OT-The 4th of July Grilling/Drinking Thread
I will grill some burgers and hot dogs, then I will eat some. I will chill some beer then I will drink some. Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS)
Happy Fourth of July weekend all.
Dont forget to blow some stuff up while drinking....far more fun than sober.
Amendment: After eating and drinking some, I will blow up some stuff.
I got "lucky" and pulled duty for today and the 5th. Tomorrow I'm sure my wife will put me back on "duty" and stand my eternal watch on my kids. Happy forth all, If you see a Brit don't forget to point and laugh.
We're smoking some ribs later today. The smell of smoking meat is the smell of wellbeing. Go Blue.
I have to write a paper that is due to tonight at midnight...
Was caused by tonight?
ack, I have way too many typos on this board. I swear I am not this illiterate in real life. I think my brain is way faster and accurate than my typing.
Than in your paper.
No major plans today. Hit the lake yesterday with some friends for a BBQ and today won't be much different. I just wish I had Tuesday off...

As for booze, sticking with my summer drink of choice: Hendrick's gin and soda with a lime.
I've been a strict vegetarian for years (I know) but for Memorial Day I was assigned to buy/cook the ribs for my family. I asked Twitter for good recipes and came back with UMTailgate's: http://www.umtailgate.com/blog/2008/9/5/make-your-own-damn-ribs.html
I didn't make the glaze--I just used the rub--but my family said they were the best ribs they've ever had. I'm making them again tomorrow!
Also I have a case of Summer Shandy I've been working on all weekend. Have a great weekend guys!
20 pound Pork Shoulder/Boston Butt, Live in Columbus; new neighbors just moved in from PA we will be drinking in the Buckeye Schadenfreude all night and day...
Anyone have any suggestions on beer to drink?
Arcadia Whitsun Ale. Better than Oberon by a mile.
To each their own! Oberon is severely overrated, IMO.
I was brought up to drink busch and natty.....
Oberon is very overrated (this year's tastes like freaking alcohol straight up), but I've never liked an Arcadia beer.
Because clearly no other beers can be chilled. Oberon isn't bad, but it's just not the best beer ever like it's made out to be.
First, I got the morning going by adding some leftover pulled pork to my scrambled eggs. Next up will smoking some ribs. Low and slow my friends. For the best advice and information on grilling, checkout www.amazingribs.com. Fabulous.
And will be finishing it off with some Oberon. Even in Virginia, we can get it! God Bless America!
I made pulled chicken yesterday. Had the bird on the smoker for about 4.5 hours. Best I've ever done.
I like the addition of pulled pork to eggs. I've got some leftover chicken -- breakfast, here I come.
I personally would pick Oberon or a nice summer seasonal, but if always depends on what you are cooking.
Note that Bell's and Founders did remarkably well.

I am going to be grilling up the flank steaks that are now in my refrigerator, marinating in homemade chimichurri sauce. In case anyone reading this thread is interested in making his or her own homemade chimichurri sauce, here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 bunch of cilantro
1 bunch of Italian parsley
6-8 good-sized cloves of garlic
1 red chili pepper
1/2 tsp. coarse salt
1/2 tsp. fresh-ground black pepper
1/4 tsp. of red pepper flakes
1/3 cup of white vinegar
1/3 cup of water
Directions:
Tear or cut the leaves off the parsley, cilantro, and mint stems. Discard the stems. Finely chop the leaves and drop them into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Mince and add the garlic. Seed and finely-chop the pepper, add it to the bowl. Add in your salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Softly whisk everything together. Now add the liquids and vigorously whisk the entire mixture for a few minutes until combined (the sauce will be watery).
Note: you can do this much more quickly in a blender, but if you do that, be sure to use a lower speed or else the whole thing will immulsify.
Took Tuesday off to have a cook out for out of town friends being in town and that will be celebrated with more beer.
Throughout all of it Jameson will be consumed with one ice cube a glass
I knew I was doing myself a solid by brewing a double batch of lager and a double batch of American wheat last fall. Tis the season to enjoy lighter brews while the IPAs and Imperial Stouts set up for the football season.
I'm deliberating on what I want to do for my next brew right now. I may get something brewed and bottle aged for the holidays. We'll see. Until then it'll be a Milk Stout for fball season
It's already the 4th in here in Korea. Had raw beef bibimbap for dinner. Cooked meat is overrated. Soaking my liver in soju now. Looking forward to the dirty looks I'll get when the neighbors wake up and see the stars and stripes flying.
Went on the smoker at midnight. Should be coming off in about 2hours. Mmmm... smokey goodness. Pulled pork all around this afternoon. Oh and beer... lots and lots of beer.
to DTW from LAX today. Can't wait to grill out with some pulled pork, beers, and illegal fireworks tomorrow.
DOES ANYBODY HAVE A GOOD PULLED PORK RECIPE?
I'm leaving now to kayak through Browns :Lake, Vandercook and up the Grande River here in Jackson. Got beer and foor and sunscreen and beautiful blonde in her own kayak. Does it get any better??
A beautiful blonde in YOUR kayak? Or, perhaps, a beautiful blonde (joining you) in your sleeping bag?
Used to go on a canoe as a kid on those lakes. Lots of fun.
I'm throwing a bash. Definitely drinking some badass.
Chicken salad from Produce Station and Diet Coke. Yeah, I'm boring.
They look tasty.
I have a bunch of friends coming over tomorrow afternoon. Mostly cooking chops and brats but I might marinade some chinken in lemon, garlic and cilantro and other seasoning for about 45min, I wont be drinking until after the fireworks since I have to drive with my daughter so she can see them for the first. When she goes to bed on the other hand I'll enjoy a few adult beverages
Is that an Asian recipe?
It was just something I threw together for memorial day, it was a pretty big hit so I guess I'll keep making it.
I cooked for a living for 8 1/2 years. Mostly at sports bars and small restraunts. Each place I worked I left with new tricks an ideas, I love to cook but got tired of cooking the same thing every day.
I turn 21 at midnight!!
Happy Birthday. DOn't get into too much trouble
Smokin a brisket tomorrow, an all day thing, grill and drink, drink and grill....beer, wine(pinot noir) and scotch for later...multispice rub on the meat, and baste with vinegar, beer, various spices, and smoke with hickory....can't wait!!
cuz I loves me some freedom and independence.
Gourmet chili dogs&sausages, tater tots, homemade mac&cheese, chocolate malts, and smores for later. the kids love me. for the adults, grey goose&homemade lemonade and lots of explosives.
have a great fourth! GO BLUE
Gonna put a couple of chickens on in a little bit!
Feels un-american to grill anything other than burgers, dogs, or steaks, but I've got a 2 1/2 lb wild alaskan salmon going on a cedar plank tomorrow. Honey, dijon, lime, white wine vinegar garlic and leek to top it off; just need to find something to wash it down. After 22 of the 24 pk of Leine's summer shandy my wife bought, I'm bloody sick of it.
Tommorow morning:
fire up the new smoker and toss in a 6 lbs brisket. Beers until the meat is done. Corn and homemade slaw to go along with it.
