Today's Schedule of Games

Submitted by M-Dog on October 17th, 2020 at 9:58 AM

It's a top-heavy day.  Pretty much just background-TV until the evening.

At noon, Auburn at South Carolina could be interesting.  So could Pitt at Miami.

In the afternoon . . . Texas A&M at Miss State I guess?  Maybe Louisville at Notre Dame for a minute.

At night: The big one - Georgia at Alabama.  Alabama's unprecedented offense last week may have more to do with Ole Miss' D-Line weakness.  They won't be able to push around Georgia's D-Line this week, and that's a big difference maker.  All things start from there.  I don't know who will win, but it won't set records on offense.

Also at night, UNC at FSU.  If FSU gets blown out, we could even pick up FSU's equipment managers and training staff.  Throw in some cheerleaders.

With several top 25 teams having road games today, I'd love to see a few upsets.

One in particular I think is at least remotely possible: #5 NC @ Florida St. @7:30 on ABC. But it only happens if they play a much more mistake-free game than what we've seen so far.

Thin slate for today but a few intriguing games.

UGA’s offense is average so their D needs to keep Bama in a low scoring game.
Everyone is trying to hype UNC and ND so it looks like the ACC is rising ... it’s not. FSU is bad and UNC is not close a 5 ranking so it could be bad football for long stretches.

Geoff Collins is a good coach with young talent but GT doesn’t have the talent on D yet to hold CU.
SC pulls a stunner every so often and Auburn has played poorly at times - wouldn’t surprise me if this is the upset.

WTKA is rebroadcasting the '98 Rose Bowl. WSU scored a touchdown on a 99-yard drive in the 3rd quarter to go up by 7, and now Griese hits his 58-yard bomb to Streets to put Michigan up 14-13. WSU is not going away easily.

Giving #2 Nebraska half of the NC might have been unfair, but they did what they needed to do to put themselves into the position by pounding #3 Tennessee 42-17—that game was never in doubt.

Michigan struggled mightily with #8 WSU, with the game literally going down to the final seconds. If we'd done to the Cougars what Nebraska did to the Volunteers, we wouldn't have shared the NC.

Like I said, giving half the title to Nebraska was unfair. "Everybody knows..." doesn't mean squat inasmuch as a large portion of the voters in the Coach's poll were/are idiots who were going to use any excuse to put Nebraska #1.

My point about the impact of the relative performance of Michigan and Nebraska in their bowl games on the final poll vote still stands—don't put yourself in the position where idiots can fuck you.

That last drive by WSU was a nail biter. We’ve lost too many games on last drives  and I still remember how nervous I was at the end of that game.

I was deployed to Tuzla and the game was on early in the morning. All we had was Near Beer ? and I felt more relief than I did celebratory at the end of the game. What a magical season and thanks to AFN and radio broadcasts over the internet I was able to catch every game live, more or less.

Thanks for posting, brings back a lot of memories.

Tennessee is getting destroyed at home by Kentucky mostly due to 4 straight first half turnovers by their QBs, Jarrett Guarantano, including back to back pick sixes and then an INT on the first throw after those pick sixes by backup QB JT Shrout.

Now the game is all but over and Tennessee is giving it's first snaps to true freshman backup Harrison Bailey, who so far is 1/4 for 24 yards. He was lined up next to RB Eric Gray in the backfield, which if you rewind 2 years seemed very likely to be Michigan's backfield of the future. Along with Aubrey Solomon you have 3 former Michigan guys (target, commit and player) who all look to be on another crappy Tennessee team under Pruitt.

I am truly surprised the did not call a penalty on the Louisville TD...They have thrown a flag, time after time, on every other significant play the Cardinals have made.
