OT: worst actor or actress to ruin a role or movie.

Submitted by NFG on
Holy Hell. To piggy back the best movie fight scene topic, I ask you, what actor or actress single handily ruined a movie for you? I rented Batman vs. Superman tonight and the character played by Jesse Eisenberg is damn near the biggest insult to a casting role I've ever witnessed. It could be the 30 year old scotch I had, but I am pretty sure he ruined the movie and I never want to see his post dodgeball game face again.

You do realize that I wrote about the MI intellectual property and never mentioned the show, right?

MI wasn't a standard adventure romp with a central hero like the movies; it was more like a heist movie, only with more interesting and diverse targets.  It didn't rely on the tired tactic of having an IMF traitor in every story; it used a lot more originality and acting ability.

I rarely post (maybe 6 times since I've been a member) but I had to post just to mention the actor who was holding the camera narrating throughout Cloverfield. I literally muted the movie many times because his voice was so annoying.

Jennifer Lawrence in every hunger games movie. Fun books to read and she just shows zero interest in it. Laughable performances and I can never understand how anyone thought she did well. I feel like Elaine after she saw the English patient discussing this with my family and friends that don't agree

I usually don't care if they take liberties with casting (for instance, I don't mind Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher), but the character is not at all how they describe her in the book, which is the first flaw. Then, J-Law's performance always seemed forced and it seemed like she could never capture the emotion of the character.

James Franco in 117 hours. I was fascinated by the story and had read Aron Ralston's book which is awesome, btw. I was excited to see the movie but it left you with a totally different feeling for the type of guy he is.

and I don't think we'll have to worry about him too much is Ben Stiller. My God, his old man, Jerry, probably has anothe sitcom left in him.

but I'll go one step further and say whoever's decision it was to replace Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan ruined a potentially epic franchise. Baldwin personified Jack Ryan, as far as the books were concerned.

This thread made me think of how author John Irving hated Robin Wiliams as T.S. Garp in George Roy Hill's adaptation of The World According to Garp, then changed his mind (not very long afterwards) and said he was quite good.

Ebert changed his mind on several movies he disliked at first, also, including Unforgiven and Blade Runner...

Williams as Garp was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the topic, but then I thought he really made the movie.    I don't think Garp would have translated to a successful movie without WIlliams.  Lithgow and the rest wouldn't have played as well without Williams. (I haven't seen the movie or read the book in 25-30 years.)

Disagree. True Detective season 1 was the best TV series of all time. Mud, Dallas Buyers Club, and Killer Joe were great. His roles in Frailty, Tropic Thunder, Lincoln Lawyer, and Wolf of Wall Street were all enjoyable.
