OT: NBA Trade Deadline is today. Any interesting trades you want to see? I’m disappointed in my pistons ruining their trade assets (and draft positioning)

NBA trade deadline today. I know trade deadlines don’t mean much anymore, because players get bought out, signed by other clubs, etc. But I have this terrible feeling the Pistons lost out on trading Drummond and Rose. They overplayed Rose and showed his injury tendency. And maybe they overvalued Drummond. I hate this purgatory they are stuck in. If they had traded them way, maybe they could lose some of these close games so we don’t end up with a late lottery pick again. Or worse, a first round loss to Milwaukee.

I'd like to see the NBA trade some money to China for the freedom of the kids working in their sweatshops to stitch their jerseys and shoes. Any chance that could happen? #staywoke

Despite the rapid growth of the Chinese economy in the last decade, more than 482 million people in China – 36% of the population – live on less than $2 a day. In total 85% of China’s poor live in rural areas and extreme poverty forces many of them to leave the countryside in search of employment in urban areas.

Often referred to as the factory of the world, China’s industry-oriented economy relies on these migrant workers who make up the majority of the workforce. There are approximately 150 million internal migrant workers in China who, because of their status, do not receive any state benefits or protection.

They have to endure poor working conditions such as excessive and forced overtime, denial of social security rights and failure to provide employment contracts, as well as severe health risks.

Last time someone tried to "stay woke" in the NBA, he got vilified for it and all hell broke loose... including attacks from people such as BronBron.

Just sayin'.

Nice sentiment though.

It's just nobody really gives a shit where billion$$$ are involved...

  • how many people are going to stop watching games?
  • How many WDs (for example) out there are going to stop decorating themselves with swooshes? (yes, I try to buy American where I can but most of our textile industry has migrated offshore in the last 50 years)

I don't see why a contending team would want to add a player like Drummond.  Maybe for a limited role off the bench but we aren't going to get much for him.  How big of a contract is he expecting to get in free agency?

I can’t do that. I could put on a jersey and a hat of a non-Detroit or non-Michigan team, start following them and watching their games regularly, but it wouldn’t mean anything to me. I know this because I’ve done it with my wife’s teams. I want them to win for her sake, but I feel nothing when they win or lose. I truly want to care, too. It’s the sports equivalent of family, I was raised a fan of these teams like I was raised with my sister. It just is, both when I’m happy or depressed for it. I found out in adulthood a relative I admire was a captain on Ohio State’s 1957 national championship team. Had my dad been raised with this knowledge, I’d probably be a Buckeye, and have been a more fulfilled college football fan this century, but how could I ever fucking do that now? Never. I’ll suffer through the lows in hopes for those precious highs and everything in between. It just is.

You didn’t win shit. And acting like “great that WE won a SB” is fake as fuck and bullshit because you’d be wearing a 49ers hat if they had not blown it.

With your whole “Just root for the winner” act, you come across like you care way too much about looking like a winner.  But in reality you look like a putz. You get way to much self worth from sports teams winning. Its sad.

nah.  he has made multiple posts about, even an entire thread, about waiting to see what teams wins, then buying that teams gear to wear around, and that he’s a fan of whatever team wins.  Literally becomes a fan after the title game.

he’s a fan of how he looks wearing a winning teams gear and nothing else

He is a Chiefs, Clemson and LSU fan currently.  We won’t know who he is a fan of next year until after the national title game and Super Bowl.

Currently, he’s a huge Baylor basketball fan too but that’ll change.

Probably is a “die hard” Nationals fan, but not until he threw out his Astros hat after game 7

I don't know how you come to this conclusion about the Pistons. If you are truly a fan and watch the team, why would anyone trade for Drummond? He is an overpaid one dimensional player with no outside shot. I think you overvalue Drummond. Don't you think the rest of the league see's same thing in Drummond that we do? Derrick Rose is playing 28 mins a game, how is that overplaying the guy? He is under contract for another year, and if they can't get a 1st round pick for him, why trade him?

