first semester. I'm guessing it's like that for any new players, but it can't help that he was the only new player and all of his friends were back home doing the classic senior year stuff.
I think it can be tough for any kid, the first semester. If you enroll early I think you just get all that new/homesick stuff out of the way sooner. Going away to college is a big deal, for most kids it is the first time they are seriously away from home/parents.
I genuinely hope that none of the current 2012 class has any chance at playing against Alabama. If we somehow get a commit from Brionte Dunn, it could be possible. But I would see that as a bad thing.
may be thinking that they have a real shot at playing time. I would hope that at least 2 or 3 of these guys are going to be able contribute as freshman. Playing time is a strong motivator for a highly recruited & talented football player.

I wouldn't doubt that a couple end up playing as freshman, but not in Game 1.
Especially when that first game is against Alabama and not some MAC cupcake. No offense to MAC teams but a lot (read almost every) don't have the talent to compete against Big Ten schools.
Are we gonna see a linebacking corp of Bolden, Ross, and RJS? No. But I have to imagine some freshman will see some special teams time, even in the Opener Of Death (hereinafter "the OOD").
Hmmmm I think I remember hearing something quite similar to this on a recent documentary from ESPN about a basketball team that may (or may not) have once donned the maize and blue.
This is a shaping up to be a very good recruiting class, but it is nowhere near the Fab 5.
Not to mention freshmen making an immediate impact, especially to the point of fielding an entire position group, is significantly more difficult in football than basketball.
I don't dispute the observation; these kids really look like they want to play as freshmen. But why would a kid who would benefit from a year bulking up and learning the system want to burn the redshirt? Is it just the fun of playing? Seems to me that if you're a highly touted recruit who could get better with a year of S&C, you improve your odds of high performance, and thus improve how NFL scouts will look at you if you wait a bit.
I'm not saying they are making a wrong choice. I just honestly don't understand the reasoning. What do you think?
Players want to play, even the ones that need some time to mature. I don't blame them.
but there are a couple of spots where we could use 1 or 2 more bodies. Jarrod Wilson in the FS rotation would be good any time, but we're also set to lose 2 WLBs so one of our kids could sub in there. DT rotation will be thin and Pipkins could sub in early too, he looks ready. If we pull in a top WR then playing one in the red zone, or (if they have elite speed) down the sideline wouldn't be bad.
I have heard that Ringer is taking summer classes so that he can enroll early.
There's been some rumblings down in Toledo that Wormley might be enrolling early as well.
Just need him to commit already!!!
With bringing in potentially 6 OL. You would think Michigan would try to stagger them a little.
No reason to stagger them if they aren't ready and you don't need them...
I think it may be a bit too early to talk about who can play as freshman from 2012. They still have a year of high school ball.
Per TomVH twitter, Monty Madaris offered by Mich.
Is UM still offering more WRs? I know of a player who, although not "elite" in the minds of recruiting blogs, would be a great player. I saw in the UM info from yesterday that the Athletic Department loves to have suggestions so I thought this might be an appropriate player to show Brady if they are still offering. He only has C-USA offers now but I'm sure he's going to blow up his senior year.
