TTU QB Davis Webb to transfer, will be eligible next year

Submitted by Bambi on

Webb actually has some pretty good career stats, 61.5% completion percentage with 46 TDs and 5557 yards vs 22 INTs. He was a backup behind Patrick Mahomes all of this year, who's a phenomenal QB by the way, but started 14 games between 2013 and 2014 and put up solid numbers along the way.

He will probably go somewhere in the south, PAC-12 or SEC, but if Michigan does end up taking a grad transfer he'd probably be one of the better options.

Webb took the job from Baker Mayfield in '13, but Mahomes took over last year after Webb's injury last year and won the job this year. Like you said, Mahomes is a great QB in that system.

With Morris coming back, it'll be interesting to see how much we pursue grad transfers. I think if Hill wants to come we'll take him with open arms.

With the possibility of Shane returning, I would say the only way you bring in a grad transfer at QB is if it is a top guy (Hill.)

One less scholarship means one less slot, and would you rather see it go to a likely backup QB?

I rhink any transfer QB is out of the question if Shane is indeed returning (tbd in my opinion).

Given the choice I would take the transfer OL from TX.

Wisconsin is starting 4 RS Freshman (!!?!!) on the OL.  We need to build there first.

Shit - Osa Masina sighting.  Another possible M player we could use next year...

The grad transfer is typically a one year guy, so you're not taking away from, say, long-term OL depth, you're deffering that scholarship one year in favor of a guy who can immediately help you for one year, without having to invest multiple seasons of scholarships in development.  One 4-year play = 4 grad transfers.

In the case of a QB you're talking about a guy who can win you multiple games.  In the case of an OL recruit, even a 4-star one, you're talking about a guy who is 50/50 shot at helping you 3 or 4 years down the road and even if he pans out he may or may not be substantially better than his backup.

So yeah, 1 year of a Taysom Hill -  a guy who is a heisman caliber talent at his best, or waiting one year to take a Blake Bars or Eric Magnuson is a no-brainer in my opinion.

I watched Tech three times this year...do they even recruit defensive players or do they put failed offensive guys on that side of the ball...they may be the only team where 60 points scored isn't all but a guaranteed win....

How do you royally piss off high-calibre QBs so much that they're fleeing your program like rats jumping off a sinking ship....I hope Kingsbury enjoyed his shots delivered to Bielema after the Arkansas win (though I do agree Bielema is an asshat), because that's may be the highlight of his coaching tenure Texas Tech.

I've actually watched him and think he's better than you give him credit for.

At one point he was playing over both Mahomes and Mayfield, so clearly there's something to work with. Michael Brewer was also on those teams. That's 4 D1 college QBs in a 2-3 year span.

Is he great? No. But he's not Russell Bellomy either. If we were in need of a QB, I'd seriously take a look at him.

Not sure how one could look at O'Korn's sophomore year and get excited about his transfer and call him our next QB for 2 years, but Webb is just straight trash. They both got benched for the same reason - it was about what the other guy was doing, not what they couldn't do.

You know who else falls in that category? Jake Rudock.

Webb will make a decent QB. Probably not at Michigan, but we've seen a lot worse in our recent history up in Ann Arbor.
