would be nice if moore could move quickly and viciously. im not saying he's not working on things behind the scenes, but our speed seems brutally slow on things. especially since this succession plan has been in place for 1.5 years. would think he had people in mind with a wink wink to bring in...

One reason things are moving slow is the individuals we've targeted are also being targeted by other schools/NFL teams.

Orr, for example, I'm sure would much rather be the DC for the Packers than he would the Wolverines.  But if he doesnt get that gig my guess is he'd rather be the DC for the Wolverines than the LB coach for the Ravens.

I would rather wait a bit and see if we can land plan A versus rushing to fill a slot with Plan B.  It's not like we're starting spring practice and recruiting has weathered the storm so far, it can wait a bit longer if it means getting the guy we really want.

Herbert was making @ $1M/year as the highest paid S&C coach in college football. From what I saw in the other threads, he wanted a raise to @ $3M/year despite signing a new contract last year. As a reference, Jesse Minter & Sherrone Moore each made @ $1.2M last year.

Paying Herbert what he wanted, I'm guessing, probably would not sit well with the new coordinators and position coaches. Discontent over salaries across the coaching staff is not a great way to start a new coach's tenure.

Herbert overvalued himself. That's his choice. It put him in a position where he either got what he wanted and caused problems for everyone else, or had to move on. Sometimes letting good people move on for the overall betterment of everyone else has to happen. Sucks, but it's reality.

I really have no idea what to believe in all these stories.  I cannot imagine teams were lining up to pay Herbert $3M a year, so I am dubious that was his demand.  Also seems WM should have been smart enough to understand the role Herbert played for the team, so hard to believe he nickel and dimed him on a contract.  It would be nice to hear from the individuals involved to hear their versions of the parting. And it will be nice to hear what the Chargers pay him.

this is the price of success

you are never going to some Bo style staff where all the coordinators stick around for 10 years at a time and the position coaches never aspire to anything else ever again... in retrospect it is fucking weird that we had Jerry Hanlon producing all pro linemen every other year for 25 years, most coaches of that stature today would be long gone

Who says that he's even in consideration. We hear about our guys all over ... why don't we hear about other guys here other than internals filling roles etc

Also, other than jimmy and moore, who has Michigan as their "top choice"? Why do we have to hope our ideal candidate chooses us? Bama, osu, georgia, texas... they go get the guy they want

Hmm, I've heard in a number of places that DeBoer was not Bama's first choice, Lanning and Mike Norvell were above him. And OSU was supposedly trying to hire away Kentucky's OC before they hired O'Brien. Texas just lost their DL coach to LSU in a lateral move, albeit to his alma mater,

I think we know a lot more about what's going on at Michigan than anywhere else and that makes it hard to make good comparisons.

Falling short on actual outcomes? Michigan just won the National Championship by 21 points.

Michigan has time to get the coaching staff sorted out.

They got the S&C coach and dietitian figured out first. Those are the two most critical roles for the current players on the roster. Keep them going in the weight room and ready for spring practices. As long as the rest of the staff is in place and ready by the start of spring practice, all will be good.

I understand many fans want everything to happen now, publicly, instantly so they can move on to worry about the next thing.

I prefer things be done right. So far, Sherrone seems to be working the right way, not the fans way. Yay!

Not really. The guys Michigan is going after seem to be hot commodities that have other options to consider. This process is only quick when the you’re offering somebody and you’re the clear cut top option.

It’s also been like a week since Harbaugh announced he was taking the Chargers job and just a couple days since Moore was officially given the head coaching job.

I suspect they've reached out and are talking to guys but the Ravens have only been out of the playoffs for a couple of days and so there may be some additional availability for guys like Orr that was harder when he was a position coach prepping for games.  I know coaches balance it all out but still it takes some time.  And while I'm sure Moore has reached out Orr is going to leverage that interest to get other interviews, so it being "brutally slow" might be on his end as much as Michigan's.

Also, the reason guys like Macdonald and Minter came to UM was because they were trying to get shots at DC jobs in the NFL; if Orr is already getting NFL interviews that negates a huge selling point for UM.  I would be a little surprised if the Packers went with Orr as a first-time DC so we'll see.

I mean, "brutally slow" is a relative term.  We won the National Championship 22 days ago.  Harbaugh was still our head coach SEVEN days ago.  We have had our new head coach, Moore, for FOUR DAYS.

These are multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts that are being written for very busy people, many of whom have current jobs.  Coach Moore has about 4,567 things to do every day.

I mean, I would love to have immediate answers to every question as well.  But I think we can relax on the timeline.  I think the University has moved fairly quickly to get a new head coach, and are actively locking down existing coaches, pursuing new ones, keeping the recruiting class together, etc.

I think the internet age has warped our sense of time.  I also kind of want everything right now, and for it all to be great and perfect.  But that is not realistic.  I would MUCH rather take a bit of time and get the right candidate, than be stuck with the wrong one for 1-3 football seasons.

Its in comparison to other elite football schools and the pace they move to get players, coaches, etc... we said things were on hold for jimmy's decision. but im a little surprised that we seem to be in slow motion after moore was announced a week ago on getting a staff in place to we can salvage some portal players etc...
