Your view on wearing jerseys

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

i've had a feeling for a long time that this is a topic that needs its own arena, if you will. It has broken out in other threads about adults wearing jerseys vs. those against it. Time for one discussion.

What is your view on wearing jerseys to sporting events/while watching sporting events (and nothing more) and why?

I'm fine with fans of any age wearing jerseys to sporting events. Outside of sporting events seems a bit odd to me, but hey you do you. Not judging.

I wear my michigan jersey every time I sit in front of my TV on game days. I never knew other people had issues with it, and I don't understand why they care. It's your life, wear what you want

Yeah as some have said already if you are watching a game it's fine. If you are wearing it randomly as an adult it's a little weird. Not going to judge tho jerseys are comfortable. Can also see wearing a basketball jersey if you are shooting hoops.

I used to be more into jerseys.  I didn't collect them, but wore blank ones depending on who was playing & if it was home/away.  Now all I have is Michigan home & away, a Lions & a pair of Knicks shorts.  I just got to the point where I didn't care about wearing a jersey anymore.  I can root on my favorite team and be comfortable in something that isn't made of polyester that feels awful.

this rule is basically how i do it too.

wearing a barry sanders jersey is sick no matter how old you are. like, i couldnt imagine looking at someone wearing a sanders throwback jersey and saying "thats weird".

now if you are over 40 and wearing a stafford jersey??? maybe i can judge you.

im only 21 so there arent many players younger than me, but i dont think i will ever want to buy a jersey of someone my age or younger. ill stick to throwbacks at this point

Jerseys are A-OK to me. Basketball jerseys still look dorky with an undershirt and gross without one though. Related: glove to a baseball game. Harbaugh muddied the waters on this one.

I was a jersey fanatic, I quit wearing them around the age of 20. Too me wearing jerseys is a young man thing, but that's just my view and I wouldn't make fun of any adult for wearing one

What's your methodology?

I stick with hoops at hoops, football at football, and hockey at hockey. I have 3 different hockey jerseys--including the sweet new one from the Soldier Field game--and like to mix the colors up depending upon the team's success when I wear them.

I'll wear my new one to the B1G tourney this weekend; if we win tomorrow, I'll keep it going Friday, and then hopefully Saturday (but not counting on that).

I'm more of a polo/button down type-of-guy but I'm not an SEC fratstar that judges those who wear jerseys.

When it comes to Michigan games, if you're up and cheering and not bitching at me for standing up on a 2nd and 8, I don't care what you're wearing.

I live in Texas and watch most games from my couch...always in a jersey. My wife is the only person who gets to make fun of me. If I'm in public, I tend to go with a coaching polo. I don't think there's anything wrong with it either way , just my preference. I don't judge those that wear them though.

If you're a serious fan with a casual job, a jersey is fine to wear whenever. Buying them and wearing them only during games is a waste of money IMO.

I bought my M hockey jersey like 5 years ago for $80 I think and I've worn it for every hockey game, most football games, and some basketball games since. It's totally worth the money to me. My favorite piece of Michigan gear by far

Most people pay $80 easily each month for cable or wireless. I got a jersey for $80 that will probably last me well past a decade

Idk what it is, but football jerseys look out of place outside the bar or a stadium. Think it just has more to do with the massive numbers. All the others look fairly normal to me in most settings.

We would all be so lost if it weren't for fashion police.  Brown shirt with black pants?  Socks with sandals?  Sports jerseys after you're old enough to shave?  Thank you, unsung heroes of the internet.
