Portal Prospect Jose Perez Visiting July 28-30

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on July 11th, 2023 at 3:55 PM

He's a 6-5 guard who averaged 18.9 PPG during his last full season, at Manhattan. Michigan would be his FIFTH school. He spent two years at Gardner-Webb, one year at Marquette, one year at Manhattan and one year at West Virginia, where he didn't play. That reads like Larry Brown's résumé.

Gonzaga, Oregon, Cal and others are also interested, but he's visiting here on July 28-30.

Welcome, Mr. Perez! Thank you for considering our school. May your visit be fruitful, rewarding, and consistent with your future goals, hopes, and plans.

And, while we hope for good players like you for our team, more than that we need much better fans. Many folks here will trash a young person before they ever set foot on campus. Those same people whine, drone, drool, and wonder what's wrong with our basketball program. They need only go and look in the mirror, where they probably already spend too much time, except for the wrong reasons.

i lived in Bettendorf, Iowa about 10 years ago and the fam visited the shop in LeClare. This was before they opened the place in Tennessee.

My kids were elementary school ages and Mike was working in the store that day, the store is really small and about 25% of the first floor was merch. He had a lot of really cool stuff on display and for sale, that’s for certain.

Anyway, Mike was super friendly, especially with the young ones, and gave them all a photo and he signed one for each if the three kids and let us snap a selfie or two. I don’t remember him asking if we were looking for anything, he knew we were just fans of the show. We all bought t-shirts and hats lol.

Danielle had a lingerie store around the corner that was pretty interesting.

This is good news as we're currently in a dead contact period and July 28th is the first day that prospects can officially visit.

This is an intriguing opportunity.  You can look at his history in a couple of ways.  There are potential benefits to bringing in a guy who has had to "fit in" several times before.  The wisdom of experience and hard-earned scar tissue is tough to measure.  It feels like Jose could fill a number of roles and add critical depth (and height!) to the backcourt.  It's a good sign we are the first visit after the dead period.

If we get him, we’ll go from being one of the youngest teams last year to one of the oldest this coming year.  SO PG and C surrounded by a bunch of 4th and 5th year players. While less talented, I’ll bet anyone $1 they contribute more to the team overall than Moussa, Houstan, Jett, etc.

Hopefully he is a good fit with the team and the visit goes well.

Despite the negativity on this board about the basketball program, he could be a really good piece of the puzzle for Juwan and this team.

I'm really interested to see how Juwan does with this team. The ego's to manage are gone. There's enough talent across the roster to compete. It will require a full team effort, and I think they have the personalities and work ethic to do it. Could be fun...potentially a disaster, but probably a very different feel from the past couple years.

Over the past few seasons...Jett was only one of the egos which needed significant managing.

Would you like to go into more detail about the "new culture of the basketball program"? Talk about a reach...or maybe you didn't enjoy the 2020-21 season when Michigan went 23-5,won the B1G regular season at 14-3 and advanced to the Elite 8.

So Hunter didn’t have an ego to be managed?

And once again they had upperclassman leadership especially in Livers who played a shit ton of games as did Brown and Smith. Those type of guys can keep young guys ego’s down very quickly. Non of that has been replaced since then. For crying out loud Jace is a captain! Laughable

West Virginia really pushed for him to be allowed to play last season but the NCAA said no. Their insiders said he was looking like the 4th or 5th best player on the team in practice and better than his low shooting numbers would indicate. If he was a potential starter for a bubble team last year he can probably help Michigan in some capacity next season.

Would help with depth I suppose, but hard to see this moving the needle at all for the Hoops program, which I see as likely not a tournament team barring a massive breakout from YoYo and/or Burnett.

Jose is good at getting contested shots up-   if we had him last year we probably win 5 more games because he's someone who can get a shot off against good defense.

His passing looks pretty good.  I like his game
