He simply reported breaking news (and expressed an opinion about it).  It seems most people in these parts have an issue with the NCAA's knee-jerk decision on this topic.

So...why?  Because it could've gone in the earlier thread?  Simply because it's WD?

From what I saw online, it seems that schools that use a football stadium off campus might now be banned from having spring practice at all!

USC - LA Colliseum

UCLA - Rose Bowl

Just to name two, and I'm sure there are many others.

It's a bit disappointing, but hard to get too worked up about.  Part of the big camp storm and Spring Break guest camp was to create additional buzz about the program.  Plus, if we do something innovative once, and the NCAA shuts us down, then nobody gets to imitate it.

Methinks that Coach Harbaugh will come up with other ways to create buzz about the program.  Dust that shit right off our shoulders, y'all.  In the military, it's called "staying inside the enemy's planning cycle".

I have a feeling this will be like the satellite camp thing.  A ban is put in place until everyone realizes what the ban actually does and then they'll repeal it, promise to come back to it next year, and then suddenly realize it's not that big of a deal and the whole thing will die on the vine.

That ban is not dead. They're trying to limit all camps that month to a 10 day period. That 10 days is for camps on your own campus and other places.
The crazier of the things they want to institute is banning coaches from being hired as analysts if they sent any students to that school the last 2 years. And it also prevents you from being able to recruit that school for 2 years. This excludes your staff coaches, but still just seems insane.

I wonder at what point do kids being recruited take notice of all of the schools who work to ban everything that benefits them and encourage everthing that doesn't.

I trust in Harbaugh's ability to innovate and find something which accomplishes the goal in a manner which the NCAA did not conceive. It will be interesting to see what's on the slate for this year, and if it were up to me, the NCAA would be a standing favorite for the award that they used to give out on Laugh-In - The Flying Fickle Finger Of Fate.

It is disappointing that the NCAA and its other members could feel so threatened by one man in particular, but then look at who gets a big say and which conferences they inhabit....

It's so funny because if the SEC were confident in their abilities to stay on top, they wouldn't worry. They know their little run on top has ended. Not soon enough it was. College football will be better for it. I guarantee that I speak for over three quarters of the country by saying that no one really gives a shit about seeing a bunch of states in the dirty south acting like they are kings. Once this is all over they'll go back to watching movies like Deliverance and cleaning mud out of their teeth and hair after their year round swims. It's such a warm part of the country.

Also, is the actual text available anywhere? What constitutes "Practice," exactly? What I'm getting at: there has to be a way to still be able to get the team together / travel during spring break without "practicing" no?

Harbaugh has two qualities not found in most people: he's an innovator and a competitor.  People like Harbaugh will always have the upper hand because they are relentless and they are always looking for a new angle.  The people who feel threatened seek to change the rules instead of engaging.  They falsely believe the rules are a way to keep people like Harbaugh from encroaching their status quo.

Innovators always think beyond the current game and set of rules, and I for one am anxiously awaiting Harbaugh's next move to make these slackers feel threatened again.

It's interesting watching the status quo fight disruptors like Harbaugh. Examples include cities banning Uber (to protect entrenched taxi services) and the State of Michigan banning Tesla from selling in Michigan without brick and mortar dealerships (to protect the domestic makers). Usually the disruptors win but it can be a back an forth fight.

The NCAA is a political entity that keeps passing rules/laws to keep power and to serve special interests. I don't see a way around it unless we can somehow find a NCAA alternative. As long as the special interests (SEC and Power 5 cheapskates) continue to protect their turf we will always be in their crosshairs.

I am going to go out on a limb and assume that this new rule only applies to football and not the other sports that have been doing the same thing for years just becasue...

The NCAA is making rules to favor one conference over the others.  If the NCAA is going to make rules like this then I think it's about time that they change the baseball and softball seasons so as to not force northern schools to play months of road games down south.
