OT: The Official Detroit Lions and NFL Open Thread
The Lions are in Miami to face Chad Henne and the Dolphins. Considering the way the Lions defense has been playing for the past few weeks, the Lions have a chance to pull off an another upset. The Lions could concieveably finish the season with a 4 game winning streak which would set up nicely for the run to the playoff berth next season.
I'm not sure who's going to start at QB for the Lions, Shaun Hill or Drew Stanton. Both are injured so we will probably see both on the field at some point today.

well they did win by 7, so I got that.
December 26th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
did you?
December 26th, 2010 at 11:25 AM ^
With none of their first three string quarterbacks at full health, the Lions will need big plays from the running game, and likely a little help from Logan / special teams and Suh / defense.
Not saying by any means that it can't be done. I really hope Stafford can stay healthy next year and beyond - there's a good young core of players there with long-term potential for sure.
December 26th, 2010 at 11:27 AM ^
this year to safely bet the under on this one. Might be a 10-7 game.
December 26th, 2010 at 11:28 AM ^
You mean Jake Long and the Dolphins, right?
Also, fuck the Broncos.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:37 PM ^
I gave the points, because I think the Broncos are awful, but if any team could get Tebowed this year, it'd be Houston.
December 26th, 2010 at 3:02 PM ^
I don't think any bet involving the Texans is a safe bet. I feel like they should win this game. Good weather should also lead to better play. Had the weather been crappy, I'd taken the Broncos.
Texans should have enough ammo to play without Andre. I guess, if there's anything that worries me, it's no Arian Foster. He's probable, but who knows what that means.

The NFL is discussing postponing the Eagles/Vikings game tonight beacuse of the snowstorm that is going to hit Philly today. 6-10 inches of snow and wind might postpone a NFL game...what a pussified move if the NFL does that. What are they going to do if this was going to happen to their precious NYC SuperBowl in a couple years?
December 26th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
Dumb because this is a mans game and I love the idea of playing in deep snow or crazy conditions. Terrible because I thought I was being smart by playing Webb at my WR position in FFB and if Favre starts switching him out right before kickoff switching him out for a Monday WR, however if they delay the game this throws this idea out the window completely.
December 26th, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
Quit babying Favre! LET THEM PLAY. LET THEM PLAY!

At this rate, you may be playing QB for the lions in week 17.
December 26th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
haa id probly do better than stanton
December 26th, 2010 at 1:03 PM ^
I know! It's not like he's won 2 games this year on a 4 win team and got the Lions their first road win in over 3 years. You're a god damn idiot.

December 26th, 2010 at 11:47 AM ^
I like the Lions today +3.5 and love their chances next year
As for today, Suh might break Henne in pieces
December 26th, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
Do they stick with him next year? I think there is a lot of problems with the Dolphins but I am sure down in Miami there is a lot of blame on Henne. I think they give him one more year and if they dont improve then he may end up a long term back up, while Sanchez (who blows btw) gets the chance to stay for a while for the Jets. GO LIONS!!!! Keep Improving.

Can't start a thread...so did anyone here Adam Schefter just say from everything he is hearing that Jim Harbaugh will be in Ann Arbor next year? Schefter is obviously a guy who is well connected so it is hard to simply ignore what he says.
December 26th, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
He did. Just saw his report with Mortensen and he did say that everything he is hearing has JH going to Ann Arbor....who knows??
December 26th, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
mentioned A2 as ONE of the possibilities for Harbaugh, including NFL. Made me turn off the sound.
December 26th, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
Saying the Lions are "poised for a playoff berth next year" is just asking to be let down. Now excuse me while I perform a pagan ritual to prevent your comment from fueling the Demonic Curse of Bobby Layne, which has already prevented the Lions from winning a championship for 50 years and counting. I was going to save my lamb for a New Year's Eve party, but now it has to get sacrificed.

and postponed the Phil-Minn game. It's disgraceful . . . and the fact that I'm playing against Vick and Djax in the FF finals has in no way clouded my opinion!
December 26th, 2010 at 1:56 PM ^
but about the fans I'm sure. Getting 60-70 thousand people from all over and outside of the city into the stadium in weather like that would be a logistical hell. As much as it sucks they're not playing in the snow, it just wouldn't be safe for the fans and the rest of the city who is trying to get around.
(Remember as well it IS the Christmas season, and people are visiting from out of town, etc)
December 26th, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
I love having EPL to take up my entire morning leading up to the NFL. I think I'd go crazy watching every single NFL pregame show fawning over quotes about Harbaugh.
Goal Spurs!
December 26th, 2010 at 1:09 PM ^
The NFL has indeed postponed the Eages/Vikings game. I like this because I have three Eagles on my team (Vick, Maclin, and Akers).
WOOOOOO SNOW THANK YOU!!!

3 days of pro football to go with the Bowl games. (And the Little Caesar Bowl ratings just went up, as the Champ Sports and Insight took a hit).
December 26th, 2010 at 1:12 PM ^
Why is Hill playing with an injured hand?
December 26th, 2010 at 1:28 PM ^
As of today they said on the radio that Stanton was having trouble lifting his arm over his head.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:44 PM ^
Pettigrew is turning into a very very good tight end. Me likey.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:49 PM ^
up 10 -3. Man these guys need an offensive line and the lions easily break 8-9 wins next year.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:52 PM ^
it when the lions score and there is no replay. It's oh yeah that team in Detroit the lions I think that's their name scored. Back to the real NFL teams Brad.

After looking great for a drive, we come out and look wretched on a 3 and out.
And this secondary would make Henne look like a god after he's been inconsistent all season. Geez.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:21 PM ^
December 26th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
The defense is playing crappy.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
What is the point of having instant replay, if they're not going to get it right? I thought Bess' foot was OOB. It seemed like it was pretty clear on the instant replays as well.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
I agree, but I do not believe that the replay officials have all of the angles we get to see. I still say it looked obvious he was out of bounds before catching the ball.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
what angles to they get then? I feel like the NFL officials should have access to all the same angles the fans get to see plus some.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
I don't know which views they do get, but it has been mentioned several times during games by announcers that they do not see all the angles that TV does. I agree they should get all the angles.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
He was not the first to touch the ball. It was a legal catch.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
That is true, but I believe that you must "reestablish" back in bounds prior to catching the ball, and I am not sure just having one foot down prior to catching would satisfy that.
December 26th, 2010 at 2:42 PM ^
Fantastic HIt!!!! Palmer hitting Follett style!
