Portal Prospect Jose Perez Visiting July 28-30
He's a 6-5 guard who averaged 18.9 PPG during his last full season, at Manhattan. Michigan would be his FIFTH school. He spent two years at Gardner-Webb, one year at Marquette, one year at Manhattan and one year at West Virginia, where he didn't play. That reads like Larry Brown's résumé.
Gonzaga, Oregon, Cal and others are also interested, but he's visiting here on July 28-30.
19 pts per game isn't bad, we need shooters/scorers. Maybe he would be a good fit.
the ppg and his advanced metrics tell different stories. and he's had other issues too. but.. beggars can't be choosers.
“I wanted the cover of Fame but not the cover of Newsweek.
oh well, guess beggars can’t be choosy.”
Welcome, Mr. Perez! Thank you for considering our school. May your visit be fruitful, rewarding, and consistent with your future goals, hopes, and plans.
And, while we hope for good players like you for our team, more than that we need much better fans. Many folks here will trash a young person before they ever set foot on campus. Those same people whine, drone, drool, and wonder what's wrong with our basketball program. They need only go and look in the mirror, where they probably already spend too much time, except for the wrong reasons.
Are people shitting on him or our desperate program that is cascading downhill. Also, it's okay to assess the player's skillset. If he signs up, then everyone roots for him. Lighten up Francis
Take a break from shitting on the basketball program. I know you demand excellence, but it is getting old. It really does not come down to how much you whine.
Sometimes lately our basketball recruiting feels like one long episode of American Pickers.
I disagree. Those guys usually knew exactly how to turn raw value into results.
Howard....not so much.
EDIT: I deserve the downvotes lol.
more like a garage sale.
one man’s trash is another man’s slightly interesting trash

Because we make most of our money selling hats and shirts? If you've ever visited one of their stores, nobody buys the antiques, just merch.
i lived in Bettendorf, Iowa about 10 years ago and the fam visited the shop in LeClare. This was before they opened the place in Tennessee.
My kids were elementary school ages and Mike was working in the store that day, the store is really small and about 25% of the first floor was merch. He had a lot of really cool stuff on display and for sale, that’s for certain.
Anyway, Mike was super friendly, especially with the young ones, and gave them all a photo and he signed one for each if the three kids and let us snap a selfie or two. I don’t remember him asking if we were looking for anything, he knew we were just fans of the show. We all bought t-shirts and hats lol.
Danielle had a lingerie store around the corner that was pretty interesting.
I really enjoyed the way they made Mike & Frank look like they were inseparable life-long friends. Like the things they were hunting, were not nearly as important as their relationship. After all, that is what really matters. How it's portrayed.
This is good news as we're currently in a dead contact period and July 28th is the first day that prospects can officially visit.
i have decided to put the basketball part of my brain to sleep until after the ohio state game. nobody hit the space bar. you're all welcome to join me in hibernasketball...basketbernation...whatever.
Don't basketbernate too much. You'll shoot your eye out.
at this rate, he should just see how we look and join in Feb in case we make the NIT.
/snark
Best case scenerio: he plays during the Big Ten Tournament, then sits out the NIT so as not to risk injury and hurt his draft stock--yes, regardless of whether he's appearing in mock drafts.
Sorry but
Vamos!
Azul!
This is an intriguing opportunity. You can look at his history in a couple of ways. There are potential benefits to bringing in a guy who has had to "fit in" several times before. The wisdom of experience and hard-earned scar tissue is tough to measure. It feels like Jose could fill a number of roles and add critical depth (and height!) to the backcourt. It's a good sign we are the first visit after the dead period.
If we get him, we’ll go from being one of the youngest teams last year to one of the oldest this coming year. SO PG and C surrounded by a bunch of 4th and 5th year players. While less talented, I’ll bet anyone $1 they contribute more to the team overall than Moussa, Houstan, Jett, etc.
Remember the good old days when people would back up their statements by promising to eat a lemon if they were wrong? Now days, all these kids want to do is bet $1.
The WD Challenge.
Totally agree....that is the problem with recruiting one and dones.
I have to believe that that’s a record that will never be broken - Michigan being a player’s fifth school.
Juwan's roster building choices have been nonsensical with frightening frequency of late.
How many of his better choices not been admitted tho?
At this point the non admittance is on Juwan. You can’t wasting time with players who end up not getting in. He has to figure that out and so far he is failing in that aspect
As of late? It's been an issue his whole coaching tenure as soon as the Beilein guys started graduating
Fifth school…….everywhere he went the coach got fired
Great! I'm ready for that to happen!
We need to get this guy then
Hopefully he is a good fit with the team and the visit goes well.
Despite the negativity on this board about the basketball program, he could be a really good piece of the puzzle for Juwan and this team.
I'm really interested to see how Juwan does with this team. The ego's to manage are gone. There's enough talent across the roster to compete. It will require a full team effort, and I think they have the personalities and work ethic to do it. Could be fun...potentially a disaster, but probably a very different feel from the past couple years.
The egos. C'mon. You're reaching. You mean jett? Jett is why we've been on a slope downwards? If anything the new culture of the basketball program produced the selfish and lazy style that was never here 6-8 years ago
When you don’t sit kids(especially own kid) for the same repeated mistakes issues will arise.
Next up if his other son is getting decent minutes this coming year it will cause same issues. Kids smell that load of shit quickly.
Over the past few seasons...Jett was only one of the egos which needed significant managing.
Would you like to go into more detail about the "new culture of the basketball program"? Talk about a reach...or maybe you didn't enjoy the 2020-21 season when Michigan went 23-5,won the B1G regular season at 14-3 and advanced to the Elite 8.
So Hunter didn’t have an ego to be managed?
And once again they had upperclassman leadership especially in Livers who played a shit ton of games as did Brown and Smith. Those type of guys can keep young guys ego’s down very quickly. Non of that has been replaced since then. For crying out loud Jace is a captain! Laughable
Wasn't West Virginia offering this guy major bag to stay? Feel like that's a promising sign, right?
West Virginia really pushed for him to be allowed to play last season but the NCAA said no. Their insiders said he was looking like the 4th or 5th best player on the team in practice and better than his low shooting numbers would indicate. If he was a potential starter for a bubble team last year he can probably help Michigan in some capacity next season.
Would help with depth I suppose, but hard to see this moving the needle at all for the Hoops program, which I see as likely not a tournament team barring a massive breakout from YoYo and/or Burnett.
Too bad he'll miss the art fair by one weekend.

Jose is good at getting contested shots up- if we had him last year we probably win 5 more games because he's someone who can get a shot off against good defense.
His passing looks pretty good. I like his game
