Semi-OT: Kareem Walker May Be Wavering on OSU Commitment
The article is paywalled, but the gist is that Walker thought he would be the only RB taken in his class (sound familiar?) and that Stan Drayton would be his RB coach (sound familiar!?). Obviously neither is true anymore, so he's listening to other schools.

I know, I know, too many OSU posts. However, the possibility our rival losing the #1 RB in the nation strikes me as very good news. Mods, feel free to delete if I'm mistaken.
EDIT: To be clear, I don't think Walker is Ann Arbor bound if he decommits. His Crystal Ball has Bama in front, with Rutgets and PSU trailing. That's why this is Semi-OT. I don't think he is interested in us, and my understanding is that we are full at RB.
It seems like you can only piss off so many people before your recruiting starts to falter. I hope that's what happens with Urban. Piss of everybody for immediate gains and then start to lose ground when it gets back to high school coaches that their players are getting cut from the team. Then again Saban still gets the # 1 class in the country every year but it's more taboo in the midwest so maybe it will blowup in his face.
I hope you're right, since as of now they're average composite rating is 94.69 which is insane for having 8 kids. Last year, only 3 teams were above 92, with Alabama having 93.72. It'd be nice to see Urban's recruiting tactics start to scare some kids and parents off, but it doesn't seem to be hurting them all that bad as of now.
Yep, Urban seems to be upsetting more coaches these days, especially now with the news of early enrollee Dean getting the boot. This eventually will bite Urbs in the butt.

Dean was tweeting about a meniscus transplant in January. Unfortunately, OSU can't discuss specific medical issues due to FERPA and HIPPAA , meaning that we're relying on an upset teenager and his high school coach to give us medical information. I can understand Dean's unhappiness at being told his career is over. Dean probably expected to play in the NFL, and to be told that's not going to happen has to be tough.
I hope you're right but I'm not getting my hopes up. Look how he smooth-talked Wilcher. I can imagine he will manage to continue to do the same with others.
I don't know if Urban "smooth-talked" Wilcher so much as Wilcher was being shrewd/diplomatic so as not to burn a bridge for his players and his future as a coach at the next level. That being said, I agree that you can't underestimate the duplicity and cajolery of the Teflon coach in Columbus.
Even John Gotti - The Teflon Don - went to prision.
Indeed. I remember a time when tressel was "untouchable"
:)
Wilcher = Spineless Yes Man
They still have two other highly rated guys in the fold, all this would really do (if he did de-commit) is give them less options. I don't see this having a big effect until 2 or 3 yrs down the road. They still have Elliott this year, if he stays healthy.
It'd be great to pile on with this one, considering some of the other negative news coming out of C-bus, but honestly its too early to get excited about it for me. If Urbz continues to get his recruits, then obviously the kids aren't believing the stories or he's still a hell of a snake oil salesman.
Kid from Jersey commits way too early to a school half way across the country with a liar of a coach, when he could take full advantage of recruiting trips and being the #1 target on many team's boards. Very little chance he ends up a Buckeye.
You really want to get into semantics here? Correct, technically NJ and OH are not halfway across the country from each other but they are not close either, probably an 8-10 hour drive and miles apart culturally. Quick google maps search indicates Wayne NJ and Columbus are 547 miles apart.
Columbus is miles apart from just about everyone culturally....well, maybe similar to EL.
But then it's like 20 more hours to actually being halfway across the country.
RB at UM is full for foreseeable future so not sure I care about Kareem Walker. o$u is going to have good backs w/ or w/o him.
if he defects from OSU? We've already signed two RB's this year, so it seems that Michigan wouldn't be in play for him.
Day late and a dollar short, Mr. Walker.
Can we refer to them as Rutgets from now on?
I'm not editing the OP solely because of this post.
It's weirdly better than Rutgers. I like it.
Rutgets, man. Rutgets.
I was shocked in the first place that 3 of the top running backs in the class would all decide to commit to the same school.

are you reading all this?
Color me embarassed...
There's a YouTube video of him stubbing his toe on a table leg. He's just taking the necessary precautions.

Good. I hope he de-commits.
This will be the one scenario where I will be rooting for Bama to win a recruiting battle.
They need some help, too, I suppose.
I'd love for a scouting report to be the same as it was for the Lions in the 90's(Good ole Barry Sanders).
Stop the running back: Win
Don't stop running back: Lose
If there was any chance in him coming to MI, despite the two RB's already committed, I would have to believe JH would make room for him. I just watched his hudl film. No offense to Matt Falcon whose film I watched yesterday, and who seems like a great kid btw, but the skill difference is stark. Kareem Walker is in another class and a 5-star for a reason.
Jesus, why would anyone think this was a good idea?
So I follow the Crystal Ball'ing over at 247, and earlier this month, Sean Scherer from Spartan Tailgate put in a crystal ball to Sparty one of the OSU's 3 RB's, George Hill. I read this to mean that he might be looking elsewhere, given he would come in with two other top backs. I doubt they keep all three in any case.
Scherer also just put in a Crystal Ball for Xavier Gaines to Sparty, one of the top dual threat QB's in the country. We'll see if some of these come home, but Sparty definitely sniffing around higher rated recruits. Another year of good football, and they should be very good this year, and I think they finally break through the recruiting ceiling. Not elite like Michigan or OSU, but next level down.
They always do that. The MSU 247 staff crystal balls everybody there and then they commit elsewhere. See Kugler, Marshall, Bosch etc. I guess you have to sell subscriptions to these people who claim that they don't care about recruiting.

Our former "Messiah" is supposedly a very hard MSU lean anyway.
I do think they're going to pull in one of their higher rated classes in few years tho. Funny thing is, for as many 2-3 star guys that have achieved success there, a lot of their higher rated recruits seem to not live up to the hype out there...
Yeah - Scherer isn't the best predictor.
Nonetheless, the big connection between Xavier and MSU is that Xavier's older brother Kaleel is part of the 2015 recruiting class for MSU.
MSU also appears to be recruiting him as an "athlete" while other schools want him as a QB. If he wants to go that direction then MSU might be more of an option. It seems that deWeaver will very likely be MSU's QB in this class.
Does that ever happen?
that many of these 5 star kids clearly want more of a guarantee that they are going to start. It could be better to fill your roster with hardworking 3-4 stars committed to a particular program.
Come on Rutgers. Flip this guy. Let's get more talent across the B1G.
Wow. Another OSU thread. I'm so surprised. <sarcasm>
