I just like that we as a fanbase can afford to have these debates about who is perhaps the most deserving of a spot in the "There Are..." series of posts every July and August. After all, there are many other fanbases out there that would sit back, ponder memorable people who wore #16, then eventually shrug their shoulders and go back to what they had been doing.

people don't engage in menial irrelevant discussions with an enthusiam unknown to mankind.  1/2% or skim drinkers I would wager.

Not worthy of its own thread, but did anybody else see Saban's completely random rant?  That guy can just be miserable for the sake of being miserable and no other reason.

He was trying to crash a party at the Sigma Chi house and I asked him nicely to leave.  He pulled the "do you know who I am card?" on me and I said something to the effect of "yes I do and if you were any good you could stay but you're not so GTF out of here."

I was wondering how in the hell a "days remaining" thread could get almost 100 comments and now I know.  The OP had the audacity to suggest that someone other than the imortal Denard Robinson could occupy the #16 slot in the countdown.  And FWIW as much as I liked DR his place in Michigan history is GROSSLY overstated here IMO.  He was fun to watch but never won anything of significance or accomplished anything worthy of the praise he receives here.  I like mobile QBs (Ricky Leach was my personal favorite) but when you cant beat OSU and dont win the B1G 10 titile even once I think we really need to take a deep breath before putting him on the top of our "best UM QBs ever list".

Denard all the way. Denard never won anything. Navarre never won anything. Steve Smith never won anything. The team did. The Team, The Team, The Team. Navarre was so scared against UCLA on the road, I cannot imagine how he would have reacted if forced to face all of the challenges Denard did. Navarre had the distinct advantage of being able to learn under established predecessors and executing an entrenched offense. All while being protected by an experienced offensive line. He was a good player but just managed what was placed in front of him. Never put the team on his shoulders and willed them to victory. Denard was pretty much it on offense during his tenure. He battled multiple offensive systems, offensive offensive coaching under the Hoke regime, inexperienced offensive lines, and had zero to look up to as an example in terms of upper class men. Also, when given the chance to bolt, he stayed for the good of the team. Also, Denard was a way better passer than Navarre was a runner, especially during the time period where he was receiving competent coaching. That is why Denard does and should receive so much love here. He deserves it.

One of my all time faves. And this is going on more than on field performance. I mean all around guy. And yes, I did enjoy the jokes about him too, mainly the did you hear the john Navarre bobblehead promotion got cancelled, bc the head didn't move. FWIW, he knew of and enjoyed hat joke as well. Class act ALL the way!!

Denard was able to be that good during such a dark time for Michigan football. He is the one player that still stands as instantly memorable from that era.

That's why Denard is the best Michigan player to wear #16.

Just imagine how fun of a player he would have been if Harbaugh was able to use him.

I'll never forget Denard's 500 yard game against ND. I'll also never forget the game @ Iowa where the game was on the line and he threw it to a wide open.... Iowa guy. which ended the game. Denard was fun yet frustrating at the same time. Navarre was solid. Not great...
