Softball coach Hutch saves life of recruit father
Amazing story posted to Dave Brandon's blog: softball coach Carol Hutchins and assistants give recruit's father CPR and use an AED when he suffers a heart attack. The man was taken to UM hospital and survived.
Nice save, coach.http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/brandon/spec-rel/051411aaa.html
Just imagine what the headline on ESPN would be for this. Awesome story though.
"Coach saves recruits father, does this ensure commitment to Michigan?"
"UM Coach gives improper, illegal benefit to a recruit's father in hopes of securing commitment"
You left out their citing of anonymous team sources, but other than that, dead on.
I was thinking more along the lines of "Coach foolishly saves fathers life, loses opportunity to bond with recruit."
ESPN really needs to do more than apologize for that. I know I've now made two jokes about how awful that was, but it was probably the worst thing I've ever read in sports journalism.
That was bad, but worse than FOXSports having Ted William's frozen head pick who was going to win the World Series? IMO the Ted Williams thing was worse, but both are aggregious.
Wow I never saw that. Yea, that's pretty bad.
It was about a year and a half ago when there was the battle between his kids about what to do with his remains. FOXSports.com was my main source of sports information until that day and I literally have not been back since.
EDIT
Here's the link... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Ted-Williams-frozen-head-makes-2010-MLB-predictions-032710
How were his picks?
Was it: "Possible starter found dead in Jacksonville, opening door for five-star signee Cyrus Kouandjio,"
I found that after a quick Google search, but I don't doubt the limitless classlessness that ESPN can exude and wondered if there was another instance you were referring to.
Yea, that was it. I'd actually be surprised if there was a worse one. That's about as bad as it gets I think (though the Hank Williams story was bad too).
I guess that's one way to secure a commitment. In all seriousness, it's good that these coaches reacted so quickly and used the training that I'm sure they've received.
...Congrats to coaches Hutchins, Tholl and Brundage for their quick thinking and action.
Incredible, what else is Hutchins going to do. She really is the best.
I think we better get that recruit now. If we don't I wonder how the other schools would get her.
Leaders and Best.
is so impressed with recruit, she saves her father in hopes he may produce another recruit"
Life's a pitch and then you die.
the best recruiter in the country let alone at UM!
Thats why Coach Hutch is the winningest coach in MICHIGAN HISTORY. Her AND her staff are simply" Leaders and Best"!
Bad ass off the field.
They would have bought the recruit a car.
if it happened at tOSU the car would have had to been a hearse
...what does Albert Lin have to say on this subject?
Wow. Heartwarming. Truly a hero...er...heroine.
works every time.
This is a great story. I would have a hard time not commiting all else being equal.
SB is to Michigan what Women's volleyball is to Nebraska. Well ... without the fanaticism that is.
It's about time everyone became fanatic about this coach (that isn't already) she is just amaizing. It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine.
As you can tell by my avatar I am a volunteer firefighter, and also a first responder at work(first aid only) and so I have had several CPR and AED classes. I have often wondered what I would do if I were actually put in the position that required my knowledge. I can honestly say that I hope that I would respond that well. Way to go Coach.
Hello: Anonymous Recruit