Don’t question my fandom!!!!

but for real, in my simple mind, if Drummond or Rose (or even Kennard) have any value, they should be traded. We will lose Drummond at the end of the year (more than likely) and Rose  was a small contract that we can generate into a possible young player (through a draft pick) that may contribute in the future, when we would have any benefit from winning. Winning now will get us no where. Stuck in the middle for a long time. These will not be pieces of a future Pistons team that contends. So why waste time with them now? To see us win 20-40 games a year and continue to delay a rebuild?

You are missing the main point, no one wants Drummond. He sucks and makes wayyyyyy to much money to absorb that ridiculous contract.

Andre Drummond signed a 5 year / $127,171,313 contract with the Detroit Pistons, including $127,171,313 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $25,434,263. In 2019-20, Drummond will earn a base salary of $27,093,019, while carrying a cap hit of $27,093,019 and a dead cap value of $27,093,019.

He can opt in next year and whoever has him has to increase his base salary  by 25% for 2 more years.

Sixers united Trey and GR3 again.

Upgraded the bench a bit with GR3 and Burks. Managed to keep JRich which is nice. I wish we could offload Al Horford (and fire Brett Brown and Elton Brand)

The Pistons are a tire fire, and how anyone can continue to support the team while it is owned and operated by Tom Gores will forever escape my understanding. To be clear, I have nothing against any of the players, I just see and hear all of the fake hype generated by the Pistons ("The Push For The Playoffs!" campaign last year, for instance) and get disgusted with how badly the organization is robbing fans (like the Lions).

I loved the Pistons as a kid, but watching or going to a game now is just a sad experience. Any win is meaningless. Last year wins only meant getting the 8th seed in the playoffs, where everyone knew Giannis was going to eat them alive. This year, like you said, wins are ruining draft position. Anyone who has not accepted that tanking is the only way for small market teams to move up in the NBA clearly has not been paying attention. Parity is achieved through higher draft positions, meaning that it is not parity on a per-season basis, but a rolling basis; the worse you are now, the better you can become later either through high draft picks or trading assets. The Pistons have been awful for 10 years, with no end in sight.

While there's nothing really there to disagree with, I think there's been at least a glimmer of hope with Sekou Doumbouya showing significant potential. Along with Svi's recent play, and even Wood to some extent, there may finally be a foothold here. They'll have to commit to it by playing the youth, tanking, getting what they can for Drummond (if anything), and getting picks/youth for players that may not fit the timeline (Rose or Morris or Luke). All signs point to this being the direction, and if that's the case, at least there is a direction.

But yeah, I'm not convinced they'll be able to move Drummond, so they'll have to be able to get something from other trades and continue to draft well (and commit to developing them).

The Pistons were screwed as soon as Gores bought the team. Dude lives in SoCal 90% of the year, and is content to give control of the team to an ever shifting group of 3-4 people, meaning there's no direction to this team.

It's why we've farted around in the lottery range for a decade, but have only ever picked as high as 8th.

They really shouldn't have played hardball with the Hawks for Drummond. Hell, at this point, I'd take anything as long as we get Drummond out of town. Because the worst possible outcome for next year is that Drummond hears rumors that he's not gonna get offered a huge $100 million deal, and opts back into his Pistons $28 million deal.

You have that all wrong. If he actually gave control of the team to a competent GM he wouldn't be in the mess they are in. He stepped in and gave Drummond that horrible contract, and he stepped in and traded for Blake Griffin and that horrible contract. Him living in SoCal has nothing to do with his mismanagement.

Get rid of Drummond for a second round pick if that's all they can manage.

Snell, Galloway, Rose, Jackson, and Morris should all be sent packing.  Not that I dislike them, but they have no worth to the Pistons in the rebuild, save Rose.

Acquire as much draft assets and young talents as you can.
