OT: Looking for a good movie
So I'm looking for a good movie, now before you tell me I should watch the A-Team or something, you should know I'm kind of an indie movie buff. The last two newer movies I've seen and liked were The Sunset Limited and The Vicious Kind.
Thanks for your help board.
EDIT: Jesus I can't spell today.
from Netflix since about the second week of December. (Yeah, I know I've probably paid for it 2-3x.) Maybe I'll try to power through it this weekend. Is it a real downer?
If it is I probably dont want to spend my limited free time on it as personal time is pretty tough to come by with a 3.5 month old at home these days. :-)
Good film. I can sure see where Slumdog got some of their inspiration from.
Elite Squad
City of Men
Fantastic movie. Christian Bale is fantastic in it.
dont forget the sequel: the rules of attraction
(another oustanding flick)
Not the fastest movie as far as plot development, but totally worth the time investment.
Great one! Hilarious, although a little shy on actual footage of the most interesting town that ever existed in the world, that being Escanaba.
Starship Troopers is a great franchise and definitely worth watching. The first two movies take a lot of liberties with the M.I. but they're still very entertaining. If you like watching Marine-like soldiers vs. Bugs, they movies are right up your alley. I also recommend reading Heinlen's novel that the movies were based on to get a more complete picture of the M.I. and how they train. (The book is on the reading list for 3 of the 5 U.S. military academies.)
i just watched the 3rd one a few days ago, solid movie
M.I. is the Mobile Infantry. They're the backbone of the ground forces, while the Fleet hangs out on their capital ships in space and mostly transports the M.I. from planet to planet.
I loved the first Starship Troopers, but assumed the others would probably be crappy. Now, I will plan to check them out.
let the right one in (swedish haven't seen american yet)
180 degrees south (documentary)
primer
adventureland
dude, 180 degrees south is AMAZING
Hard Eight
Inception, or Nosferatu. Inception is esssentially a slickly produced indie film. Nosferatu will spook you. Also, Bridesmaids looks good if you are heading for the cinema.
I'll second City of God and add:
A Serious Man
Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worry and Love the Bomb
The Road
The Brothers Bloom
45 post, no Transformers 2?
Best. Movie. Ever.
I cannot believe there has been no porn references yet...
Was porn...
Black Dynamite
Knowing Dark Blue a little bit, this may be a great movie for him.
Leprechaun in the Hood
Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac.
Zach Braff directed, it's quite fantastic.
Dennis Hopper at his finest in this one. I love Cronenberg movies as well so you might want to check out Videodrome, Scanners, and The Dead Zone.
It's on youtube, it's so awful it's good
In Bruges. One of my favorite's and relatively "indie"...nominated best adapted screenplay (I think that was it..?) a few years back
an excellent movie. a hitman seeking redemption. another goodie.

Link to the list of one person's 50 most insane at the top.
I'd suggest Buckaroo Banzai, personally. But tonight I'm going to watch Hell Comes to Frogtown
Thankskilling and Troll 2
I'd second Thankskilling. Fantastic movie! ....well...okay, maybe not.
Blade Runner is great, but it's very VERY slow-paced.
Also, Akira is great, but you should read the books as well to get the whole picture.
im also an indie buff, though havent seen muich in the past year.
consider my advice if you enjoyed any of the following main stream movies:
inception, lucky number slevin, three kings, or syriana.
HIGHLY recommend:
king of california
a guide to recognizing your local saints
children of men
and here are a few more:
brothers bloom
nobel son
inside job
half nelson
bottleshock
Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus
new york, i love you
smart people
Event horizon
Fast. Five.
Is that as good as everyone says? A lot of people have been saying that may be the best one yet.
One of the less known Kilmer movies is the Salton Sea. It's one of my favorite movies and not well known.
Also prolly seen it but The boondock Saints.. It didn't become popular until a couple years ago.
Speaking of Val Kilmer, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a pretty underrated movie. If you like Robert Downey Jr he is also in it.
