OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/28 - Holding Steady

Submitted by BlueSCar on

We again had another solid night and continue to basically take whatever we want.  Things look to get tougher from here on out as Nebraska is at our doorstep and Florida failed to strike a fatal blow to Chaos and now find themselves in dire straits.

We have also reclaimed undisputed position at the top of the leaderboard.

CAVEAT:  Pretty much all data on the leaderboard is meaningless for one reason or the other, so take the "standings" and star/player totals with a giant grain of salt.

Announcements:

The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas.  If you aren't using the website to get orders, then please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.

If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

Has anyone told Florida to make a run for it? They have enough starz that if they concentrate on a single destination say Alaska they should be able to get there. Run from chaos and pick up territories.

Red is letting Wisconsin and Ohio State set up safe spots on the west coast so they all can focus on attacking the east with no real need to defend. We need to threaten their safe zones. Ideally we can wipe out Wisconsin on our side while we head west.

Feel like we need to drive South and set a perimeter around our allies. Let them clean up the interior and then push out

Sorry I'm not active in this game, and I don't read each and every comment, so this might be a duplicate, but wtf is up with Stanford?  As a bystander who has been watching each and every day, how can a team with 91 users and 181 stars hold 13 territories and maintain that general level each day?  Is there some Stanford Alumn Silicon Valley bias going on here, or are they just really efficient/lucky?

Do we really need these every day?

A couple daily updates at the beginning, or more continued but infrequent updates I could understand, since it’s OT season but dude, come on. Anyone that’s interested in this can follow along on Reddit.

Take it up with the mods. LSA gave us his blessing in a previous thread and these continue to be some of the most popular posts in OT season. Until that blessing is rescinded and while the majority of users are in favor, we'll keep posting them. In the meantime, you are free to save yourself a mouse-click, as much effort as that may entail.

Looking forward to contributing to the downfall of the buckeyes. Hopefully it starts now and carries forward to a November afternoon in Columbus. ID Spydey14.

Question from an observer: doesn't this game end with Chaos winning?  Assuming users stay engaged in the game after their school is eliminated, won't Chaos run rampant over the game as their user numbers grow if they are not eliminated soon?

I would think it would make more sense to ally with Nebraska, Florida & Texas, consolidate respective positions in the West, South, Texas & Midwest, and eliminate Chaos as soon as possible. Battling Nebraska right now seems kind of futile. Just a thought from a random observer.
