Rocket Mortgage Classic Tips

Submitted by FireUpChips on July 28th, 2022 at 9:49 PM

Hello everybody! A group of us young gents will be attending the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Sunday. We are all first timers. We have parking figured out but we have no idea what to do when we get to the course. Are there certain spots on the course to show up early for? Anybody who has gone before have any good tips for how to do this the right way? Thanks so much!

You get to follow/watch however you wish. Watch players tee off on a long driving hole and a par three. On tees that are fairly close to a green you can follow a group from green to tee then return to the green and repeat the same thing with the next/incoming group. Watch some second shots then watch approach shots and putting. Often there is a place where you can watch a group in front of you and one not to far away in an parallel fairway or green. Or you can follow a favorite player/group for a significant amount of time. You will have time to do whatever you are finding to be most enjoyable.

Refinance now before interest rates go up even further. We'll keep calling you everyday for the next 90 days to make sure you got the message then start over again.

We went last year and followed Phil around for nine holes and then Bryson for nine holes. So the strategy is that you can either pick a group to follow or stay in one spot and watch all the groups come by. If you're going to do that, I'd suggest bringing a chair and sitting on the green at one of the par 4's in the middle of the course. If you plan on following a specific golfer or group, don't bring a chair. It'll just be a hassle to carry. The grandstands are only set up on the final three holes, I believe.

Food choices are fairly plentiful - there's a food tent area that has a little of everything.

I'm going today but have never been before.  I'll be in club 1899 which is in the 313 area thanks to some free tickets through work but I'll also walk around a bit.  I'll let you know what I find out.

i have EVERYTHING through my credit union. they have been able to beat all other banks interest rates for every major purchase (mortgage, auto loans) and the check I get at the end of every year is nice too. we use it to pay off the credit card after all the christmas gifts. the auto loans are incredible too (automatic free gap coverage + AAA membership and some other stuff).

Back in my days of being a caddie at Dearborn CC the Senior Tour was played on that course.  Being a Caddie I knew a place that had 2 tees and 2 greens that were all pretty close together.  My dad and I would go and just hang out on in that are and switch between the tee boxes and greens and we got to see everyone play through.

If I ever go watch golf again I would look at a map of the course and find a similar location.  Less walking around and you let the players come to you.

Edit: I should add that they had a concession tent and portajohns set up in that are as well so we had everything we needed right there. The area was about 50 sq yards and unobstructed so you could see who was coming up on each hole.

I was there the Year Jack won it. A friend of mine had someone give him Clubhouse tickets for all four days. He drug me around with him. It was only 4yrs after his epic win at the Masters. He only shot 27 under. Christ.

Then I was there 10yrs later when Floyd won it. In the clubhouse afterwards Hale Irwin was on the second floor of the foyer signing golf balls and bouncing them off the railing. My buddy managed to snag one. I somehow managed to get Jack to sign my hat. Only Bucknut I ever liked.

I believe I was working there that year.  We got free tickets to pro-am day as caddies.  I was able to get my picture with several of the pros as well as with Bo and a lot of other local pro sports celebrities.

I also enjoyed working the Van Patrick tournament every year.  I got to caddie for Leslie Nielsen one year and his comedy persona was on full display. When the cameras weren't on though he was really personable and asked me about my plans after I graduated HS. He listened and offered advice and seemed to really take interest in our conversation. That was more valuable to me than the gracious tip he gave me.

It's fun to spend a little time out in front of the clubhouse because you can see the players come out and head to the practice green. It's a good way to get up close and you can hear conversations among players, caddies, coaches, etc.

TBH you can't go wrong anywhere.  I played in the pro-am on Wednesday and all the grandstands I saw you were right there - it didnt look like there was a bad seat anywhere
