Penn State Roll Call & Parking/Drinking Thread

Submitted by 2Blue4You on November 8th, 2023 at 11:23 AM

Maybe this is OT during the week, but who's going?  Planning on heading most of the way Friday and staying about an hour outside of State College.  Noon kick, so we will try to get in early and parked.  Any advice for cheap, walkable parking?  We don't plan on tailgating at our car, rather meet up with friends at tailgate spots TBD.  We do hope to enjoy our W in State College post game and check out campus/downtown and grab food and drinks.

I recall the bad traffic on the way in about 10 years ago, but thanks to Gibbons missing like 10 field goals traffic was a breeze on the way out w/ all the whiteout folks celebrating their OT win.  I want to avoid traffic by staying around to celebrate our win.  Go Blue!

Never in my life have I wanted to stomp this team more than this year.  Shoving this signals bullshit right up Franklin's ass and in their fan's faces would be incredible.

Good luck to anyone who's going to the game.  I'm sure the shit you will hear up until kickoff will be merciless.

Uh, Penn State has been remarkably chill about this stuff. Reading their message boards, Franklin's comments and local media, they seem to be unmoved much. Unlike the hysteria of the others. From what I see anyway. Don't forget, they've felt the wrath.  I've always enjoyed going to games there. Have fun.

GO BLUE!!

Well to be fair the schedule has been easy (and not entirely UM's fault) though I think the team has performed quite well even pricing that in.

I look at Franklin as annoying in the old school sense of the word, as opposed to the onset of more recent coaches who I have come to loathe (Dantaonio and Meyer to name a few).

Who else here is happy for Brian with all the traffic on the site the last two weeks, the man finally gets paid his worth! The last time I remember this much traffic was the flight tracker/Harbaugh saga...maybe this even beats that, although we did have swim lanes back then...

Have heard you can park in lot 36 by just buying a spot on gameday. Has anyone else done this before? That's my plan - get there around 8:30am probably and tailgate around the car/just walk around and hopefully find some Michigan comrades in the area

I've heard that as well.

For reasons related to traffic (and tourism), I would take time after the game to walk around as PSU has some very nice parts of campus and an excellent ice cream shop as well. That will allow some of the traffic to get out of dodge.

We went to the ice cream shop when we went to the night game 4 years ago.  It was the hot spot on campus.  The line was 45 minutes - hour long but time well spent.  It's a pretty campus and the town is nice - essentially a long street that runs along the east side of campus.

Having been there a couple of times, I can offer this advice:

Do not come into town on PA 99 (the exit off of i-80).  you think you've seen football traffic before, 99 is a new kind of experience

We always came in from the West (504, 322 or 350 through or around Phillipsburg).  Stay on the back roads as long as possible.

Getting to State College has never been too bad for me...it's the getting out. I've been to 10 Big Ten stadiums and I've never encountered anything like trying to get out of the giant parking lot fields around Beaver Stadium. It is a miserable experience, doubly so after a loss, and triple-y so after an absolutely crushing loss (2013).

I have never been to a game at State college, but that sounds too high-leverage for me.  Parking lot/sitting and waiting in a car is probably number 2 on my list of places I never want to be (1 being prison).  Having to deal with that in a bad emotional state after a loss might make spontaneously combust.

As we sat in absolute gridlock following the moronic 2013 game, I bellowed to no one in particular that I would never again return to Happy Valley, having now seen three losses (2008, 2010, and 2013).

Fast forward to 2017 and I somewhat reluctantly agreed to go again, thinking it might be a close game that Michigan could pull out.

So yeah, I think I'm officially done done with traveling to Penn State.

Parking is a little rough at the stadium. Your best bet, like you said, is arriving early and then trying to find a spot in one of the parking decks downtown is probably the move since you’re not tailgating out of your car and plan to return to town postgame. Not a bad walk, little uphill. Obviously the catch is it’s first come availability so the earlier the better. I’ve had good luck with the HUB deck for past Michigan games, it’s basically in the middle of campus. I’ll be going with a group of 3 and that’s our plan, get in by 7, get breakfast then start wandering around tailgating.

So this a huge one for me, cool story bro!

Lifetime diehard M fan. Oldest daughter is a junior at Michigan.

Middle daughter wanted to blaze her own trail and is now a freshmen at PSU.

Entire rest of family is M fans (raised them right).  So my dad is picking up M daughter then driving over while I’m flying up with my son (will be wearing a JJ white jersey) and coming with my sister who is M fan but feels bad for middle daughter. Wife opted out.

I’ll be wearing a black PSU sweatshirt to show some love for daughter but also wearing Harbaugh block M hat - I’m sure I will get some confused looks,  if you see me say hi!

I’ll be rooting for M of course, can’t wait, dream day!!!

I’m coming in from DC and overnighting in Carlisle.  Anyone up for a drink at 1794 Whiskey Rebellion first round’s on me.  I’d love to join a tailgate if y’all have suggestions.

In 2021, we parked about a mile away on the street (free). We were greeted by friendly PSU fans and they walked with us into the stadium, so we received a mini tour. We didn't have much trouble getting out of there from that spot to.

When we went in 2019 we parked around there.  A couple blocks to the south - closer to downtown.  We got there several hours before kickoff so I don't know what the availability will be.  We came from the south on a back road so we did not have traffic going in but it took us forever to get out leaving towards Harrisburg.

I’ll be there can’t wait for Jim and the guys to leave no doubt. While they’re at it hopefully silencing my entire family who thinks we are only good because of signgate. This is an opportunity within an opportunity. GO BLUE!

This is my first time going so any suggestions would be appreciated as well!

We’re parking in lot 45, zone S. Look out for a blue tent connected to a red gmc terrain if you wanna come and have a couple drinks, bringing the bourbon to warm up haha. Hoping for a bludgeoning to start this war path through OSU!
